Aam Aadmi Party Ra-
jya Sabha MP Raghav
Chadha on Saturday
wrote to Defence Minis-
ter Rajnath Singh ask-
ing him to roll back the
“ill-conceived” Ag-
nipath scheme.
In a letter, Chadha
said the scheme had
“justifiably caused
great anguish among
potential recruits from
across the country”.
“The hopes and
dreams of many young
aspirants have been sti-
fled by the controversial
‘contractualization’ of
the armed forces. With-
in the past two days, we
have witnessed with
great despair insuffi-
cient attempts at last-
minute tinkering by the
Union government such
as increasing the age
limit,” he wrote.
Chadha listed five is-
sues that he said needed
highlighting.
“Firstly, we need
jawans with peace of
mind and job security.
The Union government
has failed to compre-
hend that a jawan sup-
ports not only himself
but his family. Only in-
dividuals with courage
and peace of mind can
serve in the armed forc-
es. A jawan that is busy
contemplating career
moves or wondering
how his family will sur-
vive after his tenure of
four years is over will
find it harder to serve
our country
. An ill-moti-
vated soldier is certain-
ly an avoidable proposi-
tion,” he wrote.
“Secondly
,thescheme
has overlooked issues
of inadequate skilling.
The Agnipath scheme
allows for Agniveers to
undergo a crash course
in training of six
months. An abnormally
short period of training
will have adverse conse-
quences on the quality
of service discharged.
The scheme allows for
greenhorns to face the
nation’s greatest secu-
rity challenges. Result-
antly, we will be saddled
without sufficient lead-
ership and experience
amongst the troops,”
Chadha wrote.

senior IAS officer of
Bihar was given a
dressing down by
Justice PB Bajanthri
of the Patna High
Court for being inappropriately
dressed. A video of the judge
reprimanding the bureaucrat
having gone viral there’s a fresh
debate on what is “appropriate”
dressing for a litigant. In the
case of the Bihar bureaucrat,
the officer was dressed in formal
trousers and an open-collar
shirt. The problem lay with the
open collar and absence of a
coat for which the judge took
him to task.
In 2011 issued a “mandatory
dress code for litigants” which
was rather vague. Security per-
sonnel at the Bombay High
Court were issued instructions
to “only allow litigants wearing
modest dresses in sober col-
ours”. On some occasions, Su-
preme Court judges have also
taken exception to inappropri-
ate dressing. In 2018 Justices J.
Chelameshwar and SK Kaul ob-
jected to the dress worn by an
additional chief secretary of
Rajasthan and refused to hear
his case. There are many more
such instances.

down as their leaders have
now come to terms with the
historic decision after long
periods of house arrest.
Leaders of the two parties
formed a Gupkar alliance af-
ter a meeting at Farooq Ab-
dullah’s residence at Gupkar
with the ostensible purpose
of taking part in the assem-
bly elections.
Three years after the revo-
cation of special status JK
could see the start of a prop-
er democratic process. “By
the end of this year there is a
possibility of holding assem-
bly elections in Jammu
Kashmir,” said Union De-
fence Minister Rajnath Sin-
gh. The exercise to revise
electoral rolls and prepara-
tion of the draft rolls are al-
ready underway. Draft rolls
are expected to be ready by
August 30.
Another major exercise of
delimitation of constituen-
cies has already been com-
pleted. The PDP, NC and
other parties of the Valley
are unhappy with the delimi-
tation as it has given Jammu
more seats. After the delimi-
tation process the total num-
ber of assembly seats has
increased to 90 with Kash-
mir’s share being 47 and Jam-
mu’s 43. Earlier, Valley had 46
seats and Jammu 37. More
seats for Jammu is being
seen as striking at Muslims’
political dominance.
The completion of demo-
cratic process should
strengthen peace efforts in
the region where recent tar-
getedkillingsof non-Muslims
led to an exodus of Hindus.

was AO Hume, a former ICS
officer. Until Gandhiji took
over the leadership of Con-
gress on his return from
South Africa (where he spent
21 years) till then the party
did not have a mass base.
Rahul Gandhi has spent
over 40 hours with the En-
forcement Directorate. The
Congress party has suddenly
woken up, burning tyres on
roads, dislocating traffic. One
Congress man called the
Prime Minister a dog, a for-
mer lady Member of Parlia-
ment got hold of the collar of
a policeman who was on duty
.
On the first day the slogans of
the agitators included, “We
are doing ‘Satyagraha’”.
Abuse and violence are not
part of Satyagraha. If Sonia
Gandhi was not indisposed
she, would have, in her own
diplomatic, decisive way
pulled up these unruly Con-
gress wallahs. However, unin-

