The UDH department

In this scheme, certain

Retail inflation declined
to a three-month low of

Some of the states with
the highest inflation
above the national aver-
age include Rajasthan

An estimated amount of
more than Rs 300 crores
is expected to be spent on
assembly elections in Ra-
jasthan. This marks a sig-
nificant increase com-
pared to the previous
elections when approxi-
mately Rs 250 crore was
spent. This surge in ex-
penditure, surpassing 16
percent, can be attributed
to the impact of inflation
on election management,
leading to higher elec-
tion-related costs.
In 2018-assembly
elections, the expendi-
ture was around Rs 250
crore while in the previ-
ous election, it was esti-
mated to be Rs 143.92
crore. In contrast, the
budget for the 2019 Lok

roughly Rs 260 crore,
with Rs 150.54 crore
spent during the 2014
Lok Sabha elections. In
this election, each district
collector will receive an

Amid speculation that

be fielded by the BJP in
the Rajasthan Assembly
polls, Union minister Ga-
jendra Singh Shekhawat
said he is not in the race
for the CM’s post.
Earlier, tension flared
up outside BJP office in
Ajmer as supporters of
two potential candidates
for the Ajmer north seat
Vasudev Devnani and
Subhash Kabra faced off
and raised slogans when
Gajendra Singh Shekha-

posed Devnani’s claim
for ticket, citing a lack of
development progress
over the past 20 years.
This led to a heated ex-
change, even involving
Minister Shekhawat’s
convoy being halted by
Kabra’s supporters.
Later, in a PC, Shekha-
wat criticized Congress
govt, stating that they
came to power in 2018
with false promises, but
their priorities remained
self-centered. Shekhawat
also referred to the “Lal
Diary” as a symbol of cor-
ruption by the Cong govt,
alleging that it hid the
youth’s future and mis-
handled paper leaks.
BJP WILL WIN WITH HUGE MAJORITY, SAYS ARJUN
RAM MEGHWAL WHILE CRITICIZING CM GEHLOT
Jaipur: Arjun Ram Meghwal on Thursday stated
that the BJP will secure resounding victory in State
assembly polls. “The BJP will win the Raj assembly
polls with a huge majority. This is for sure”, Meghwal said
while speaking to media. Additionally, Meghwal took the
opportunity to criticize CM Ashok Gehlot for his remarks
about the BJP and PM Modi. He asked whether his party
never fielded MPs in assembly elections. “I do not know
what he says. It is his job. But look at Congress’s history, not
that they never fielded their MPs. Every party has a different
policy for elections state-wise. And the BJP workers are
unanimous”, he added. He also held a meeting with the rep-
resentatives of different sections for preparing the manifesto.
RAJYAVARDHAN RATHORE: MODI JI IS BRINGING

Jaipur: BJP MP Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore

leadership in Rajasthan so that Rajasthan can
also participate in his ‘Amrit Kaal’ mission. In the list of 41

of Jaipur. Also reacting to
the protest in support of
former MLA Rajpal Singh Shekhawat from Jhotwara seat,
Rathore said, “BJP is the only party which gives opportunity
to everyone to move forward. Maybe today someone has
got an opportunity, tomorrow someone else will get the op-

