RAJ LAGGING BEHIND AS...
Jal Jeevan Mission facing severe challenges in State
Rajendra Chhabra
Jaipur
he Jal Jeevan
Mission in Ra-
jasthan is fac-
ing severe challenges,
leading to the state fall-
ing behind in the coun-
try’s rankings.
As of now, the state
has not achieved its tar-
get of 50 lakh connec-
tions, with a performance
rate being just 42 percent.
With this, Rajasthan is at
12th place across the
country in terms of im-
plementation.
This struggle has been
ongoing since Septem-
ber 2021 when the gov-
ernment started appoint-
ing IAS officer as the
mission director, who
were previously an engi-
neer. Over the past two
years, five mission di-
rectors have been re-
placed— Prithviraj (4
months), Prakash Ra-
jpurohit (3 months),
Pratap Singh (3 months),
Kumar Pal Gautam (20
days) and Avichal
Chaturvedi (One year).
Avichal Chaturvedi, a
young IAS officer of
2012 batch, had barely
brought the work of the
mission back on track in
a year, when two days
ago the government
transferred him too and
given the responsibility
of Alwar collector. No
one has been appointed
as the mission director
after him. In the past also
the post had remained va-
cant for many days.
PHED is the parent de-
partment of the mission.
The Mission Director has
to work under the head of
the department but coor-
dination and cooperation
between the two is a ma-
jor problem.
First there was a clash
between ACS Sudhansh
Pant and Prithviraj. Then
coordination between
ACS Subodh Agarwal
and Prakash Rajpurohit,
and Subodh Agarwal
and Pratap Singh was
lacking. Somehow a
working relationship
had developed between
Subodh Agarwal and
Avichal Chaturvedi but
now the government
transferred Avichal.
It is said that in reality
even Avichal was not
comfortable here and was
requesting for change.
Another problem, sourc-
es reveal, is that the tech-
nical officers of PHED
have not taken it lightly
that an IAS officer is sit-
ting in Jal Bhawan.
They want their own
chief engineer to only be
the “boss”. Knowledge-
able sources, who have a
detailed idea of the mis-
sion, claim that “For such
a huge project a full time
IAS officer is needed.”
It thus remains to be
seen how and whom the
government appoints as
the new mission director.
But there is no scope for
experiment in this matter.

The Jaipur Develop-

has turned a blind eye to
indiscriminate con-

Specifically, an unau-

on this crucial land strip
on the JLN road which
serves as a VVIP route.
The issue revolves
around an illegal mar-

Now, it appears to be

Speculations on MLA Om Prakash

There is speculation
over which party will
Om Prakash Hudla contest
elections from as he is in
touch with both Congress
and BJP. Talks are that
attempts are there to get
tickets from either of them.
People from Gehlot camp
are trying to get Hudla a ticket from Congress but the
Sachin Pilot Camp has accused Hudla of being in touch
with BJP also. Some people termed Mahuva as a gen-
eral seat and advocated tickets for general candidates.
On the other hand, some leaders of BJP also put a veto
for not allowing Hudla’s entry into BJP. Hudla is ac-
cused of supporting Congress in the last five years.
Jaipur: After the
implementation of the
code of conduct for the
Assembly elections 2023,
action has now started
against those who violate
the code of conduct. The
police have filed a case in
Vaishali Nagar police
station against BJP leader Ashu Singh Surpura who
violated the code of conduct. Singh, seeking ticket from
Jhotwara, organized an event in the Kesar Bagh
marriage garden without permission. A large number of
people participated in it. When information regarding
permission was sough, they evaded reply. A case has
been registered under 188 IPC and 4:6 RNC Act.
Nagaur: A statement
of Congress leader
Richpal Mirdha has come
up in discussion wherein
the senior leader said,
“We have to contest
elections, will fill form on
2nd. You guys, don’t get
engrossed in the
procession, you have to
go at the right time. I am
not a candidate so code
of conduct doesn’t
matter, all this is not from
Vijaypal’s side but from
my side.Till date Vijaypal
has not committed any
mistake in his mind but if
some mistake has been
made, I apologize to all of
you for that.”
The political
strategists have
their eyes on Eastern
Rajasthan. Last time
Congress had won 35
seats out of 39. BJP got
3 seats from this part of
state. In these also,
BJP’s credibility was
saved by getting 2 seats
in Alwar. Gurjars voted in
favour of Congress on
35-40 Gurjar dominated
seats. 8 out of 11 Gurjar
candidates from
Congress had won
whereas all the 7 Gurjar
candidates of BJP were
defeated. Hence this time
top leaders of BJP took
the election command.