To call the bedlam Satya-
graha is to do great injustice
to the man who enriched our
political vocabulary by in-
venting the word, but also
made it into a powerful non-
violent weapon which funda-
mentally changed Indian
politics. I doubt if any of the
aggressive agitators have
ever heard of Gandhiji book
“Satyagraha in South Afri-
ca”. Let me quote from it.
“None of us knew what
name to give to our move-
ment….. A small prize was
therefore announced in Indi-
an Opinion, (a paper Gandhiji
founded and edited) to be
awarded to the reader who in-
vented the best designation
for our struggle. The year was
1906. We thus received a num-
ber of suggestions…. Shri
Maganlal Gandhi (the Mahat-
ma’s cousin) was one of the
competitors and he suggested
the word “Sadagraha”, mean-
ing ‘firmness in a good cause’.
I liked the word, but it did not

I wished to connote. I there-
fore corrected it to “Satyagra-
ha”.Truth(satya)implieslove
and firmness (agraha) engen-
ders and therefore serves as a
synonym for force. I thus be-
gan to call the Indian move-
ment “Satyagraha”.
Geoffrey Ashe the Anglo-
American author, in his book
“Gandhi” published a year
before Gandhiji’s birth cente-
nary in 1968 wrote, “Satya-
graha Gandhi decided, can
only employ such weapons as
boycotts and strikes. But

them they must submit to its
blows without retaliation, or
go to prison or death without
rancour, indeed with joy and

falls on each one, as a soldier

implies self-discipline.” Con-
gress agitators please note.

without the matter being dis-

been passed to introduce the

ger? Because it was not well
thoughtthrough.Whatwasthe
hurry? There are serious dif-
ferences among some retired
senior officers of the armed
forces on the value and useful-
ness of Agnipath. I find even
the nomenclature strange.
Why not Suryapath? Youth or-
ganisations have vigorously
opposed this scheme. Some
have called it ‘hair-brained’.
The phrase is not mine.
One hope’s the widespread
violent protests will end soon.
But the 17-23 old recruits will
at the end of 4 years ask for
jobs. If not satisfied, uglier
protests could follow.

bolster its position as a
trusted source for the
world, in digital net-
works.
Speaking at ‘TV9
What India Thinks To-

Vaishnaw said that na-
tions are keen to give
preference to 4G and 5G
products and technolo-
gies being developed by
India.
To address the issue
of unsolicited calls, an
“important” regulation
is in the works, which
will enable KYC-identity
name of a caller to be
displayed, when some-
one calls, the minister
informed.
On 5G services, he
said: “I can say with con-
fidence that 5G deploy-
ment will start in at
least 20-25 cities and
towns by year end.”
Asked about the pric-
ing for 5G services,
Vaishnaw observed that
even today data rates in
India are at about USD 2,
against global average
of USD 25.
“We are already the
lowest in the world, at
least by a factor of
10X...10X we are cheaper
than the world, that
same trend will be in
other areas too,” he said.
As India prepares to
usher 5G services, it has
also developed 4G and
5G technology stacks.
Outlining India’s re-
solve to match global
strides in 4G and 5G, and
to take technology lead
in 6G, the minister said
the world has taken note
of the country’s pro-
gress, and shown seri-
ous interest in the indig-
enous technologies be-

The global rating

BJP holds workshop to chalk out
action plan for booth level support
First India Bureau
Lucknow: The UP BJP
has launched hectic
preparations for 2024
Lok Sabha election in
which it had targeted to
win at least 75 seats.
In this connection the
BJP has given responsi-
bility of 100 booths per
Lok Sabha and Rajya
Sabha members. The
saffron party has
planned to effectively
reach out to people with
central and state gov-
ernments programmes
and policies.
The MPs under the
plan would strengthen
these booths so that the
party could get desired
results in 2024. The
MPs would also be in-
teracting with benefi-
ciaries of the govern-
ment schemes and
would also ensure that
those deprived of the
benefits of these
schemes could get it.
The state BJP on Sat-
urday organised a
workshop at the party
headquarters to chalk
out action plan for
booth strengthening
and necessary guide-
lines were issued in this
connection. The Uttar
Pradesh BJP chief and
minister Swatantra Dev

