NCPCR TO POLICE: PROBE IF ANTI-
SOCIALS INVOLVED CHILDREN
New Delhi: The apex child rights body NCPCR on
Tuesday asked UP Police to probe if children were
involved by anti-social elements in the communal
violence in Kanpur. In a letter to the Kanpur police
commissioner, the National Commission for Protec-
tion of Child Rights said it has come across a media
report which stated that a minor boy surrendered at
Colonelganj police station in the city as the posters
of suspects involved in the June 3 violence put up
by the police included his picture. The report further
indicates that the said minor boy was involved in
stone pelting and he was identified through video
footage, it said. Hence, the NCPCR said, it is of the
view that the anti-social elements involved in the
violence used minors for such illegal activities which
are prima facie in contravention of sections 75 and
83(2) of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of
Children) Act, 2015, and sections of the IPC.

a case has been registered at Gandhi Park police
station in this regard on Monday following her

ritish Prime Minis-
ter Boris Johnson
survived a no-confi-
dence vote against
his government but
the top Brexit votary found his
support within the Conservative
Party dwindling. In the vote
which Johnson won 211-148 only
59 percent of his MPs voted in
his favour. Prime Minister John-
son had swept the 2019 election
riding on the Brexit wave but
alcohol parties which he and his
staff hosted at the prime minis-
ter’s Downing Street residence
during the pandemic dented his
image. Scotland Yard found him
guilty of hosting his birthday
party in breach of Covid rules.
He admitted to having paid a
fine for the breach for which he
publicly apologised.
After winning the no-confi-
dence vote Boris Johnson called
it “Conclusive. Decisive result.”
Going by the discontent among
Tories it is anything but that. He
may not survive in office for
long. Conservative lawmakers
fear that the 57-year-old prime
minister’s authority has been
eroded and cite rising prices and
looming recession as his inabil-
ity to govern.

On the face of it the action
is not too harsh as suspen-

ways be revoked but the trolls
find even a soft action against
a karykarta inexplicable.
They view it as a Hindu gov-
ernment succumbing to pres-

And that hurts the Hindu
pride, stories of which have
been instilled in the minds of
trolls since 2014. As #Shame-

Twitter, the BJP must have
realised the dangers of creat-
ing a Frankenstein monster.
Action against a “young

be worried about how to

without causing uproar
abroad. Interestingly, one
Twitter handle went to the
extent of imagining Yogi
Adityanath as Prime Minis-