IN-DEPTH
MOVING TOWARDS
PEACE IN MANIPUR
THE RIGHT WAY
anipur has remained quiet for some time
now. With the state government assuring an
unbiased approach towards resolving the
vexed issue between the minority Kukis and the ma-
jority Meiteis one can hope for a lasting peace in the
region. A perception was created after the bloody
clashes that the government of Manipur was playing
a partisan role in a clash between two communities.
Chief Minister N. Biren Singh told a newspaper on
Tuesday that the dispute wasn’t between two com-
munities but external forces were involved in the
clashes which were an obstacle to a peaceful resolu-
tion of the problem. The National Investigation
Agency (NIA) has been instructed by the Ministry of
Home Affairs to investigate the role of three Kuki
militant groups and one group belonging to the Zomi
tribe as these groups want to create a separate state.
Talks with these groups have been going on for
restoring normalcy in Manipur, which is the key to
lasting peace and progress.
M
CONGRESS MUST NOT
STAY QUIET ON HAMAS
ongress is facing flak for its Working Com-
mittee’s resolution on the stand-off between
Israel and Hamas. The resolution reiterated
support to the Palestinian cause but was silent on Ha-
mas which carried out Saturday’s horrific multi-
pronged attack on Israel. Hamas terrorists’ attack
should have been condemned unequivocally for its
brutality which did not spare women, children and old
people. Criticism of Hamas was omitted despite some
members of the Working Committee wanting the hor-
rific act to be “condemned”. Instead, the resolution
expressed “dismay
and anguish” over the
war and extended
support for the peo-
ple of Palestine.
The Congress took
refuge behind the ar-
gument that former
Prime Minister Atal
Bihari Vajpayee also
supported the Pales-
tinian cause but the
BJP hit back saying
that the Congress’
foreign policy was
hostage to the party’s
“minority vote bank
politics”. Salman
Kurshid, a senior
leader of Congress
and former External
Affairs Minister, did
deny the charge but it
looks certain that the
“appeasement poli-
tics” dictated the
Congress position.
Can it stop it from becoming an election issue not
only in the coming state elections but also in 2024?
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor’s argument that “it is

and that the BJP’s accusation was a “political point” is
rather weak. Nearly 2000 soldiers and civilians have