Lucknow: The outcome
of Lok Sabha bypolls in
Rampur and Azamgarh
seats scheduled for
June 23 are expected
to test not only the
poll-preparedness but
also the popularity of the
ruling Bharatiya Janata
Party (BJP), which is
locked in yet another
electoral battle with its
principal challenger, the
Samajwadi Party (SP) in
Uttar Pradesh. While the
parliamentary polls are
a ‘battle of prestige’ for
the SP, which has won
both the seats in the
past, the BJP is going
full steam to breach the
SP bastion and set the
tone for 2024 Lok Sabha
polls. The BSP is in fray
in Azamgarh only. With
just five days to go to
polling, the ruling party
in a campaign blitzkrieg
has galvanised its party
cadres and more than
a dozen ministers to
ensure the victory of its
candidates. According to
party sources, 15 minis-

Sources said that from
the end of 2021 till June
5, the ILBS has tested
5000 to 6000 samples
and most of them have
tested positive for
Omicron. Samples with
CT value less than 25
can only be tested, they
said. “We have detected
BA.1 and BA.2 and its
sublineages till now
while we have not found
any new variants. It has
been reported that a new
variant has been found
in Maharashtra. The
results of some of the
samples will come next

a 12-month pilot scheme
that will involve some
illegal migrants seek-
ing asylum in the coun-
try being electronically

their movements, it
emerged on Saturday
.
British Prime Minis-
ter Boris Johnson de-
fended the plans as he
said it was essential that
people who arrived
through dangerous
routesonsmallboatsand
hidden in lorries could
not simply “vanish”.
Documents linked to
the UK Home Office
proposals suggest that
the government wants
to obtain data on how
frequently asylum seek-
ers abscond.
“This is a very, very
generous welcoming
country
. Quite right too.
I am proud of it, but
when people come here
illegally, when they
break the law, it is im-
portant that we make
that distinction,” John-
son told reporters on
his return from
Ukraine.
“That is what we are
doing with our Rwanda
policy. That is what we
are doing to make sure
that asylum seekers
can’t just vanish into
the rest of the country,”
he said.
The Rwanda policy
of flying out some mi-
grants to the east Afri-
can nation has proved
contentious, with the
first flight grounded by
last-minute injunctions
from the European
Court of Human Rights
(ECHR) earlier this
week.
UK Home Secretary
Priti Patel labelled the
ruling as “absolutely
scandalous” and
opaque.
“We don’t know who
the judges are, we don’t
know who the panel are,
we haven’t actually had
a judgment just a press
release and a letter say-
ing we can’t move this
person under rule 39,”
Patel told The Daily Tel-
egraph’.
The Migration Part-
nership with Rwanda,
announced by Patel in
April, intends to give
some migrants who
cross the English Chan-
nel to the UK a one-way
ticket to Kigali to claim
asylum there instead.
The government has
said the scheme, which
has come at an initial
cost of GBP 120 million,
would discourage peo-
ple traffickers from fa-
cilitating dangerous
crossings in unsafe
boats.

that the Indian Army is

Whole country takes
pride in the Indian Ar-

To maintain dignity
and prestige of the In-

the forces. To increase
efficiency in the Army,
it is crucial to have per-
manent soldiers instead
of short-term recruits,
so that the country can
reap the benefit of their
experience. The Army
must be equipped with
all the resources and
must be continuously
strengthened.
It was discussed in the
meeting that the Cen-

Agnipath scheme for
recruitment in the
Army. There have been
massive protests across
the country regarding
the provisions made in
this scheme. This
scheme has created
many doubts among the
youths regarding their
future. Due to this,
youths are protesting
on the roads and rail-