BSP supremo Mayawati
will visit the state on No-
vember 17, just a week
ahead of the election date
and will hold eight public
meetings in different as-

BSP State President

said that Mayawati will
stay here till November
20. During these four
days, she will address a
total of eight public
meetings. She would ad-
dress public meetings in
two assembly constituen-

Baba said that the state

Mayawati’s state tour.
The party will mobilize
completely to make her

Sawai Madhopur
BJP candidate from
Sawai Madhopur assem-
bly seat Dr. Kirodi Lal
Meena made his first
visit to the district after
declaration of his name.
He paid a visit to Trinetra
Ganesh Temple in Ranth-
ambore and prayed for
success in the upcoming
elections. During his vis-
it, Kirodi was accompa-
nied by a sizable group of
party workers. He also
engaged with the people
at the district headquar-
ters.
On the other hand,
Congress is reviewing its
strategy for Sawai Mad-
hopur seat after Meena
was made the candidate.
Initially, it seemed likely
that the incumbent MLA
would retain the Sawai
Madhopur seat, but with
Kirodi’s entry, the Con-
gress is now reassessing
its strategy.
BJP-Congress
heads…
It was certainly some-
what surprising for the
national president of a
party to visit during the
election season and not
give a message from any
public platform. This
can be understood
amidst the sparks of dis-
satisfaction that arose
within the party after the
first list of BJP came out.
After the meeting, a
message was also given
to the BJP members of
the entire state that the
organization is para-
mount and forgetting
differences of opinions,
all the leaders and work-
ers should now concen-
trate on winning the
elections. Nadda stressed
that the first goal is to
make the lotus blossom
in the state and form the
BJP government.
Meanwhile, Kharge
enumerated all the
schemes of Gehlot gov-
ernment and the bene-
fits the public was get-
ting from them in the
Baran meeting. Speak-
ing on Red Diary, he
also targeted BJP and
PM Modi. With this
election speech he ex-
plained the party line
for campaigning.
Though BJP initially re-
leased the first list tar-
geting the weak seats,
but through Kharge,
Congress made its debut
to win those 89 seats in
13 districts where its
party was strong. The
issue of water was also
raised, which affects
these areas.
The political dynam-
ics in the region are
poised for a transforma-
tion as both major par-
ties vie for supremacy

CASH-FOR-QUERY
SCAM MEMORY
GETS REVIVED
ahua Moitra, one of the most outspoken Lok
Sabha MPs ofTrinamool Congress, finds her-
self in hot waters for her repeated attacks on
Gautam Adani. Nishikant Dubey, a BJP MP, has in a
letter urged the Speaker Om Birla to form a committee
to probe his charge that Moitra took bribes from a
business group to raise questions against Adani.
Taking money to ask questions, whether for a cor-
porate house or an individual, is a serious offence
which falls under the Prevention of Corruption Act
and other sections of the IPC. In 2005, 11 former MPs
were charge-sheeted in a cash-for-query scam which
raised questions of ethics on MPs conduct. The scam
was uncovered by Cobrapost online news site. The
MPs were later expelled. BJP leader LK Advani
found their expulsion “harsh”.
The same rules will apply to Mahua but the deci-
sion to expel her rests on the Speaker who may first
form a parliamentary panel to look into Nishikant
Dubey’s charges.

WHODUNIT DILEMMA
IN NITHARI HORROR
ape and killing of children in Noida’s Nith-
ari area in 2005-2006 was too gory to be eas-
ily forgotten. Nithari shot to infamy for these
gory crimes and Moninder Singh Pandher and his
domestic help Surinder Koli were found guilty by the
CBI court. As per the CBI investigation children were
lured into Pandher’s house by Koli who raped and
killed them. In some cases he was alleged to have
confessed to eating the victims’flesh and having sex
with their lifeless bodies. Children’s bodies were dug
up after Koli’s “confession”.
If the crime as reported on the basis of police and
CBI investigations was shocking, 17 years later the
Allahabad High
Court order acquit-
ting the two accused
is even more shock-
ing. The high court
which also set aside
their death sentence
awarded by the lower
court did not find
enough evidence to
uphold their convic-
tion. Pandher’s law-
yerManishaBhandari
said that he has been
acquitted in two of
the six cases.
If the Pandher and
Koli were not in-
volved in the rapes
and murder of people
missing from the area
then who committed
the crime which was
brought to the notice of the UP Police by Nithari vil-
lagers who accused the police of concealing informa-
tion. This led to the suspension of two policemen.
If the acquittals are made the CBI will have to
answer a lot of questions. Did they arrest the wrong
people and force their confessions? In all likelihood
the judgment will be challenged in the Supreme
Court to allay doubts about the CBI’s efficiency and
investigation.