Performers will be in a ‘trance’,
we need to understand their pain
hisweek,Ishiftfromtheusual
politicaldiscussionandanaly-
sis and would like to concen-
trateonthelittlethingswhich
we usually don’t do on time
and think all will be fine… but
it doesn’t happen that way!
Every incident should
serve as an eye opener and
we should actually learn
from the lapses and see that
we NEVER repeat our act to
botch up things.
Almost seven days after
the untimely demise of KK in
Kolkata, the air is still heavy
and everyone feels that there
was so much that could be
done to try and save him.
Performers will be per-
formers… they remain in a
trance and their ultimate aim
is to give their best shot and
there are several instances
when they (performers) be
singers or players have not
cared about their health but
have gone that extra mile to
give their best!
Even on that fateful night
when the disturbing videos
which have gone viral have
shown that KK was profusely
sweating and had even asked
the organisers to switch off
some lights as he was “actu-
ally feeling the heat”, but like
a true performer, he never
called it quits.
It is actually the people as-
sociated with these true pro-
fessionals who should treat
them delicately and try to be
more understanding as these
stars remain in a trance
while they perform.
SAMPLE THIS…
In May 2002, when India took
on West Indies in the fourth
Test of a series… on the third
day of the Test, Anil Kumble
while batting was struck
hard under his left jaw, rat-
tling him and Team India.
However, after being attend-
ed to by team physio Andrew
Leipus, Kumble spat blood
but strapped his helmet back
and took guard again!
Mervyn Dillon sent in a
few more short ones and
Kumble who was already
writhing in pain fended one
to Chanderpaul.
Kumble was rushed to the
hospital but the first X-ray
revealed nothing. The next
morning when he told Leipus
that the pain was too much.
Another X-ray revealed that
the jaw had a crack and was
moving on its own!
Kumble didn’t want to get
the surgery done in the West
Indies and was set to leave for
India in the evening.
With Kumble gone and In-
dia hamstrung in the bowling
department, captain Sourav
Ganguly decided to bat on.
Finally, when West Indies
were put in to bat, there was
still some juice in the pitch.
With Kumble sidelined,
Sachin Tendulkar was forced
to wage the battle.
That’s when Kumble
shocked the entire cricketing
world!
Kumble got physio Andrew
Leipus to bandage his face
and turned up to do his duty
for India! Kumble bowled in
excruciating pain.
But then Kumble being
Kumble… he flummoxed
Lara in his fourth over when
hetrappedtheLegendplumb.
By then, Kumble’s face was
swelling. Later when asked
why he decided to come back,
he said: “I didn’t want to sit
around.”
The all-time great Viv
Richards had said, “It was
one of the bravest things I’ve
seen on the field of play
.”
We must not just appreci-
ate, laud, hail and salute such
deeds but also understand
that after all they are humans
and need care too.
That crucial hour on that
fateful day after the show was
wasted, many felt. All of us
got to see how fatigued KK
looked when he was being
rushed out after the show.
Doctors and medical ex-
perts have come down heavily
on the fact that while he could
have been wheeled out of the
auditorium,whywashemade
to walk briskly after such a
hectic show. And surprising-
ly, despite having quite a few
hospitals in the vicinity
, why
didn’t his support team and
the organisers insist on giv-
ing him medical care.
We need to give performers
that conducive atmosphere,
the medical attention and full
care waiting in tow and an
understanding support staff.
Spectators and audience
sometimes fail to realise that
the performers can falter and
they need to be given that
space and here the organisers
should play a huge role in fa-
cilitating the performer… the
organisers must realise that
by simply booking a show
they can’t force or ask a per-
son to perform in conditions
with three times more the
crowd and from time to time
they also need to check if the
performer is comfortable.
Today, KK is not with us,
but have we learnt anything
from this… are we better or-
ganisers or better specta-
tors… or are we still that sav-
age lot asking for more!

IAS OFFICER
RELIEVED FROM
POST OF ADDL
DIRECTOR ICDS
The 2012 batch IAS officer, Dr.
Vibha Chahal who was named
as the Personal Secretary of
Union Minister of State for Health
and Family Welfare, Dr Bharti
Praveen Pawar was relieved from
her post of Additional Director
ICDS by the appointment
department on Tuesday. Dr. Vibha
Chahal was posted as the
Additional Director, ICDS. Even
though this post is usually given
to PCS officers, this change
stems from the fact that IAS
officers are ready to get placed in
junior positions just to so that
could be posted in Lucknow. The
file to relieve IAS Dr. Vibha Chahal
had reached the final echelon in
the appointment department
following which the Chief Minister
gave his final approval which
enabled her to be sent on central
deputation. IAS Dr. Vibha Chahal
had previously held the post of
District Magistrate of Etah albeit
just for 4 months. She was
previously posted as Additional
Resident Commissioner of New
Delhi from 2019 to 2021 and has
held various positions like Special
Secretary APC Branch, OSD,
Grader Noida, Joint Magistrate
Saharanpur, and Joint Magistrate
Meerut in her career. Now with
the relieving of IAS Dr. Vibha
Chahal from ICDS, Sarika Mohan
who is the Director, ICDS has
become the center topic of
discussion as there are murmurs
in the corridors of the
bureaucracy that she might be
promoted and moved to another
department so that the
government could deploy new
officers in the department. IAS
Dr. Vibha Chahal now joins the
list of IAS officers which includes
names like IAS Dheeraj Sahu, IAS
Mukesh Meshram, IAS Anita
Meshram, and various others
who have been relieved from their
posts in state and moved to Delhi
on central deputation.