VARUN’S
QUESTIONS GET
NATION’S
ANSWERS
When BJP’s own
MP Varun Gan-
dhi took the initiative
to fight for the rights of
crores of unemployed
youth of the country,
few people would have
envisioned that it could
result in the fire of ‘Ag-
nipath’. A month back,
Varun raised the politi-
cal heat by tweeting,
“Posts lying vacant
without reason, leaking
papers, education ma-
fia dominating the sys-
tem, court and legal
hassles and shattering
hopes. The student is
now paying the cost of
administrative incom-
petence on his own.
How to make the Selec-
tion Service Commis-
sion better, how the ex-
aminations should be
transparent and timely,
work will have to be
done on it from today
and now. Don’t be too
late to work on it.” A
week after this tweet,
Varun posted yet an-
other tweet and said,
“When unemployment
is at a three decade
high, these figures are
shocking. While crores
of youth are frustrated
and disappointed due to
non-availability of re-
cruitments, according
to the government fig-
ures, 60 lakh sanctioned
posts are vacant in the
country. Where did the
budget that was allo-
cated for these posts
went? It is the right of
every youth to know
this.” With this Varun
had presented a de-
scription of 60 lakh
posts lying vacant in
the departments and in-
stitutions of the central
and state governments.
Varun also wrote a let-
ter to Bihar CM Nitish
Kumar regarding the
rigging of BPSC. He
also wrote a letter to
Railways Minister
Ashwini Vaishnaw re-
garding RRB and NTPC
examinations. In the
meantime, the union
government announced
providing 10 lakh jobs
and the ‘Agnipath
scheme’ also came out
of its jam. In this re-
gard, Varun wrote a let-
ter to Defence Minister
Rajnath Singh and said,
“There are many ques-
tions in the minds of
the youth of the coun-
try regarding the Ag-
nipath scheme. In order
to get the youth out of
the state of confusion,
the government should
make its stand clear by
putting forward the
policy facts related to
the scheme very soon so
that the country’s
young energy can
be used positive-
ly in the right
direction.” Ap-
pealing to the
youth for peace,
Varun has just
released a re-
cent video
and ap-
pealed to them to re-
main calm, but Varun
has surely highlighted
aspects which can re-
sult in problems for the
Centre.
CONGRESS IN
ACTION OR
‘INACTION’?
The Congress was
somewhat success-
ful in converting the
ED’s questioning of Ra-
hul Gandhi into an op-
portunity. But many
senior leaders of Con-
gress made this occa-
sion an opportunity to
carve an ‘image’ for
themselves. Pramod Ti-
wari entered the field
with a lot of noise and
uproar, faced the police,
but later left the ground
saying that his ribs
were broken by the
sticks of the police.
However, in a later foot-
age, he was seen walk-
ing well. Tariq Anwar
also reached the protest
site in the car of one of
his disciples in Hary-
ana, and though no one
knows what happened
there, but later he was
admitted to the emer-
gency of Ram Manohar
Lohiya Hospital, in the
hope that some of his
near and dear ‘leaders’
may inform Rahul
about him. Youth Con-
gress President BV
Srinivas was arrested
by the police during the
protest and put in
a car, but he
silently dis-
appeared
from there
by open-
ing the car
door. This
f o o t a g e
was ac-
cessed by some news
channels. The most
amazing thing was
done by the Congress
leaders of Bihar. Bihar
Congress working pres-
ident Madan Mohan
Jha and the party’s leg-
islature party leaders
sat on a dharna at the
Sadaqat Ashram of the
Congress in Patna it-
self and did not even
consider it appropriate
to take their agitation
on the road.
HARYANA
CONGRESS’ IN
FIGHT BENEFITS
BJP
How did Rahul’s
close aide Ajay
Maken finally get de-
feated by just
half a vote in
H a r y a n a ’ s
Rajya Sabha
elections?
Its script
was written
at the same
time when
the top
l e a d e r -
ship of
C o n -
gress handed over the
entire reins of Haryana
to Bhupinder Singh
Hooda. If sources are to
be believed, Hooda’s op-
ponents, stunned by
this, gathered at Kiran
Chaudhary’s farm
house. Word is that Kul-
deep Bishnoi, Kumari
Selja and Kiran Choud-
hary were also present
in this secret meeting.
It is said that it was de-
cided in this meeting
that Kuldeep Bishnoi
would first blow the bu-
gle of protest. This pro-
test will be indirectly
supported by Kiran
Choudhary. So, when
Kiran Choudhary’s
vote was cancelled in
this time’s Rajya Sabha
polls, senior Congress-
men clenched their
fists, because there was
no room for error in the
vote for Kiran Choud-
hary, because before
now she had success-
fully voted in six such
elections.
...AND
FINALLY
Recently,
B J P ’ s
B a r r a c k -
pore MP
and West
B e n g a l
BJP vice-
p r e s i -
d e n t
Arjun Singh left the
BJP and joined TMC.
Arjun Singh had joined
BJP in 2019 from TMC
and won the elections.
The BJP had constitut-
ed a ‘Fact Finding Com-
mittee’ to find out the
reason behind Arjun
Singh leaving the party,
and the report of this
committee is somewhat
shocking. In fact, Arjun
Singh had gone to a sen-
ior minister of the
Modi government with
a delegation of jute
traders from Bengal re-
cently
. It is said that the
minister stirred up his
MP in front of the del-
egation and said, “What
do you have to do with
this matter.” The MP
was shocked and al-
though he complained
about this to ‘two sen-
iors’, but the minister
is dear to both of them,
so when there was no
hearing, it was then
that Arjun Singh made
up his mind to go to Tri-
namool.