ike life,
cricket is full
of uncertain-
ties and
that’s why it
is said that till the last ball
isbowled…acricketmatch
can never be predicted.
Time and again upset
matches and underdogs
have beaten champions and
world class teams to botch
up the prospects of a win-
ning team. And this trend,
as far as the One-Day Inter-
national World Cup is con-
cerned, started way back in
the summer of 1983.
Believe it or not, today’s
kids who are seeing Rohit
Sharma’s willow pulveris-
ing Pakistan’s bowling at-
tack, may not have an idea
that India had a disastrous
start in the World Cups
which began way back in
1975. Called the Prudential
World Cup for the first
three editions, India was
done and dusted by the sec-
ond World Cup four years
later in 1979. But as I said,
Cricket is a glorious game
of huge uncertainties, any-
thing can happen in the
Gentlemen’s Game and
that became evident in the
fourth match of the tourna-
ment in 1983 when India
took onWest Indies… oops
considering the year and
India’s cricketing status
then… the sentence should
read whenWest Indies took
on India in Manchester on
June 9, 1983.
Even in India people
never hoped against hope
about the results, but by
9pm, the All-India Radio
bulletin humbly went on to
announce India’s FIRST-
EVER victory in a league
match in World Cup and
that too defeating the two-
time defending champs the
West indies by 34 runs!
However, for the record,
India’sonlypreviouswinin
the tournament history ac-
tually had come against
East Africa in 1975 while
on the other hand, West In-
dies had not lost a single
match until that day, win-
ning both the 1975 and the
1979 editions.And unfortu-
nately, in 2023… West In-
dies failed to qualify for the
World Cup!!! What a glori-
ous game of uncertainties.
History repeated itself
on Sunday night when Af-
ghanistan registered their
first win by defeating the
defending champions Eng-
land by a whopping 69
runs. Batting first,Afghan-
istan had a brilliant start
and finish… scoring 284 in
49.5 overs. With the pitch
starting to grip and offer
turn in the first half, that
felt like a good challenge
for Jos Buttler and team,
especially with the spin-
ners Afghanistan had.
Again in 1983 India
went on to reach the final
of the Prudential World
Cup and met the Mighty
West Indies. But whatever
is destined has to happen.
In the afternoon of June 25,
1983 India scripted history
and today it is narrated like
a folklore how the battered
and bruisedTeam India (re-
memberDilipVengsarkar’s
injury in a league match
that virtually kept him out
of the tournament) held on
to their hopes to lift the cup
at the balcony of the famed
Lord’s.
Also, since then, West
Indies has never won the
Cup again and now are
even out of the tourna-
ment, while India grew
from strength to strength
and today BCCI is among
the richest sporting boards
in the world.
THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY
THE AUTHOR ARE PERSONAL
L IN 1992, ANOTHER UPSET WAS SEEN AND IT
WAS A WORLD CUP OF MANY FIRSTS TOO
The 1992 World Cup was the first to feature coloured player
clothing, white cricket balls and black sight screens, with a num-
ber of matches being played under floodlights. It was also the
first Cricket World Cup to be held in the southern hemisphere
and the first to include South Africa, who had been allowed to
re-join the International Cricket Council as a Test-playing nation
after the end of Apartheid. For the first time, the World Cup was
not held after a four-year gap, but five. The 1992 edition saw
South Africa in the most bizarre fashion… The Proteas had
beaten the mighty Aussies in Sydney by 9 wickets.
ALLAN DONALD’S 3/34 IN 10 OVERS SAW
ALLAN BORDER AND CO FOLD UP FOR 170/9
For starters, the quality of the South African lineup, in 1992,
however, did not make it look like rookies, but it may be re-
called that South Africa had only just returned to international
cricket after more than two decades. Before the 1992 World
Cup, South Africa had played only three ODIs, when they
came to India and had lost two and won one.
At first-ever win against
full-member side in men’s
ODI WC, Afghanistan did
not just defeat England but
they dominated the match
too. Buttler, had said at start
of tournament, “I don’t see
us as defending champions.
We’re very much in the
same boat now as every-
body sat here on the eve of
tournament trying to win it.”
2023: AFGHANISTAN
THRASHES ENGLAND
Bangladesh got the better
of India by five wickets in
the group-stage match at
Port of Spain, and the result
eventually caused the team's
early elimination. Mashrafe
Mortaza's 4/38 put India in a
spot as they collapsed to a
below-par 191 in 49.3 overs.
Bangladesh chased down
the target in 48.3 overs with
five wickets in hand.