he media has
amply cov-
ered the said
situation of
people who
are still recovering from
the shutdown years of the
pandemic, but a new bea-
con of hope also emerged
that we need to be remind-
ed of. It grew from the im-
pulse to create a better life
that wasn’t simply a return
to pre-Covid life. There
were many proposals re-
volving around that theme.
I’d like to talk about one of
the most significant: How
to make your relationship
spiritual in a meaningful,
genuine way.
In our most intimate per-
sonal relationships, we
search for love and accept-
ance, although many peo-
ple find that this has been
difficult to sustain in re-
cent years. Everyone has
an unloving side; everyone
has a stubborn way of do-
ing things. We bring mixed
feelings into our interac-
tions with everyone else,
and this is simply the real-
ity. Finding love and ac-
ceptance can turn into a
very difficult challenge.
It would seem, then, that
rising a step higher and
achieving a spiritual rela-
tionship is even more chal-
lenging.Thethingsthatpeo-
ple look for in a spiritual
relationship used to be ful-
filled, not by someone else,
but by God alone. God
grants such things as race,
forgiveness, unconditional
love, pure ecstasy, redemp-
tion, and salvation. Can we
really expect anything like
thisfromthepersonwhosits
across from us at breakfast?
Yettodaymillionsofpeo-
ple are on the spiritual path,
and it is only natural that
they wish to travel it with
someone else, usually a
spouse, partner, or family
member. Letmediscuss this
aspiration and what it in-
volves.Thenarealisticjudg-
ment can be made about
how to relate spiritually to
someone who has the same
mixture of positive and neg-
ative traits that we do.
In everyday life, rela-
tionships are based on the
individual ego, the “I” with
its stream of d demands,
likes and dislikes, personal
memories and condition-
ing, etc. The ego personal-
ity is based upon self-inter-
est. It wants more pleasure
and less pain. It wants its
own way, not someone
else’s. It craves satisfac-
tion through appetite, pow-
er, status, and achieve-
ment. Seeing the “I” and
its agenda, we need to face
the fact that the ego per-
sonality is not the right ve-
hicle for achieving a spir-
itual relationship. It is a
square peg that will never
fit into a round hole.
Fortunately, there is an-
other level of relationship
that is egoless. We experi-
ence it twice in our lives,
usually, first when we are
very young children and
second when we relate to
our young children. In this
relationship,wesuspendthe
demandsofself-interest.We
experience a range of things
unknowntotheego,suchas
innocent delight, selfless
love,trust,intimacy,adesire
to cherish the other, and
pure joy in someone else’s
existence. Two beings
merge in complete accept-
ance of each other.
Can these qualities
emerge in a relationship be-
tween two adults? It would
involve voluntarily leaving
your ego at the door, which
is effectively impossible.
Therearemomentsinalov-
ing relationship where ego-
less experiences occur, of
course. Spiritual qualities
like trust, intimacy, and the
desire to cherish another
person are part of how we
relate in private with those
we love as opposed to how
we relate to the outside,
publicworld.Butinevitably
theegoentersin.“Myway”
leads to a clash with “your
way,” and somebody has to
give, which builds up ten-
sion, stress, arguments, and
resentment over time.
So the real question is
how to live without this
split between selfish and
selfless. Everyday rela-
tionships must contain an
element of the selfish; spir-
itual relationships are as
selfless as our relationship
with a young child—that’s
the ideal, at least.
The path to a spiritual
relationship depends on
one thing that may come as
a surprise.The other person
is irrelevant. Everything
depends upon you because
how you relate to yourself
determines how spiritual
you are towards others. Go
back to the pure love and
innocent delight we find
with children. Nothing is
expected of them. It is
enough that a child exists;
we place no demands on
them to give us what we
want. Therefore, no ego
agenda is involved. Now
look at yourself. Do you ac-
cept and love yourself sim-
ply because you exist?
I am not looking for a
yes or no. Everyone experi-
ences moments where be-
ing here is enough. We feel
inner peace, contentment,
and acceptance without
even thinking about it.
Where does this selfless
state arise? Oddly enough,
in deep sleep. When the
mind’s restless activity and
the ego’s ceaseless agenda
are suspended at night,
what remains is pure con-
sciousness.
You will likely be skepti-
cal about that assertion be-
cause deep sleep is without
personal experience. Yet
we wake up refreshed and
renewed, and traces of
sleep’s peace and content-
ment linger in the morning
if we had a good night’s
sleep. I bring this up to
point out that everyone has
journeyed to the selfless
state of pure consciousness
many, many times. The
question is how to reach
the same state while awake.
This is where meditation
comes in because we don’t
fall asleep in meditation. In-
stead, we relate to ourselves
without an agenda. We go
inside to meet the selfless
state, which isn’t blank or
empty. It is the meeting
point where existence is
enough and consciousness
is enough. In meditation, as
the practice matures, the
ego’sagendabecomesmore
and more pointless. If I am
enough in myself, I don’t
have to make demands on
anyone or anything else.
THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY
THE AUTHOR ARE PERSONAL
ABOUT TRUE
RELATIONS
Once you relate to yourself
without ego, it is natural
and easy to relate to
someone else in the same
way. You invite the other
person into your fullness
and fulfillment. It’s the
very opposite of needing
another person so that you
won’t be lonely, isolated,
weak, insecure, and so on.
“You complete me” is a
fantasy of the ego-person-
ality. In truth, conscious-
ness completes you, exist-
ence completes you. That’s
the vision that sustains us
on the path because after
decades of conditioning
that place “I, me, and mine”
front and center, it takes
time to undo all the training.
The middle of the journey
is filled with a mixture
of selfish and
selfless experiences.
This keeps the path alive
and active instead of static
and boring. Eventually,
however, you will prefer to
relate to yourself in a sim-
ple, uncomplicated way that
indicates your state of self-
acceptance, and this opens
the door to a true spiritual
relationship, first with your-
self, and then with anyone
who wishes to share in the
state of completeness.
HOWTOACHIEVEATRUE
SPIRITUALRELATIONSHIP
In our most intimate personal relationships,
we search for love and acceptance, although
many people find that this has been difficult
to sustain in recent years. Everyone has an
unloving side; everyone has a stubborn way of
doing things. We bring mixed feelings into our
interactions with everyone else, and this is
simply the reality. Finding love, acceptance can