Lucknow: The decision
of the Congress party to
refrain from participat-
ing in the by-elections to
two Lok Sabha seats in
UPisraisingmanyques-
tions and doubts. Many
leaders within the party
are uncomfortable with
this decision as they be-
lieve that being escapist
will have a further ad-
verse effect on the mo-
rale of the already de-
pressed workers, and
will also weaken the or-
ganization of the Con-
gress in these seats.
Significantly, while
announcing the skip-
ping of the by-elections,
the Congress party rea-
soned that party recon-
struction is important
first in order to present
itself as a strong alter-
native in the Lok Sabha
elections to be held in
2024.
However, a section of
the party is deeply hurt
by the decision not to
contest the elections. A
state Congress official
said on the condition of
anonymity that in the
recent Navsankalp
Workshop held in Luc-

had exhorted the work-
ers not to be disheart-
ened, to work with “dou-
bleenergy”untilvictory
is achieved. He raised
the question that when
the party does not con-
test the elections, then
fromwhereandhowwill
the victory be secured.
Politicalobserversinsist
that the Congress’s vote-
base has not been com-
pletely nil in the bypoll
seats. In 2014, Congress
candidate Arvind
Jaiswal, who contested
against Mulayam Singh
Yadav in Azamgarh, got
a total of 17 thousand
votes i.e. 1.9 percent of
the total votes. In the
2009 LS elections, Con-
gress got 31 thousand
(4.4%) votes. In the year
2019, Congress did not
contest from Azamgarh
Lok Sabha seat, because
Akhilesh Yadav was in

this seat. In order to re-

Lucknow: Minister
Sanjay Nishad has land-
ed himself in a contro-
versy by covering up a
statue of Dr Ram Mano-
har Lohia, installed in
his official residence at
Vikramaditya Marg.
The house was earlier
allotted to Lohia Trust
and Samajwadis had in-
stalled the life-size stat-

Nishad was recently al-
lotted the house and he
has now got the statue
covered with a plywood
box painted in red and
green.The covering up
of the statue has drawn
strong protests from Sa-
majwadi Party which
sees it as an insult to
their ideologue. “What
else can you expect from
a government that has
no respect for the Con-
stitution, our leaders
and ideologues. What is
surprising is that PM
Modi and CM Yogi have
praised Dr Lohia and
cited his ideology, but
this minister shows ut-
ter disregard for Lohia,”

Lucknow: UP RERA, in
a meeting held under
the chairmanship of
Rajive Kumar on Tues-
day reviewed the status
of compliance of its or-
ders by the promoters.
The meeting was at-
tended by its members
Kalpana Misra, Bhanu
Pratap Singh, Secretary
Rajesh Kumar and se-
nior officers.
The Authority noted
with displeasure that
some of the promoters
have indulged in
non-compliance of its
orders besides the Au-
thority granting them
sufficient time for the
same. The Authority is
making constant efforts
to ensure enforcement
of itsordersandprovide
speedy justice to the
agreed allottees. The ac-
tion of penalty against
the guilty promoters is
an important step to-
wards compelling them
to comply with the or-
ders of the Authority
.
Taking the above
facts in to account, the
Authority decided to
impose appropriate
penalty against the pro-
moters to ensure com-
pliance of its orders
and protect the inter-
ests of the home buyers.
The Authority, using its
powers under section
38/63 of the RERA Act
which empowers it to
penalise the non-com-
pliant promoters with
up to 5% of the cost of
the project, decided to
impose penalty against
the promoters.
The Authority fur-
ther directed the pro-
moters to submit the
compliance report of its
orders within 15 days
and deposit the amount
of penalty within 30
days, otherwise the
amount of penalty shall
be recovered as arrears
of land revenue.
First India Bureau
Lucknow: The
Azamgarh Lok Sabha
seat is set to witness a
triangular contest as
BJP, Samajwadi Party
and BSP have joined
the fray in the byelec-
tion to be held on June
23. The Congress has
decided not to contest
the elections at both
places- Azamgarh and
Rampur.
While direct contest
between the BJP and
SP is on the cards in
Rampur, Azamgarh
battle has become in-
teresting with two Ya-
davs-SP’s Dharmendra
Yadav cousin of Akh-
ilesh Yadav and BJP’s
Dinesh Lal Yadav
“Nirahua” have been
making determined ef-
forts to win over the
community’s vote,
which is in dominant
position. The BSP,
while refraining from
joining contest in Ram-
pur, has fielded a formi-
dable candidate Shah
Alam alias Guddu Ja-
mali with the hope to
make dent into SP’s
Muslim electorate.
Guddu Jamali, who
was expelled from BSP
before UP Assembly
elections, had contest-
ed assembly election on
AIMIM ticket and suc-
ceeded in garnering
around 35000 votes of
Muslim community.
Interestingly on the
last day of nomination
on June 6 the SP had
announced candida-
ture of Dharmendra
Yadav from Azamgarh
as earlier the name of
Dimple Yadav wife of
Akhilesh Yadav was in
circulation. Earlier the
SP announced the
name of a dalit leader
Shushil Kumar. But he
withdrew from the fray
paving way for Dhar-
mendra Yadav to file
nomination papers.
Azamgarh had been
a strong bastion of SP
as Mulayam Singh Ya-
dav won this seat in
2014 and in 2019 Lok
Sabha election Akh-
ilesh Yadav retained it.
In 2022 assembly elec-
tions SP had won in all
ten assembly segments
in the district. The bye-
lection has been neces-
sitated following the
resignation of Akh-
ilesh Yadav from this
seat after his victory
from Karhal (Mainpu-
ri) in assembly elec-
tion.
Even as the SP has
been trying to keep
control over the seat,
BJP, with an eye on
2024 Lok Sabha elec-
tions, has launched
hectic efforts to make
inroads in SP citadel as
saffron juggernaut was
stopped in Azamgarh
both in 2019 and 2022
elections.
While BJP is hoping
to wean away a sub-
stantial chunk of Ya-
dav vote and wrest seat
from SP with the sup-
port of other backward
communities and up-
per castes, the SP is
largely banking on for-
midable combination
Yadav-Muslim to main-
tain lead.
But the BSP, which
was ahead of all the
party in announcing
the candidature of
Guddu Jamali is look-
ing to divide Muslim
votes. BJP, betting on
Bhojpuri singer “Nira-
hua,” has veered round
to the view division in
Yadav and Muslim
votes would help the
party in the elections.
However in view of
past records even in ad-
versities the SP leaders
are confident of retain
the base.