TIRADE CONTINUES
Dubey urges IT Minister to probe Mahua’s log-in credentials in Lok Sabha
PTI
New Delhi
JP MP Nishi-
kant Dubey,
who wrote to
Lok Sabha Speaker Om
Birla accusing TMC’s
Mahua Moitra of taking
“bribes” from a business-
man to ask questions in
Parliament, has also writ-
ten to IT Minister Ash-
wini Vaishnaw, urging
him to investigate the IP
addresses of her log-in
credentials for the House.
In a letter to Birla on
Sunday, Dubey cited a
letter he received from
advocate Jai Anant De-
hadrai and said the law-
yer has shared “irrefuta-
ble” evidence that the
Trinamool Congress
(TMC) MP has taken
bribes in the form of
“cash” and “gifts” from
business tycoon Darshan
Hiranandani to ask ques-
tions in Parliament.
RespondingtoDubey’s
letter, Moitra said “all
parliamentary work of
MPs is done by PAs, as-
sistants, interns and large
teams”, and requested
Vaishnaw to release the
details of the locations
and log-in credentials of
all the MPs with Call
Data Records (CDRs).
She also asked the infor-
mation technology minis-
ter to release information
on the training given to
the staff to log in.
Hiranandani Group has
said there is “no merit” in
the allegations, even as a
war of words continued
on Monday, with Union
minister Rajeev Chan-
drashekhar alleging that
the company was “active-
lyandaggressivelylobby-
ing for data localisation”.
In a letter to Vaishnaw,
Dubey urged him to take
the allegations against
Moitra with “utmost seri-
ousness” and initiate an
investigation to ascertain
the IP addresses of all
log-in credentials of the
TMC leader’s Lok Sabha
account and determine
whether there were any
instances in which her
account was accessed at
a location where she was
not present.
He said the allegation
that the Krishnanagar MP
gave Darshan Hiranan-
dani and the Hiranandani
conglomerate access to
her log-in credentials for
the Lok Sabha website so
that they could utilise it
for their own personal
gain “is possibly the most
damning and grave of all
the charges that are being
made against her”.

history,

evoke the opulence and
grace of the Polonaise
gown. This exquisite at-
tire, born in the heart of the
18th century, is more than
just a dress, it is an em-
bodiment of an era
marked by artistic
flourish and so-
cietal transformation. The
polonaise gown’s name
draws from the Polish
influence that swept
through European
courts. It
emerged dur-
ing the reign of
Louis XV in
France, a time
when fashion was a
canvas for cultural
exchange. This
gown marked a revo-
lutionary shift from
the restrictive, cor-
seted fashion of the
Baroque period.
What sets the
Polonaise apart is
its innovative
construction. It
boasts a
form-fitting
bodice and
a skirt
t h a t
gathers and cascades
gracefully to the back.
The architectural marvel
creates a stunning drape,
revealing glimpses of the
petticoat underneath. It’s
a sartorial dance of fabric
that excludes sophistica-
tion and flair. The mate-
rial used in a gown is
nothing short of extrava-
ganza. Silk, Satin, and
brocade were the canvas-
es upon which artisans
painted intricate floral
motifs and delicate embroidery. The
luxuriousfabricsadornedtheNobeland
were well-heeled, while more straight-
forward variations made the Polonaise
accessible to the burgeoning middle
class.
The beauty of the gown lies only in
its fabric but also in its trimmings. Lace,
ribbons, and bows adorned these dress-
es, adding an air of whimsy and indi-
viduality. Each gown became a work of
art, a statement of personal style and
creativity. The Polonaise Gown carried
deeper symbolism. Its association with
Poland reflected the political ties be-
tween France and Poland during this
period. Women wore it as a silent en-
dorsement of pro-Polish policies in the
French court.
The polonaise gown is a testament to
an era when fashion transcended mere
clothing. It was a means of expressing
cultural sophistication, political align-
ment, and nascent feminism. Today, it
continues to captivate the hearts of
those who cherish the grandeur and his-
tory of fashion.
Fashion has always been a reflection of the times, and
throughout history, clothing styles have evolved to express
Cultural Values and individual tastes. Here with City First, we
bring some iconic garments from the 18th Century that
embodied both fashion and history.