D
ad, you make things happen just for our
happiness, just to see our smiling faces, dad,
thank you! for all the things that you do that
we notice and especially for the things which we fail
to notice. No matter how hard we argue at times but
I always have your sayings in my heart as a treasure
to cherish forever. I will never be that big to pay you
back for what you have given to me. You are the
real hero. I LOVE YOU PAPPU!!
T
hank you dad for being the strength, behind
which we feel secure and protected. Dad, you
are our best friend with whom we can share
our secrets with utmost faith knowing that we'll get
the best advice. The laughter we share during our
silly, stupid acts is the treasure of our life.
T
hank you for all the
piggyback rides, all the
times you pretended to
be a horse, and all the times
you threw me into the air and
caught me. Your body might
be regretting it now, but it
gave me wonderful childhood
memories. Happy Father’s
Day, Dad!
N
o matter how old I get,
Dad, I’ll always be that
same little girl who loves
you with all her heart. Happy
Father’s Day! You’re more
than a father—you’re a friend.
I hope all the love you’ve
given to our family comes
back to you a hundred times
over today!
D
ad, I am sorry for some
days I make you go crazy
or annoyed with my deeds
but I assure you that I will
make you feel proud on the day
for having me, deep inside I
know my limits imbibed in your
teachings.
H
appy Father's Day to the best man
in the world! For everything you
say and do, you've touched my
heart in every way. I know, you know
that I like Spiderman and Superman is
cool too, but I don't need them as long
as I have you! Love you!
P
apa, you are a friend at times
and a guide showing us the
light in difficult situations, help-
ing us to polish ourselves and shine
with your guiding light. I copy you,
follow you and try to be you, you are
my hero.
N
ot a day goes by when I don’t
feel very, very lucky to have a
dad like you. I am so grateful for
all you have done for me. One day just
isn’t enough to tell you how much you
mean to me. Love you so much!
athers, like mothers,
play an important
role in a child’s emo-
tional development.
Fathers create a
sense of physical
and mental security.
They are kind and support-
ive, and they have a signifi-
cant impact on our cognitive
and social development. They
also instil a general sense of
happiness and self-assurance.
To make his or her father
proud is a child’s dream. For
stability and emotional sup-
port, young girls look to their
dads. A father demonstrates
tohisdaughterwhatahealthy
male-female interaction
looks like. If her father is
kind and caring, she will
search for such traits in men.
If a father is courageous and
powerful, his daughter will be
drawn to men who share his
qualities. Boys model them-
selves after their father’s
character. From an early age,
boys will want acceptance
from their dads. We learn to
operate in the world by mim-
icking the behaviour of oth-
ers around us as we grow up
as human beings. If a father
is concerned about his chil-
dren’s well-being and treats
them with respect, the young
boy will follow in his foot-
steps. There are some per-
sons who have fathers. Some
have father figures in their
lives. Amazing guys who
weren’t around when we were
born but who assist us in dis-
covering who we are sup-
posed to be. They’re similar
to the earth. A solid founda-
tion beneath our feet, rich in
character and heart, capable
of supporting mountains
while remaining gentle
enough to nurture plants.
HAPPY FATHER’S DAY to
ALL THE “DADS” OUT
THERE! WE SEE YOU AND
WE APPRECIATE YOU!