WEAVER OF IMPLAUSIBLE After creating implausible and
immortal artworks, the genius of his
time Leonardo Da Vinci has become
a never-dying part of human lives
eonardo’sex-
traordinary
art involves
the greatest
painting of
all times
‘Monalisa’to
the beautiful master-
piece ‘Last Supper’,
these artworks have
not only gained popu-
larity based on their
beauty but have given
ideas for flying vehi-
cles and ground-
breaking research on
optics and perspec-
tive. People were so
fascinated by his art-
works that they start-
ed comparing him
with aliens. They had
started raising ques-
tions like ‘Leonardo
Da Vinci’s mysteri-
ous disappearance be
evidence of an alien
encounter?’ They be-
lieved that his mas-
terfulpaintings,high-
ly technical hand-
drawn sketches and
private journals re-
veal knowledge of
otherworldly technol-
ogy and extraterres-
trial beings. Because
of his visionary arts,
which were beyond
time and science,
somecalledhimama-
gician, some de-
scribed him as God!
Let’s take a look at
what science has to
say about geniuses.
When National Geo-
graphic caught Isaac-
son by his phone at
his home in Washing-
ton, DC, he explained
why Monalisa’s grin
represents the con-
clusion of a lifetime
of investigation, why
Michelangelo and
Leonardocouldn’ttol-
erate each other, and
whyLeonardo’sdefin-
ing attribute was cu-
riosity
.
We have to start
with the most famous
and mysterious smile
in the world. Where
does the “Monalisa”
fitintoLeonardo’slife
and work—and how
has she managed to
enchant us for 500
years? The Monali-
sa’s beautiful smile is
the fruition of a life-
time spent studying
art, science, optics
and every other pos-
sible field to that he
could apply his curi-
osity, including un-
derstanding the uni-
verse and how we fit
into it. Leonardo
spent many pages in
his notebook scruti-
nising the human
face to figure out eve-
ry muscle and nerve
that touched the lips.
One finite example
wasseeninthosepag-
es, you see a faint
sketch at the top of
the beginning of the
smile of the Monali-
sa. Leonardo kept
that painting from
1503, from the time it
starts to his deathbed
in 1519, trying to get
every aspect exactly
right in layer after
layer! During that pe-
riod, he dissected the
human eye on cadav-
ers and was able to
understand that the
centre of the retina
sees detail, but the
edges see shadows
and shape better.
Leonardo tried ex-
plaininghisemotions
in that favourite
painting of his, if we
look straight at the
Monalisa’s smile, the
corners of her lips
turn downward
slightly, but shadows
and light make it
appear like it’s turn-
ing upwards. The
beauty of the paint-
ing is when you move
your eyes across her
face the smile will
flicker on and off. He
had tried his magical
hands to depict the
inner feeling the lady
is holding. Not only
this, he carried his
notebook around as
he walked through
Florence or Milan
and always sketched
people’s expressions
and emotions and
tried to relate that to
the inner feelings
they had and a clear
picture can be seen in
his “The Last Sup-
per.” Even after at-
tending to perfection
in portraying emo-
tionshisunbelievable
“Monalisa” is still the
culmination because
the emotions that
she’s expressing, just
like her smile, are a
bit elusive. Every
time you look at her it
seems slightly differ-
ent. It tries to depict
the inner emotions.
His ‘the most spell-
binding narrative
painting in history -
The Last Supper’
takeusinsideitscrea-
tion and explain why
it is such a ultimate
workof art.TheDuke
of Milanaskedhimto
paint it on the wall of
a dining hall of a
monastery
. Unlike
other depictions of
“The Last Supper,”
Leonardo doesn’t just
captureamomentbut
he understood that
there is no such thing
as a disconnected in-
stant of time. He re-
written the trance of
motion in the paint-
ing and created ‘The
Last Supper’ a dra-
matic narrative. As
wewalkinthedoorof
vision,weseeChrist’s
hand then, going up
the arm, stare at his
face. He’s saying,
“One of you shall be-
tray me.” As our eyes
move across the pic-
ture, we see that
soundalmostrippling
outward as each of
thegroupsof apostles
reacts. In the Book of
Matthew, Jesus says
that the one who
dipped his hand into
the bowl with him is
the “betrayer”. Also
Vinci had those at the
table sitting in a pat-
tern:33133,mightbea
numerological mes-
sage and considering
this, Vinci ignored
convention in his
creation by not plac-
inghalosaboveJesus.
Many art historians
believe that Vinci
believed in nature,
not in God.