Epochof Elegance!
ong, luscious
locks are the
dream of many,
but not everyone
is fortunate
enough to have a
head full of
healthy hair. Hair growth can be
impacted by a range of factors
from genetics to daily stress, but
did you know that your diet plays
a significant role too? Introducing
certain juices into your diet can
have a transformative effect on
your hair's health and growth.
Here's a look at five nutrient-
packed juices that can give your
hair that much-needed boost.
CARROT JUICE FOR
VIBRANT HAIR
When we think of carrots,
we often think of im-
proved eyesight. But
these crunchy wonders
are also beneficial for
hair growth. Packed
with vitaminA, car-
rot juice helps
improve hair growth by boosting
the production of sebum, a natural
oil that aids in keeping the scalp
and hair roots healthy. Moreover,
carrots contain vitamins C and E,
which combat premature graying
and breakage. Drink a glass of car-
rot juice every other day for the
best results.
STRAWBERRIES FOR
STRONGER STRANDS
Red, juicy strawberries aren't just
delicious; they're also a power-
house of hair-boosting nutrients.
These berries are filled with silica,
a trace mineral that's pivotal for
hair strength and is known to pre-
vent hair thinning. Strawberries
also contain a good amount of vi-
tamin C, an antioxidant that aids in
the production of collagen. Colla-
gen strengthens the hair and en-
sures uniform hair growth. To
make strawberry juice, blend a
handful of ripe strawberries with a
bit of water and enjoy this delight-
ful drink.
CUCUMBERS BOOST
HAIR HEALTH
Cucumbers are majorly known for
their hydrating properties, thanks
to their high water content. But
they also offer unique hair growth
benefits. The enzyme content in
cucumber, particularly sulfur-rich
silica, promotes hair
growth and protects hair from fall-
ing out or breaking. Moreover, the
juice provides hydration to the hair,
making it soft, shiny, and less
prone to tangles. For a refreshing
hair boost, enjoy cucumber juice
mixed with a hint of lemon.
CORIANDER JUICE IS A
HAIR GROWTH TONIC
Coriander, also known as cilantro,
might be your favorite garnish, but
there's more to it than just flavor.
Rich in essential vitamins and
proteins, coriander juice en-
hances hair growth and
combats hair fall. It also
fights off the free radi-
cals that could be dam-
aging your hair and
scalp, preventing pre-
mature graying. The
best way to enjoy co-
riander juice is by
blending fresh co-
riander leaves
with water.
Drink this juice
3-4 times a
week for
noticeable
results.
SPINACH JUICE FOR
STRONGER HAIR
Popeye was onto something when
he gulped down spinach for
strength. While it might not give
you superhuman strength, it defi-
nitely can strengthen your hair.
Spinach is a storehouse of vita-
mins A and C, which collectively
produce sebum - the oily sub-
stance that acts as the body's natu-
ral hair conditioner. The iron, beta
carotene, folate, and vitamin C in
spinach also promote hair follicle
and scalp health, leading to
stronger hair. Start your day with
a glass of spinach juice for a hair-
friendly nutrient boost. While
these juices undoubtedly offer a
plethora of benefits for hair
growth, it's essential to understand
that results won't be instant. Con-
sistency is key. Incorporate these
juices into your daily or weekly
routine and complement them
with a balanced diet, adequate wa-
ter intake, and proper hair care.
Remember, external hair treat-
ments can only do so much. For
hair that shines from within, the
nutrients you put into your body
are just as crucial. So, the next
time you're thinking of
reaching for that soda
or artificial drink,
consider one of these
healthy juices in-
stead. Your hair will
thank you!