The Bharatiya Janata
Party (BJP) will hold a
Central Election Com-
mittee (CEC) meeting on
Friday to discuss candi-
dates for the upcoming
Madhya Pradesh assem-
bly election.
The meeting will in-
clude senior party leaders
such as Prime Minister
Narendra Modi, BJP Na-
tional President JPNadda
and Union Home Minis-
ter Amit Shah, as well as
other election committee
members.
According to sources,
discussions about the
candidates for the Mad-
hya Pradesh assembly
elections may take place
in the meeting.
Earlier on August 17,
the BJP had released its
first list of candidates for
the Madhya Pradesh as-
sembly elections, reveal-
ing the names of 39 can-
didates. Meanwhile,
preparations for the sec-
ond list are underway,
and it is estimated that it
may include names of
50-60 candidates, party
sources said.
The earlier plan was to
release the second list by
September 5, but this
date has now been ex-
tended, sources said.
Five states will hold
state assembly elections
in December. In light of
this, the BJPis advancing
with a comprehensive
strategy.All seats in these
electoral states have been
categorised into A, B, C,
and D.
Category A includes
seats where the party has
consistently performed
well. Category B in-
cludes seats with a mixed
track record of BJPvicto-
ries and losses, while
Category C represents
seats where the party is
relatively weaker. In con-
trast, Category D seats
have seen continuous
BJP defeats in the last
three elections.

Meanwhile, BJP sources
have said that the party’s
fifth list of candidates could
be its most “explosive”. MP
Home Minister Narottam
Mishra reportedly said, “List

The ruling party on Mon-

Minister Shivraj Singh

and 57 sitting lawmakers,
all of whom were named in
the fourth list. The party has

PRIYANKA PROMISES SOPS FOR MP STUDENTS
Mandla: In order to woo the students in the
poll-bound Madhya Pradesh, Congress General
Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday said
if Congress forms government in the state stipends would
be provided on monthly basis to every student. At a Jan
Aakrosh Rally here, Priyanka said, “Under the Padho aur
Padhao Yojana; Rs 500 each will be given to every student
from the first to the eighth standard; Rs 1,000 for those in
classes IX and X while those at the higher-secondary level
will gain by Rs 1,500.” Denouncing the Professional Ex-
amination Board inconsistencies as the worst scam ever,
Priyanka said that it is still unclear as to exactly how many
people were murdered in cold blood as part of the cover up
even as no proper inquiry was conducted.

The Central Reserve

The cover has been ex-

The VIPsecurity cover

CONTRASTING TALES OF SOUTH AFRICAN AND AUSTRALIAN TEAMS
The South Africans entered this game after a comprehensive victory in
their opener against Sri Lanka. Australia, on the other hand, bowled with-
out a plan, looked equally clueless with the bat — losing wickets in clumps
— and were sloppy on the field, dropping as many as five catches. The loss will
severely dent their confidence. They were also outplayed by India in their opener
and sit second last in the 10-team table. De Kock, who will retire from the format
after the World Cup, oozed confidence while scoring his second consecutive cen-
tury with the help of eight boundaries and five maximums while Aiden Markram
smashed 56 off 44 to help the team post the highest ODI total in Lucknow.