lowers are without a
doubt one of the most
photographed subjects.
It isn’t hard to see why,
we are surrounded by
them, and their wide
range of colours,
shapes, and sizes means that
you rarely have to venture far
before you find one that catches
your eye. Unfortunately, many
people make fundamental er-
rors when photographing flow-
ers. This can result in shots that
lack “punch”, appearing much
less interesting and vibrant
than they did in person. There
are several principles that you
can follow to give your flower
photos more impact, capturing
lots of detail and making them
engaging to the viewer. By
learning these guidelines, you’ll
be able to spot an underwhelm-
ing photo before you capture it,
and reframe the shot in a more
interesting way
.
POSITION FLOWERS INTO
YOUR FOREGROUND
One of the easiest, most impact-
ful ways to add fresh flowers into
your images is to add them to the
foreground of your image. Add-
ing flowers into the foreground
adds another dimension to the
photo you’re creating. Doing this
will blur the flowers, yet keep the
person you’re photographing in
focus. Focus on the subject’s
eyes, and voilà, your camera will
do the rest.
USE FLOWERS TO CONCEAL
PART OF YOUR SUBJECT’S FACE
Rather than concealing part of
the frame, try using a flower to
conceal part of your subject’s
face. Whether it’s your model
holding the stem of a beautiful
peony covering one of her
eyes, or carefully placing dai-
sies on the back of your mod-
el’s head, try using a flower to
leave something to be discov-
ered in your image.
FLOWER POWER
MEETS WILD CHILD
If you’re shooting with a model
that has long hair, you’re in
luck! This can be a really beauti-
ful way to create festival-vibe
photos. Using small flowers or
petals like baby’s breath, dai-
sies, or elderflower take the
flowers and start pulling the
fluff into your hand until it’s
in tiny pieces. Once it’s in
tiny pieces, depending on the
size, you can either place the
flowers carefully in your
model’s hair or gently drop
them on top of your model’s
hair. One look is more staged,
and one more natural, best
suited for wildflowers.
CREATING FLORAL BACKDROPS
IN STUDIO SPACES
If you have a ton of flowers, you
can easily create a flower wall
to provide an impactful back-
drop for your image. But, if you
don’t have the time or the ener-
gy to create a full floral back-
drop, you can carefully place
flowers on the ground and have
your subject lie in them.
GET INSPIRED BY ART
FOR CREATIVE FLOWER
PORTRAIT PROJECTS
Pick a flower that inspires you,
or one that can be easily found
in your geographical area, and
create a series of portraits
around that flower. You’d be
surprised by how creative you
can get when you open your im-
agination.