In the same conversation, Shah mentioned, Even when I am

  • 2. RAJ LAGGING BEHIND AS... Jal Jeevan Mission facing severe challenges in State Rajendra Chhabra Jaipur he Jal Jeevan Mission in Ra- jasthan is fac- ing severe challenges, leading to the state fall- ing behind in the coun- try’s rankings. As of now, the state has not achieved its tar- get of 50 lakh connec- tions, with a performance rate being just 42 percent. With this, Rajasthan is at 12th place across the country in terms of im- plementation. This struggle has been ongoing since Septem- ber 2021 when the gov- ernment started appoint- ing IAS officer as the mission director, who were previously an engi- neer. Over the past two years, five mission di- rectors have been re- placed— Prithviraj (4 months), Prakash Ra- jpurohit (3 months), Pratap Singh (3 months), Kumar Pal Gautam (20 days) and Avichal Chaturvedi (One year). Avichal Chaturvedi, a young IAS officer of 2012 batch, had barely brought the work of the mission back on track in a year, when two days ago the government transferred him too and given the responsibility of Alwar collector. No one has been appointed as the mission director after him. In the past also the post had remained va- cant for many days. PHED is the parent de- partment of the mission. The Mission Director has to work under the head of the department but coor- dination and cooperation between the two is a ma- jor problem. First there was a clash between ACS Sudhansh Pant and Prithviraj. Then coordination between ACS Subodh Agarwal and Prakash Rajpurohit, and Subodh Agarwal and Pratap Singh was lacking. Somehow a working relationship had developed between Subodh Agarwal and Avichal Chaturvedi but now the government transferred Avichal. It is said that in reality even Avichal was not comfortable here and was requesting for change. Another problem, sourc- es reveal, is that the tech- nical officers of PHED have not taken it lightly that an IAS officer is sit- ting in Jal Bhawan. They want their own chief engineer to only be the “boss”. Knowledge- able sources, who have a detailed idea of the mis- sion, claim that “For such a huge project a full time IAS officer is needed.” It thus remains to be seen how and whom the government appoints as the new mission director. But there is no scope for experiment in this matter. First India Bureau Jaipur Hours of power cut with the festive season around is giving trouble to peo- ple. In some cases he was alleged to have confessed to eating the victims’flesh and having sex with their lifeless bodies. Children’s bodies were dug up after Koli’s “confession”. If the crime as reported on the basis of police and CBI investigations was shocking, 17 years later the Allahabad High Court order acquit- ting the two accused is even more shock- ing. Robin Roy The writer is Senior Journalist and former Managing Editor, First India ike life, cricket is full of uncertain- ties and that’s why it is said that till the last ball isbowled…acricketmatch can never be predicted. Time and again upset matches and underdogs have beaten champions and world class teams to botch up the prospects of a win- ning team. And this trend, as far as the One-Day Inter- national World Cup is con- cerned, started way back in the summer of 1983. Believe it or not, today’s kids who are seeing Rohit Sharma’s willow pulveris- ing Pakistan’s bowling at- tack, may not have an idea that India had a disastrous start in the World Cups which began way back in 1975. Called the Prudential World Cup for the first three editions, India was done and dusted by the sec- ond World Cup four years later in 1979. But as I said, Cricket is a glorious game of huge uncertainties, any- thing can happen in the Gentlemen’s Game and that became evident in the fourth match of the tourna- ment in 1983 when India took onWest Indies… oops considering the year and India’s cricketing status then… the sentence should read whenWest Indies took on India in Manchester on June 9, 1983. Even in India people never hoped against hope about the results, but by 9pm, the All-India Radio bulletin humbly went on to announce India’s FIRST- EVER victory in a league match in World Cup and that too defeating the two- time defending champs the West indies by 34 runs! However, for the record, India’sonlypreviouswinin the tournament history ac- tually had come against East Africa in 1975 while on the other hand, West In- dies had not lost a single match until that day, win- ning both the 1975 and the 1979 editions. And unfortu- nately, in 2023… West In- dies failed to qualify for the World Cup!!! What a glori- ous game of uncertainties. History repeated itself on Sunday night when Af- ghanistan registered their first win by defeating the defending champions Eng- land by a whopping 69 runs. Batting first,Afghan- istan had a brilliant start and finish… scoring 284 in 49.5 overs. With the pitch starting to grip and offer turn in the first half, that felt like a good challenge for Jos Buttler and team, especially with the spin- ners Afghanistan had. Again in 1983 India went on to reach the final of the Prudential World Cup and met the Mighty West Indies. But whatever is destined has to happen. In the afternoon of June 25, 1983 India scripted history and today it is narrated like a folklore how the battered and bruisedTeam India (re- memberDilipVengsarkar’s injury in a league match that virtually kept him out of the tournament) held on to their hopes to lift the cup at the balcony of the famed Lord’s. Also, since then, West Indies has never won the Cup again and now are even out of the tourna- ment, while India grew from strength to strength and today BCCI is among the richest sporting boards in the world. THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY THE AUTHOR ARE PERSONAL L IN 1992, ANOTHER UPSET WAS SEEN AND IT WAS A WORLD CUP OF MANY FIRSTS TOO The 1992 World Cup was the first to feature coloured player clothing, white cricket balls and black sight screens, with a num- ber of matches being played under floodlights. It was also the first Cricket World Cup to be held in the southern hemisphere and the first to include South Africa, who had been allowed to re-join the International Cricket Council as a Test-playing nation after the end of Apartheid. For the first time, the World Cup was not held after a four-year gap, but five. The 1992 edition saw South Africa in the most bizarre fashion… The Proteas had beaten the mighty Aussies in Sydney by 9 wickets. ALLAN DONALD’S 3/34 IN 10 OVERS SAW ALLAN BORDER AND CO FOLD UP FOR 170/9 For starters, the quality of the South African lineup, in 1992, however, did not make it look like rookies, but it may be re- called that South Africa had only just returned to international cricket after more than two decades. Before the 1992 World Cup, South Africa had played only three ODIs, when they came to India and had lost two and won one. At first-ever win against full-member side in men’s ODI WC, Afghanistan did not just defeat England but they dominated the match too. Buttler, had said at start of tournament, “I don’t see us as defending champions. We’re very much in the same boat now as every- body sat here on the eve of tournament trying to win it.” 2023: AFGHANISTAN THRASHES ENGLAND Bangladesh got the better of India by five wickets in the group-stage match at Port of Spain, and the result eventually caused the team's early elimination. Mashrafe Mortaza's 4/38 put India in a spot as they collapsed to a below-par 191 in 49.3 overs. Bangladesh chased down the target in 48.3 overs with five wickets in hand. 2007: BANGLADESH VS INDIA MATCH