Embrace the charm of the Sanskari look and revel in the
timeless beauty of Indian tradition. City First brings to you
hot tips to ace the traditional or Sanskari look and ensure
that all eyes are on you this festive season!
s the festive
season ap-
proaches,
there’s an
undeniable
allure to
embracing timeless tradi-
tions and culture. The San-
skari look, characterized by
its exquisite blend of tradi-
tional Indian fashion, has
never gone out of style. This
season, we’re here to help
you channel your inner diva,
showcasing the epitome of
elegance and grace. It’s time
to turn heads and leave a last-
ing impression as you em-
brace the charm of the San-
skari look. The Sanskari look
is all about celebrating the
essence of Indian culture and
heritage. It’s a beautiful
amalgamation of traditional
attire, jewellery, and a pro-
found sense of belonging to
your roots. To ace this look,
start by understanding the
importance of these elements
and how they complement
each other.
The cornerstone of the
Sanskari look is undoubtedly
your choice of attire. Tradi-
tional outfits like sarees, le-
hengas, anarkalis, and shara-
ras have an eternal appeal.
Opt for colours that resonate
with the festive spirit such as
rich reds, deep greens, and
royal blues. Quality fabric,
intricate embroidery, and
fine craftsmanship are essen-
tial to make a statement. Ac-
cessories play a pivotal role
in completing the Sanskari
look. Ornate necklaces,
chokers, jhumkas, bangles,
and intricate maang tikkas
add an aura of opulence.
Choose accessories that com-
plement your outfit and help
you radiate timeless beauty.
A well-coordinated hair
and makeup style can elevate
your Sanskari look to a whole
new level. Opt for traditional
hairstyles like braids, buns,
or cascading curls adorned
with fresh flowers or ornate
hairpins. For makeup, focus
on natural hues, accentuating
your eyes and lips while
keeping the rest of your face
radiant and glowing. Com-
plete your traditional ensem-
ble with classic Indian foot-
wear. Juttis, mojaris, and
kolhapuris are not only com-
fortable but also add a touch
of authenticity to your San-
skari look. Choose footwear
that matches your outfit’s
colour scheme and style.
Remember that the San-
skari look isn’t just about
your attire; it’s about how
you carry it. Confidence is
the most attractive accessory,
and it’s essential to wear your
traditional ensemble with
grace and poise. A warm
smile and a confident de-
meanour are your best allies
to leave a lasting impression.
So go ahead, flaunt your San-
skari look with pride and cre-
ate memories that will last a
lifetime.

N
Though I would recommend staying at
least two days to cover the island entirely,
if you are short on time, then plan a day trip
including the following popular places-
DIAMOND BEACH
Regarded as the prettiest beaches in Nusa
Penida, Diamond Beach is around an
hour's drive from the port. There are stone
stairways carved out of the cliffs
with a handrail and rope to
hold onto while going down,
leading to the glistening
white sand beach, palm
trees, and small caves, al-
most like a fairytale. The
only challenge is the
20-minute climb down
umpteen stairs, but the
view is worth it.
ROMAN POHON TREE HOUSE AND
THOUSAND ISLAND VIEWPOINT
Adjacent to the Thousand Islands View-
point is the famous Rumah Pohon Tree-
house, a uniquely located treehouse that
started as a simple rustic accommodation
and now remains a photo spot. It rests on
a small cliff, offers surreal 360° ocean
views, and takes around 20 minutes to
reach.
KELINGKING BEACH
The most popular spot on the southwest of
the island is Kelingking Beach. The giant
cliff-shaped T-Rex is very Insta-worthy,
along with limestone formations and zig-
zag coastlines. The climb to the beach is a
thrilling trek down the steep stairs for 30-
45 minutes and requires some caution.
BROKEN BEACH
Broken Beach is famous for its marvellous
standing arch view, allowing water to flow
in and out from the ocean. It is on the is-
land's west coast, close to Kelingking
Beach. The arch formed over many years
and is now a true marvel. Unfortunately,
there is no way to go down into the water.
ANGEL'S BILLABONG
Angel's Billabong is a natural infinity pool
that meets the ocean framed by large cliffs
from opposite sides. Swimming here is
sometimes possible at low tide, although
it is not exceptionally safe, as several
deaths have occurred.
CRYSTAL BAY
Nusa Penida is one of the best places to go
snorkelling in Bali, with crystal clear wa-
ters. If you are looking for a beach in Nusa
Penida that does not involve a steep de-
scent, then Crystal Bay is perfect for be-
ginner snorkelers, as the waters near the
coast are relatively shallow.
With excellent visibility of the nature
and relatively calm waters, visitors can ef-
fortlessly spot exotic fish and observe col-
ourful coral reefs, a surreal experience in
itself.
So, what are you waiting for?
Grab your shoes, camera, and your
sense of adventure, and be ready to wit-
ness paradise.