Lucknow’s Standup Score
Lucknow’s Standup Score
To check Lucknow’s
chuckle club, City First
asks standup
comedians and
managers about its
scope and challenges
t’s said, ‘laughter is the best medicine’, and it comes
to life almost every weekend in the city. Standup
comedy clubs & open mics have enabled many art-
ists from the city to showcase their talent while
sharing laughs with the crowd.
The culture of a comedic performance to a live
audience has grown tremendously over the past
few years and thanks to millennials and Gen-Z it’s thriving
via the social media platforms.
And while the industry is still warming up to the crowd
of Lucknow, City First asked standup comedians and man-
agers about its developments of chuckle clubs.

A Standup comic talked
about comedy culture in
Lucknow, and said, “The
city of Nawabs is carved
with beautiful culture and a
rich tradition of literature,
music, and comedy giving
many popular comedy art-
ists to the world, like Raju
Srivastava, Varun Grover,
Kaka Hathrasi, K.P. Saxena.
However, despite comedy be-
ing part of daily conversa-
tion and giving birth to so
many great comic artists,
the capital city lacked a
proper platform for budding
comics until now. Today, lo-
cal comics are being invited
to do opening acts in the
shows of celebrity comics,
and also to perform in pri-
vate and corporate events.
SAMIR AHMED,
The Lucknow comedy
scene is growing and
establishing itself in
the city. It was initial-
ly started in the cafés
that were not high-end
but located near col-
leges so that we could
have a young crowd.
Recently we have
tapped in on the more
prominent locations
of Lucknow enabling
us to perform to a
much more mature
audience. As the scene
is new, the only set-
back that we are fac-
ing is finding new ca-
fés/clubs to perform
as the owners are re-
luctant but they’re
warming up to it.
MAYANK SINGH
We faced rapid growth in the
Comedy scene after the pan-
demic. Earlier in 2018, there
were few comics (2-3) who used
to do mics regularly
. Those
mics were organised by basical-
ly poets. We used to perform in
poetry open mics. Sooner we re-
alised that we need a separate
space to grow comedy culture.
So, we decided to curate sepa-
rate comedy mics in Lucknow.
Started with Mr James(near
Engineering college crossing)
and today
, I think we have
around 10 comics we do mics
regularly and 3-4 venues in the
city every weekend. We are
proud to say that we have a ded-
icated space for comedy and po-
etry separately in Our city
named Oneness( near Gudam-
ba thana, Lucknow).

Bada Mangal was celebrated across Lucknow on Tuesday and witnessed Bhandaras in every nook and corner of the city. While offering cold sharbats amidst soaring temperatures provided relief to the pedestrians, the prasad of Puri-Sabzi savoured their taste
buds. Special security arrangements were also made in different areas of the city such as the area nearing the old Hanuman Temple in Aliganj where a large scale fair (Mela) is being organised on Bada Mangal Tuesdays and is attracting people from all parts
of the city. Some localities such as Nishatganj witnessed aarti of larger than life Hanuman idols too, where devotees gathered in large numbers to pray to the deity.