TIRADE CONTINUES Dubey urges IT Minister to probe Mahua’s log-in credentials in Lok Sabha PTI New Delhi JP MP Nishi- kant Dubey, who wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla accusing TMC’s Mahua Moitra of taking “bribes” from a business- man to ask questions in Parliament, has also writ- ten to IT Minister Ash- wini Vaishnaw, urging him to investigate the IP addresses of her log-in credentials for the House. In a letter to Birla on Sunday, Dubey cited a letter he received from advocate Jai Anant De- hadrai and said the law- yer has shared “irrefuta- ble” evidence that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP has taken bribes in the form of “cash” and “gifts” from business tycoon Darshan Hiranandani to ask ques- tions in Parliament. RespondingtoDubey’s letter, Moitra said “all parliamentary work of MPs is done by PAs, as- sistants, interns and large teams”, and requested Vaishnaw to release the details of the locations and log-in credentials of all the MPs with Call Data Records (CDRs). She also asked the infor- mation technology minis- ter to release information on the training given to the staff to log in. Hiranandani Group has said there is “no merit” in the allegations, even as a war of words continued on Monday, with Union minister Rajeev Chan- drashekhar alleging that the company was “active- lyandaggressivelylobby- ing for data localisation”. In a letter to Vaishnaw, Dubey urged him to take the allegations against Moitra with “utmost seri- ousness” and initiate an investigation to ascertain the IP addresses of all log-in credentials of the TMC leader’s Lok Sabha account and determine whether there were any instances in which her account was accessed at a location where she was not present. He said the allegation that the Krishnanagar MP gave Darshan Hiranan- dani and the Hiranandani conglomerate access to her log-in credentials for the Lok Sabha website so that they could utilise it for their own personal gain “is possibly the most damning and grave of all the charges that are being made against her”. P11 C 09 firstindia.co.in firstindia.co.in/epapers/jaipur thefirstindia thefirstindia thefirstindia n the an- nals of fashion history, few gar- m e n t s evoke the opulence and grace of the Polonaise gown. This exquisite at- tire, born in the heart of the 18th century, is more than just a dress, it is an em- bodiment of an era marked by artistic flourish and so- cietal transformation. The polonaise gown’s name draws from the Polish influence that swept through European courts. It emerged dur- ing the reign of Louis XV in France, a time when fashion was a canvas for cultural exchange. This gown marked a revo- lutionary shift from the restrictive, cor- seted fashion of the Baroque period. What sets the Polonaise apart is its innovative construction. It boasts a form-fitting bodice and a skirt t h a t gathers and cascades gracefully to the back. The architectural marvel creates a stunning drape, revealing glimpses of the petticoat underneath. It’s a sartorial dance of fabric that excludes sophistica- tion and flair. The mate- rial used in a gown is nothing short of extrava- ganza. Silk, Satin, and brocade were the canvas- es upon which artisans painted intricate floral motifs and delicate embroidery. The luxuriousfabricsadornedtheNobeland were well-heeled, while more straight- forward variations made the Polonaise accessible to the burgeoning middle class. The beauty of the gown lies only in its fabric but also in its trimmings. Lace, ribbons, and bows adorned these dress- es, adding an air of whimsy and indi- viduality. Each gown became a work of art, a statement of personal style and creativity. The Polonaise Gown carried deeper symbolism. Its association with Poland reflected the political ties be- tween France and Poland during this period. Women wore it as a silent en- dorsement of pro-Polish policies in the French court. The polonaise gown is a testament to an era when fashion transcended mere clothing. It was a means of expressing cultural sophistication, political align- ment, and nascent feminism. Today, it continues to captivate the hearts of those who cherish the grandeur and his- tory of fashion. Fashion has always been a reflection of the times, and throughout history, clothing styles have evolved to express Cultural Values and individual tastes. Here with City First, we bring some iconic garments from the 18th Century that embodied both fashion and history. Tripti Mahawar cityfirst@firstindia.co.in I Epochof Elegance!