ollywood
celebrities
have al-
ways been
trendset-
ters when
it comes to acing the tradi-
tional look for festive sea-
sons, wedding extravagan-
zas, or any other special
occasion. Their ability to
effortlessly embrace the
cultural attire, from sarees
to lehengas, and exude
sheer grace and elegance
is a testament to their fash-
ion prowess. One of the
most alluring aspects of a
Bollywood diva’s tradi-
tional ensemble is often
the backless blouse or the
sleeveless design. The
manner in which they car-
ry these daring designs
showcases both confi-
dence and a keen sense of
style. The backless blouse
or a sleeveless one can el-
evate the overall look,
adding a touch of moder-
nity to traditional attire.
Accessories are pivotal in
completing their stunning
traditional avatars. Wheth-
er it’s ornate necklaces,
intricate earrings, or daz-
zling bangles, Bollywood
celebrities understand the
power of these embellish-
ments. The right accesso-
ries can transform an out-
fit, making it unforgettable
and adding a personal
touch that distinguishes
their look from the rest.

This marks a sig- nificant increase com- pared to the previous elections when approxi- mately Rs 250 crore was spent. This surge in ex- penditure, surpassing 16 percent, can be attributed to the impact of inflation on election management, leading to higher elec- tion-related costs. In 2018-assembly elections, the expendi- ture was around Rs 250 crore while in the previ- ous election, it was esti- mated to be Rs 143.92 crore. In contrast, the budget for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections was roughly Rs 260 crore, with Rs 150.54 crore spent during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. In this election, each district collector will receive an allocation of Rs 1.5 crore. Jagat Prakash Nadda @JPNadda IN-DEPTH MOVING TOWARDS PEACE IN MANIPUR THE RIGHT WAY anipur has remained quiet for some time now. With the state government assuring an unbiased approach towards resolving the vexed issue between the minority Kukis and the ma- jority Meiteis one can hope for a lasting peace in the region. A perception was created after the bloody clashes that the government of Manipur was playing a partisan role in a clash between two communities. Chief Minister N. Biren Singh told a newspaper on Tuesday that the dispute wasn’t between two com- munities but external forces were involved in the clashes which were an obstacle to a peaceful resolu- tion of the problem. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has been instructed by the Ministry of Home Affairs to investigate the role of three Kuki militant groups and one group belonging to the Zomi tribe as these groups want to create a separate state. Talks with these groups have been going on for restoring normalcy in Manipur, which is the key to lasting peace and progress. M CONGRESS MUST NOT STAY QUIET ON HAMAS ongress is facing flak for its Working Com- mittee’s resolution on the stand-off between Israel and Hamas. The resolution reiterated support to the Palestinian cause but was silent on Ha- mas which carried out Saturday’s horrific multi- pronged attack on Israel. Hamas terrorists’ attack should have been condemned unequivocally for its brutality which did not spare women, children and old people. Criticism of Hamas was omitted despite some members of the Working Committee wanting the hor- rific act to be “condemned”. Instead, the resolution expressed “dismay and anguish” over the war and extended support for the peo- ple of Palestine. The Congress took refuge behind the ar- gument that former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee also supported the Pales- tinian cause but the BJP hit back saying that the Congress’ foreign policy was hostage to the party’s “minority vote bank politics”. Salman Kurshid, a senior leader of Congress and former External Affairs Minister, did deny the charge but it looks certain that the “appeasement poli- tics” dictated the Congress position. Can it stop it from becoming an election issue not only in the coming state elections but also in 2024? Congress MP Shashi Tharoor’s argument that “it is bynomeansasortofcomprehensiveviewoftheissue,” and that the BJP’s accusation was a “political point” is rather weak. It grew from the im- pulse to create a better life that wasn’t simply a return to pre-Covid life. There were many proposals re- volving around that theme. I’d like to talk about one of the most significant: How to make your relationship spiritual in a meaningful, genuine way. In our most intimate per- sonal relationships, we search for love and accept- ance, although many peo- ple find that this has been difficult to sustain in re- cent years. Everyone has an unloving side; everyone has a stubborn way of do- ing things. We bring mixed feelings into our interac- tions with everyone else, and this is simply the real- ity. Finding love and ac- ceptance can turn into a very difficult challenge. It would seem, then, that rising a step higher and achieving a spiritual rela- tionship is even more chal- lenging.Thethingsthatpeo- ple look for in a spiritual relationship used to be ful- filled, not by someone else, but by God alone. God grants such things as race, forgiveness, unconditional love, pure ecstasy, redemp- tion, and salvation. Can we really expect anything like thisfromthepersonwhosits across from us at breakfast? Yettodaymillionsofpeo- ple are on the spiritual path, and it is only natural that they wish to travel it with someone else, usually a spouse, partner, or family member. Letmediscuss this aspiration and what it