In a letter, Chadha said the scheme had “justifiably caused great anguish among potential recruits from across the country”. “The hopes and dreams of many young aspirants have been sti- fled by the controversial ‘contractualization’ of the armed forces. TOP TWEETS BE CAREFUL WITH WHAT YOU WEAR FOR APPEARANCE AS A LITIGANT senior IAS officer of Bihar was given a dressing down by Justice PB Bajanthri of the Patna High Court for being inappropriately dressed. A video of the judge reprimanding the bureaucrat having gone viral there’s a fresh debate on what is “appropriate” dressing for a litigant. In the case of the Bihar bureaucrat, the officer was dressed in formal trousers and an open-collar shirt. The problem lay with the open collar and absence of a coat for which the judge took him to task. In 2011 issued a “mandatory dress code for litigants” which was rather vague. Security per- sonnel at the Bombay High Court were issued instructions to “only allow litigants wearing modest dresses in sober col- ours”. On some occasions, Su- preme Court judges have also taken exception to inappropri- ate dressing. In 2018 Justices J. Chelameshwar and SK Kaul ob- jected to the dress worn by an additional chief secretary of Rajasthan and refused to hear his case. There are many more such instances. A ammu Kashmir has covered a lot of distance after scrapping of its privileged status under Article 370 which was abrogated by the Centre in 2019. Protests by the National Conference and the Peoples Democratic Party - The two main parties of what is now a Union Territory---have died down as their leaders have now come to terms with the historic decision after long periods of house arrest. Leaders of the two parties formed a Gupkar alliance af- ter a meeting at Farooq Ab- dullah’s residence at Gupkar with the ostensible purpose of taking part in the assem- bly elections. Three years after the revo- cation of special status JK could see the start of a prop- er democratic process. “By the end of this year there is a possibility of holding assem- bly elections in Jammu Kashmir,” said Union De- fence Minister Rajnath Sin- gh. The exercise to revise electoral rolls and prepara- tion of the draft rolls are al- ready underway. Draft rolls are expected to be ready by August 30. Another major exercise of delimitation of constituen- cies has already been com- pleted. The PDP, NC and other parties of the Valley are unhappy with the delimi- tation as it has given Jammu more seats. After the delimi- tation process the total num- ber of assembly seats has increased to 90 with Kash- mir’s share being 47 and Jam- mu’s 43. Earlier, Valley had 46 seats and Jammu 37. More seats for Jammu is being seen as striking at Muslims’ political dominance. The completion of demo- cratic process should strengthen peace efforts in the region where recent tar- getedkillingsof non-Muslims led to an exodus of Hindus. JK BEING READIED FOR ASSEMBLY POLL Protests by the National Conference and the Peoples Democratic Party - The two main parties of what is now a Union Territory - have died down as their leaders have now come to terms with the historic decision after long periods of house arrest J ‘Congress’s this ‘Satyagraha’ is not what Mahatma taught us’ he Congress party was estab- lished in 1885. The founder was AO Hume, a former ICS officer. Until Gandhiji took over the leadership of Con- gress on his return from South Africa (where he spent 21 years) till then the party did not have a mass base. Rahul Gandhi has spent over 40 hours with the En- forcement Directorate. The Congress party has suddenly woken up, burning tyres on roads, dislocating traffic. One Congress man called the Prime Minister a dog, a for- mer lady Member of Parlia- ment got hold of the collar of a policeman who was on duty . On the first day the slogans of the agitators included, “We are doing ‘Satyagraha’”. Abuse and violence are not part of Satyagraha. If Sonia Gandhi was not indisposed she, would have, in her own diplomatic, decisive way pulled up these unruly Con- gress wallahs. However, unin- tended consequences have surfaced due to the agitation the Congress agitation has given life to a moriband party . To call the bedlam Satya- graha is to do great injustice to the man who enriched our political vocabulary by in- venting the word, but also made it into a powerful non- violent weapon which funda- mentally changed Indian politics. I doubt if any of the aggressive agitators have ever heard of Gandhiji book “Satyagraha in South Afri- ca”. Let me quote from it. “None of us knew what name to give to our move- ment….. A small prize was therefore announced in Indi- an Opinion, (a paper Gandhiji founded and edited) to be awarded to the reader who in- vented the best designation for our struggle. The year was 1906. We thus received a num- ber of suggestions…. Shri Maganlal Gandhi (the Mahat- ma’s cousin) was one of the competitors and he suggested the word “Sadagraha”, mean- ing ‘firmness in a good cause’. I liked the word, but it did not trulyrepresentthewholeidea I wished to connote. I there- fore corrected it to “Satyagra- ha”.Truth(satya)implieslove and firmness (agraha) engen- ders and therefore serves as a synonym for force. I thus be- gan to call the Indian move- ment “Satyagraha”. Geoffrey Ashe the Anglo- American author, in his book “Gandhi” published a year before Gandhiji’s birth cente- nary in 1968 wrote, “Satya- graha Gandhi decided, can only employ such weapons as boycotts and strikes. But whenauthoritymovesagainst them they must submit to its blows without retaliation, or go to prison or death without rancour, indeed with joy and courtesy . Full responsibility falls on each one, as a soldier of non-violence Satyagraha implies self-discipline.” Con- gress agitators please note. PROTEST OVER AGNIPATH SCHEME The Central Government