  • 11. ong, luscious locks are the dream of many, but not everyone is fortunate enough to have a head full of healthy hair. Hair growth can be impacted by a range of factors from genetics to daily stress, but did you know that your diet plays a significant role too? Introducing certain juices into your diet can have a transformative effect on your hair's health and growth. Here's a look at five nutrient- packed juices that can give your hair that much-needed boost. CARROT JUICE FOR VIBRANT HAIR When we think of carrots, we often think of im- proved eyesight. But these crunchy wonders are also beneficial for hair growth. Packed with vitaminA, car- rot juice helps improve hair growth by boosting the production of sebum, a natural oil that aids in keeping the scalp and hair roots healthy. Moreover, carrots contain vitamins C and E, which combat premature graying and breakage. Drink a glass of car- rot juice every other day for the best results. STRAWBERRIES FOR STRONGER STRANDS Red, juicy strawberries aren't just delicious; they're also a power- house of hair-boosting nutrients. These berries are filled with silica, a trace mineral that's pivotal for hair strength and is known to pre- vent hair thinning. Strawberries also contain a good amount of vi- tamin C, an antioxidant that aids in the production of collagen. Colla- gen strengthens the hair and en- sures uniform hair growth. To make strawberry juice, blend a handful of ripe strawberries with a bit of water and enjoy this delight- ful drink. CUCUMBERS BOOST HAIR HEALTH Cucumbers are majorly known for their hydrating properties, thanks to their high water content. But they also offer unique hair growth benefits. The enzyme content in cucumber, particularly sulfur-rich silica, promotes hair growth and protects hair from fall- ing out or breaking. Moreover, the juice provides hydration to the hair, making it soft, shiny, and less prone to tangles. For a refreshing hair boost, enjoy cucumber juice mixed with a hint of lemon. CORIANDER JUICE IS A HAIR GROWTH TONIC Coriander, also known as cilantro, might be your favorite garnish, but there's more to it than just flavor. Rich in essential vitamins and proteins, coriander juice en- hances hair growth and combats hair fall. It also fights off the free radi- cals that could be dam- aging your hair and scalp, preventing pre- mature graying. The best way to enjoy co- riander juice is by blending fresh co- riander leaves with water. Drink this juice 3-4 times a week for noticeable results. SPINACH JUICE FOR STRONGER HAIR Popeye was onto something when he gulped down spinach for strength. While it might not give you superhuman strength, it defi- nitely can strengthen your hair. Spinach is a storehouse of vita- mins A and C, which collectively produce sebum - the oily sub- stance that acts as the body's natu- ral hair conditioner. The iron, beta carotene, folate, and vitamin C in spinach also promote hair follicle and scalp health, leading to stronger hair. Start your day with a glass of spinach juice for a hair- friendly nutrient boost. While these juices undoubtedly offer a plethora of benefits for hair growth, it's essential to understand that results won't be instant. Con- sistency is key. Incorporate these juices into your daily or weekly routine and complement them with a balanced diet, adequate wa- ter intake, and proper hair care. Remember, external hair treat- ments can only do so much. For hair that shines from within, the nutrients you put into your body are just as crucial. So, the next time you're thinking of reaching for that soda or artificial drink, consider one of these healthy juices in- stead. Your hair will thank you!