in- volves.Thenarealisticjudg- ment can be made about how to relate spiritually to someone who has the same mixture of positive and neg- ative traits that we do. In everyday life, rela- tionships are based on the individual ego, the “I” with its stream of d demands, likes and dislikes, personal memories and condition- ing, etc. The ego personal- ity is based upon self-inter- est. It wants more pleasure and less pain. It wants its own way, not someone else’s. It craves satisfac- tion through appetite, pow- er, status, and achieve- ment. Seeing the “I” and its agenda, we need to face the fact that the ego per- sonality is not the right ve- hicle for achieving a spir- itual relationship. It is a square peg that will never fit into a round hole. Fortunately, there is an- other level of relationship that is egoless. We experi- ence it twice in our lives, usually, first when we are very young children and second when we relate to our young children. In this relationship, wesuspendthe demandsofself-interest.We experience a range of things unknowntotheego, suchas innocent delight, selfless love, trust, intimacy, adesire to cherish the other, and pure joy in someone else’s existence. Two beings merge in complete accept- ance of each other. Can these qualities emerge in a relationship be- tween two adults? It would involve voluntarily leaving your ego at the door, which is effectively impossible. Therearemomentsinalov- ing relationship where ego- less experiences occur, of course. Spiritual qualities like trust, intimacy, and the desire to cherish another person are part of how we relate in private with those we love as opposed to how we relate to the outside, publicworld.Butinevitably theegoentersin.“Myway” leads to a clash with “your way,” and somebody has to give, which builds up ten- sion, stress, arguments, and resentment over time. So the real question is how to live without this split between selfish and selfless. Everyday rela- tionships must contain an element of the selfish; spir- itual relationships are as selfless as our relationship with a young child—that’s the ideal, at least. The path to a spiritual relationship depends on one thing that may come as a surprise. The other person is irrelevant. Everything depends upon you because how you relate to yourself determines how spiritual you are towards others. Go back to the pure love and innocent delight we find with children. Nothing is expected of them. It is enough that a child exists; we place no demands on them to give us what we want. Therefore, no ego agenda is involved. Now look at yourself. Do you ac- cept and love yourself sim- ply because you exist? I am not looking for a yes or no. Everyone experi- ences moments where be- ing here is enough. We feel inner peace, contentment, and acceptance without even thinking about it. Where does this selfless state arise? Oddly enough, in deep sleep. When the mind’s restless activity and the ego’s ceaseless agenda are suspended at night, what remains is pure con- sciousness. You will likely be skepti- cal about that assertion be- cause deep sleep is without personal experience. Yet we wake up refreshed and renewed, and traces of sleep’s peace and content- ment linger in the morning if we had a good night’s sleep. I bring this up to point out that everyone has journeyed to the selfless state of pure consciousness many, many times. The question is how to reach the same state while awake. This is where meditation comes in because we don’t fall asleep in meditation. In- stead, we relate to ourselves without an agenda. We go inside to meet the selfless state, which isn’t blank or empty. It is the meeting point where existence is enough and consciousness is enough. In meditation, as the practice matures, the ego’sagendabecomesmore and more pointless. If I am enough in myself, I don’t have to make demands on anyone or anything else. THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY THE AUTHOR ARE PERSONAL ABOUT TRUE RELATIONS Once you relate to yourself without ego, it is natural and easy to relate to someone else in the same way. You invite the other person into your fullness and fulfillment. It’s the very opposite of needing another person so that you won’t be lonely, isolated, weak, insecure, and so on. “You complete me” is a fantasy of the ego-person- ality. In truth, conscious- ness completes you, exist- ence completes you. That’s the vision that sustains us on the path because after decades of conditioning that place “I, me, and mine” front and center, it takes time to undo all the training. The middle of the journey is filled with a mixture of selfish and selfless experiences. This keeps the path alive and active instead of static and boring. Eventually, however, you will prefer to relate to yourself in a sim- ple, uncomplicated way that indicates your state of self- acceptance, and this opens the door to a true spiritual relationship, first with your- self, and then with anyone who wishes to share in the state of completeness. HOWTOACHIEVEATRUE SPIRITUALRELATIONSHIP In our most intimate personal relationships, we search for love and acceptance, although many people find that this has been difficult to sustain in recent years. Everyone has an unloving side; everyone has a stubborn way of doing things. We bring mixed feelings into our interactions with everyone else, and this is simply the reality. Finding love, acceptance can turn into a very difficult challenge T DEEPAK CHOPRA The writer is MD, FACP, FRCP founder of the Chopra Foundation, a non-profit entity for research on well-being and humanitarianism, and Chopra Global