TOP TWEETS BORIS JOHNSON SURVIVES FOR NOW, BUT FOR HOW LONG ritish Prime Minis- ter Boris Johnson survived a no-confi- dence vote against his government but the top Brexit votary found his support within the Conservative Party dwindling. In the vote which Johnson won 211-148 only 59 percent of his MPs voted in his favour. Prime Minister John- son had swept the 2019 election riding on the Brexit wave but alcohol parties which he and his staff hosted at the prime minis- ter’s Downing Street residence during the pandemic dented his image. Scotland Yard found him guilty of hosting his birthday party in breach of Covid rules. He admitted to having paid a fine for the breach for which he publicly apologised. After winning the no-confi- dence vote Boris Johnson called it “Conclusive. Decisive result.” Going by the discontent among Tories it is anything but that. He may not survive in office for long. Conservative lawmakers fear that the 57-year-old prime minister’s authority has been eroded and cite rising prices and looming recession as his inabil- ity to govern. B ith more Muslim countries, 15 of them, expressing their anger over the BJP “fringe” elements’ remarks on Proph- et Muhammad, the ruling party at the Centre finds it- self in a spot. The govern- ment may diplomatically manage the huge backlash, the first of its kind against the BJP, the challenge from within will be harder to han- dle. The fringe elements, who have had an unbridled run so far, are not happy with the suspension of spokesperson Nupur Sharma and the expul- sionof NaveenKumarJindal. On the face of it the action is not too harsh as suspen- sions and expulsions can al- ways be revoked but the trolls find even a soft action against a karykarta inexplicable. They view it as a Hindu gov- ernment succumbing to pres- sure from Islamic countries. And that hurts the Hindu pride, stories of which have been instilled in the minds of trolls since 2014. As #Shame- OnBJP# began trending on Twitter, the BJP must have realised the dangers of creat- ing a Frankenstein monster. Action against a “young Hindu leader” was the least expected and the BJP must be worried about how to douse the anger at home without causing uproar abroad. Interestingly, one Twitter handle went to the extent of imagining Yogi Adityanath as Prime Minis- ter at this juncture. “Dear Hindus, just imagine Yogi Ji as Prime Minister of India.” Sadly, the BJP leadership did not give its troll army any lessons in international relations and why the Gulf Cooperation Council’s pro- tests cannot be ignored. The trolls must bear in mind that India has not apologized for BJP spokespersons’ utter- ances so far. TROLL ARMY STANDS BY NUPUR SHARMA Action against a “young Hindu leader” was the least expected and the BJP must be worried about how to douse the anger at home without causing uproar abroad. Interestingly, one Twitter handle went to the extent of imagining Yogi Adityanath as Prime Minister at this juncture. “Dear Hindus, just imagine Yogi Ji as Prime Minister of India” W Performers will be in a ‘trance’, we need to understand their pain hisweek,Ishiftfromtheusual politicaldiscussionandanaly- sis and would like to concen- trateonthelittlethingswhich we usually don’t do on time and think all will be fine… but it doesn’t happen that way! Every incident should serve as an eye opener and we should actually learn from the lapses and see that we NEVER repeat our act to botch up things. Almost seven days after the untimely demise of KK in Kolkata, the air is still heavy and everyone feels that there was so much that could be done to try and save him. Performers will be per- formers… they remain in a trance and their ultimate aim is to give their best shot and there are several instances when they (performers) be singers or players have not cared about their health but have gone that extra mile to give their best! Even on that fateful night when the disturbing videos which have gone viral have shown that KK was profusely sweating and had even asked the organisers to switch off some lights as he was “actu- ally feeling the heat”, but like a true performer, he never called it quits. It is actually the people as- sociated with these true pro- fessionals who should treat them delicately and try to be more understanding as these stars remain in a trance while they perform. SAMPLE THIS… In May 2002, when India took on West Indies in the fourth Test of a series… on the third day of the Test, Anil Kumble while batting was struck hard under his left jaw, rat- tling him and Team India. However, after being attend- ed to by team physio Andrew Leipus, Kumble spat blood but strapped his helmet back and took guard again! Mervyn Dillon sent in a few more short ones and Kumble who was already writhing in pain fended one to Chanderpaul. Kumble was rushed to the hospital but the first X-ray revealed nothing. The next morning when he told Leipus that the pain was too much. Another X-ray revealed that the jaw had a crack and was moving on its own! Kumble didn’t