finds itself in a spot. It was not the wisest decision taken without the matter being dis- cussed in both Houses of Par- liament. A bill could have been passed to introduce the Agnipath Scheme. Whyhasthedecisionof Gov- ernment caused so much an- ger? Because it was not well thoughtthrough.Whatwasthe hurry? There are serious dif- ferences among some retired senior officers of the armed forces on the value and useful- ness of Agnipath. I find even the nomenclature strange. Why not Suryapath? Youth or- ganisations have vigorously opposed this scheme. Some have called it ‘hair-brained’. The phrase is not mine. One hope’s the widespread violent protests will end soon. But the 17-23 old recruits will at the end of 4 years ask for jobs. If not satisfied, uglier protests could follow. THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY THE AUTHOR ARE PERSONAL T The Central Government finds itself in a spot. It was not the wisest decision taken without the matter being discussed in both Houses of Parliament. British Prime Minis- ter Boris Johnson de- fended the plans as he said it was essential that people who arrived through dangerous routesonsmallboatsand hidden in lorries could not simply “vanish”. Documents linked to the UK Home Office proposals suggest that the government wants to obtain data on how frequently asylum seek- ers abscond. “This is a very, very generous welcoming country . Quite right too. I am proud of it, but when people come here illegally, when they break the law, it is im- portant that we make that distinction,” John- son told reporters on his return from Ukraine. “That is what we are doing with our Rwanda policy. That is what we are doing to make sure that asylum seekers can’t just vanish into the rest of the country,” he said. The Rwanda policy of flying out some mi- grants to the east Afri- can nation has proved contentious, with the first flight grounded by last-minute injunctions from the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) earlier this week. UK Home Secretary Priti Patel labelled the ruling as “absolutely scandalous” and opaque. “We don’t know who the judges are, we don’t know who the panel are, we haven’t actually had a judgment just a press release and a letter say- ing we can’t move this person under rule 39,” Patel told The Daily Tel- egraph’. The Migration Part- nership with Rwanda, announced by Patel in April, intends to give some migrants who cross the English Chan- nel to the UK a one-way ticket to Kigali to claim asylum there instead. The government has said the scheme, which has come at an initial cost of GBP 120 million, would discourage peo- ple traffickers from fa- cilitating dangerous crossings in unsafe boats. Ashok Gehlot VARUN’S QUESTIONS GET NATION’S ANSWERS When BJP’s own MP Varun Gan- dhi took the initiative to fight for the rights of crores of unemployed youth of the country, few people would have envisioned that it could result in the fire of ‘Ag- nipath’. A month back, Varun raised the politi- cal heat by tweeting, “Posts lying vacant without reason, leaking papers, education ma- fia dominating the sys- tem, court and legal hassles and shattering hopes. The student is now paying the cost of administrative incom- petence on his own. How to make the Selec- tion Service Commis- sion better, how the ex- aminations should be transparent and timely, work will have to be done on it from today and now. Don’t be too late to work on it.” A week after this tweet, Varun posted yet an- other tweet and said, “When unemployment is at a three decade high, these figures are shocking. While crores of youth are frustrated and disappointed due to non-availability of re- cruitments, according to the government fig- ures, 60 lakh sanctioned posts are vacant in the country. Where did the budget that was allo- cated for these posts went? It is the right of every youth to know this.” With this Varun had presented a de- scription of 60 lakh posts lying vacant in the departments and in- stitutions of the central and state governments. Varun also wrote a let- ter to Bihar CM Nitish Kumar regarding the rigging of BPSC. He also wrote a letter to Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw re- garding RRB and NTPC examinations. In the meantime, the union government announced providing 10 lakh jobs and the ‘Agnipath scheme’ also came out of its jam. In this re- gard, Varun wrote a let- ter to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and said, “There are many ques- tions in the minds of the youth of the coun- try regarding the Ag- nipath scheme. In order to get the youth out of the state of confusion, the government should make its stand clear by putting forward the policy facts related to the scheme very soon so that the country’s young energy can be used positive- ly in the right direction.” Ap- pealing to the youth for peace, Varun has just released a re- cent video and ap- pealed to them to re- main calm, but Varun has surely highlighted aspects which can re- sult in problems for the Centre. CONGRESS IN ACTION OR ‘INACTION’? The Congress was somewhat success- ful in converting the ED’s questioning of Ra- hul Gandhi into an op- portunity. But many senior leaders of Con- gress made this occa- sion an opportunity to carve an ‘image’ for themselves. Pramod Ti- wari entered the field with a lot of noise and uproar, faced the police, but later left the ground saying that his ribs were broken by the sticks of the police. However, in a later foot- age, he was seen walk- ing well. Tariq Anwar also reached the protest site in the car of one of his disciples in Hary- ana, and though no one knows what happened there, but later he was admitted to the emer- gency of Ram Manohar Lohiya Hospital, in the hope that some of his near and dear ‘leaders’ may inform Rahul about him. Youth Con- gress President BV Srinivas was