NusaPenida NusaPenida The Hidden Gem of Indonesia N Though I would recommend staying at least two days to cover the island entirely, if you are short on time, then plan a day trip including the following popular places- DIAMOND BEACH Regarded as the prettiest beaches in Nusa Penida, Diamond Beach is around an hour's drive from the port. There are stone stairways carved out of the cliffs with a handrail and rope to hold onto while going down, leading to the glistening white sand beach, palm trees, and small caves, al- most like a fairytale. The only challenge is the 20-minute climb down umpteen stairs, but the view is worth it. ROMAN POHON TREE HOUSE AND THOUSAND ISLAND VIEWPOINT Adjacent to the Thousand Islands View- point is the famous Rumah Pohon Tree- house, a uniquely located treehouse that started as a simple rustic accommodation and now remains a photo spot. It rests on a small cliff, offers surreal 360° ocean views, and takes around 20 minutes to reach. KELINGKING BEACH The most popular spot on the southwest of the island is Kelingking Beach. The giant cliff-shaped T-Rex is very Insta-worthy, along with limestone formations and zig- zag coastlines. The climb to the beach is a thrilling trek down the steep stairs for 30- 45 minutes and requires some caution. BROKEN BEACH Broken Beach is famous for its marvellous standing arch view, allowing water to flow in and out from the ocean. It is on the is- land's west coast, close to Kelingking Beach. The arch formed over many years and is now a true marvel. Unfortunately, there is no way to go down into the water. ANGEL'S BILLABONG Angel's Billabong is a natural infinity pool that meets the ocean framed by large cliffs from opposite sides. Swimming here is sometimes possible at low tide, although it is not exceptionally safe, as several deaths have occurred. CRYSTAL BAY Nusa Penida is one of the best places to go snorkelling in Bali, with crystal clear wa- ters. If you are looking for a beach in Nusa Penida that does not involve a steep de- scent, then Crystal Bay is perfect for be- ginner snorkelers, as the waters near the coast are relatively shallow. With excellent visibility of the nature and relatively calm waters, visitors can ef- fortlessly spot exotic fish and observe col- ourful coral reefs, a surreal experience in itself. So, what are you waiting for? Grab your shoes, camera, and your sense of adventure, and be ready to wit- ness paradise. The Hidden Gem of Indonesia ROMAN POHON TREE HOUSE AND