arrested by the police during the protest and put in a car, but he silently dis- appeared from there by open- ing the car door. This f o o t a g e was ac- cessed by some news channels. The most amazing thing was done by the Congress leaders of Bihar. Bihar Congress working pres- ident Madan Mohan Jha and the party’s leg- islature party leaders sat on a dharna at the Sadaqat Ashram of the Congress in Patna it- self and did not even consider it appropriate to take their agitation on the road. HARYANA CONGRESS’ IN FIGHT BENEFITS BJP How did Rahul’s close aide Ajay Maken finally get de- feated by just half a vote in H a r y a n a ’ s Rajya Sabha elections? Its script was written at the same time when the top l e a d e r - ship of C o n - gress handed over the entire reins of Haryana to Bhupinder Singh Hooda. If sources are to be believed, Hooda’s op- ponents, stunned by this, gathered at Kiran Chaudhary’s farm house. Word is that Kul- deep Bishnoi, Kumari Selja and Kiran Choud- hary were also present in this secret meeting. It is said that it was de- cided in this meeting that Kuldeep Bishnoi would first blow the bu- gle of protest. This pro- test will be indirectly supported by Kiran Choudhary. So, when Kiran Choudhary’s vote was cancelled in this time’s Rajya Sabha polls, senior Congress- men clenched their fists, because there was no room for error in the vote for Kiran Choud- hary, because before now she had success- fully voted in six such elections. ...AND FINALLY Recently, B J P ’ s B a r r a c k - pore MP and West B e n g a l BJP vice- p r e s i - d e n t Arjun Singh left the BJP and joined TMC. Arjun Singh had joined BJP in 2019 from TMC and won the elections. The BJP had constitut- ed a ‘Fact Finding Com- mittee’ to find out the reason behind Arjun Singh leaving the party, and the report of this committee is somewhat shocking. In fact, Arjun Singh had gone to a sen- ior minister of the Modi government with a delegation of jute traders from Bengal re- cently . It is said that the minister stirred up his MP in front of the del- egation and said, “What do you have to do with this matter.” The MP was shocked and al- though he complained about this to ‘two sen- iors’, but the minister is dear to both of them, so when there was no hearing, it was then that Arjun Singh made up his mind to go to Tri- namool. No matter how hard we argue at times but I always have your sayings in my heart as a treasure to cherish forever. I will never be that big to pay you back for what you have given to me. You are the real hero. I LOVE YOU PAPPU!! T hank you dad for being the strength, behind which we feel secure and protected. Dad, you are our best friend with whom we can share our secrets with utmost faith knowing that we'll get the best advice. The laughter we share during our silly, stupid acts is the treasure of our life. T hank you for all the piggyback rides, all the times you pretended to be a horse, and all the times you threw me into the air and caught me. Your body might be regretting it now, but it gave me wonderful childhood memories. Happy Father’s Day, Dad! N o matter how old I get, Dad, I’ll always be that same little girl who loves you with all her heart. Happy Father’s Day! You’re more than a father—you’re a friend. I hope all the love you’ve given to our family comes back to you a hundred times over today! D ad, I am sorry for some days I make you go crazy or annoyed with my deeds but I assure you that I will make you feel proud on the day for having me, deep inside I know my limits imbibed in your teachings. H appy Father's Day to the best man in the world! For everything you say and do, you've touched my heart in every way. P apa, you are a friend at times and a guide showing us the light in difficult situations, help- ing us to polish ourselves and shine with your guiding light. I copy you, follow you and try to be you, you are my hero. N ot a day goes by when I don’t feel very, very lucky to have a dad like you. I am so grateful for all you have done for me. One day just isn’t enough to tell you how much you mean to me. Love you so much! athers, like mothers, play an important role in a child’s emo- tional development. Fathers create a sense of physical and mental security. They are kind and support- ive, and they have a signifi- cant impact on our cognitive and social development. They also instil a general sense of happiness and self-assurance. To make his or her father proud is a child’s dream. For stability and emotional sup- port, young girls look to their dads. A father demonstrates tohisdaughterwhatahealthy male-female interaction looks like. If her father is kind and caring, she will search for such traits in men. If a father is courageous and powerful, his daughter will be drawn to men who share his qualities. Boys model them- selves after their father’s character. From an early age, boys will want acceptance from their dads. We learn to operate in the world by mim- icking the behaviour of oth- ers around us as we grow up as human beings. If a father is concerned about his chil- dren’s well-being and treats them with respect, the young boy will follow in his foot- steps. There are some per- sons who have fathers. Some have father figures in their lives. Amazing guys who weren’t around when we were born but who assist us in dis- covering who we are sup- posed to be. They’re similar to the earth. A solid founda- tion beneath our feet, rich in character and heart, capable of supporting mountains while remaining gentle enough to nurture plants. HAPPY FATHER’S DAY to ALL THE “DADS” OUT THERE! WE SEE YOU AND WE APPRECIATE YOU! F OVE OVE T he older I get the more I realize how important it is to have a dad like you. You have provided stability in my life and the love and acceptance I needed. God gave me such a gift when he gave me you for a father.