want to get the surgery done in the West Indies and was set to leave for India in the evening. With Kumble gone and In- dia hamstrung in the bowling department, captain Sourav Ganguly decided to bat on. Finally, when West Indies were put in to bat, there was still some juice in the pitch. With Kumble sidelined, Sachin Tendulkar was forced to wage the battle. That’s when Kumble shocked the entire cricketing world! Kumble got physio Andrew Leipus to bandage his face and turned up to do his duty for India! Kumble bowled in excruciating pain. But then Kumble being Kumble… he flummoxed Lara in his fourth over when hetrappedtheLegendplumb. By then, Kumble’s face was swelling. Later when asked why he decided to come back, he said: “I didn’t want to sit around.” The all-time great Viv Richards had said, “It was one of the bravest things I’ve seen on the field of play .” We must not just appreci- ate, laud, hail and salute such deeds but also understand that after all they are humans and need care too. That crucial hour on that fateful day after the show was wasted, many felt. All of us got to see how fatigued KK looked when he was being rushed out after the show. Doctors and medical ex- perts have come down heavily on the fact that while he could have been wheeled out of the auditorium, whywashemade to walk briskly after such a hectic show. And surprising- ly, despite having quite a few hospitals in the vicinity , why didn’t his support team and the organisers insist on giv- ing him medical care. We need to give performers that conducive atmosphere, the medical attention and full care waiting in tow and an understanding support staff. Spectators and audience sometimes fail to realise that the performers can falter and they need to be given that space and here the organisers should play a huge role in fa- cilitating the performer… the organisers must realise that by simply booking a show they can’t force or ask a per- son to perform in conditions with three times more the crowd and from time to time they also need to check if the performer is comfortable. Today, KK is not with us, but have we learnt anything from this… are we better or- ganisers or better specta- tors… or are we still that sav- age lot asking for more! THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY THE AUTHOR ARE PERSONAL T In May 2002, when India took on West Indies in the fourth Test of a series… on the third day of the Test, Anil Kumble while batting was struck hard under his left jaw, rattling him and Team India. Many leaders within the party are uncomfortable with this decision as they be- lieve that being escapist will have a further ad- verse effect on the mo- rale of the already de- pressed workers, and will also weaken the or- ganization of the Con- gress in these seats. Significantly, while announcing the skip- ping of the by-elections, the Congress party rea- soned that party recon- struction is important first in order to present itself as a strong alter- native in the Lok Sabha elections to be held in 2024. However, a section of the party is deeply hurt by the decision not to contest the elections. A state Congress official said on the condition of anonymity that in the recent Navsankalp Workshop held in Luc- know, Priyanka Gandhi had exhorted the work- ers not to be disheart- ened, to work with “dou- bleenergy”untilvictory is achieved. He raised the question that when the party does not con- test the elections, then fromwhereandhowwill the victory be secured. Politicalobserversinsist that the Congress’s vote- base has not been com- pletely nil in the bypoll seats. In 2014, Congress candidate Arvind Jaiswal, who contested against Mulayam Singh Yadav in Azamgarh, got a total of 17 thousand votes i.e. 1.9 percent of the total votes. In the 2009 LS elections, Con- gress got 31 thousand (4.4%) votes. First India Bureau Lucknow: Minister Sanjay Nishad has land- ed himself in a contro- versy by covering up a statue of Dr Ram Mano- har Lohia, installed in his official residence at Vikramaditya Marg. The house was earlier allotted to Lohia Trust and Samajwadis had in- stalled the life-size stat- ue in the front garden. Nishad was recently al- lotted the house and he has now got the statue covered with a plywood box painted in red and green. The covering up of the statue has drawn strong protests from Sa- majwadi Party which sees it as an insult to their ideologue. “What else can you expect from a government that has no respect for the Con- stitution, our leaders and ideologues. What is surprising is that PM Modi and CM Yogi have praised Dr Lohia and cited his ideology, but this minister shows ut- ter disregard for Lohia,” said SP spokesman An- urag Bhadauria. The various aspects of devising a specific strategy for promoting exports. Discussions were held to explore the possibilities of bilateral trade between UP and Japan in handicraft, food, electronics, appar- el, carpet etc. from India to Japan were discussed during the meeting. First India Bureau Lucknow: UP RERA, in a meeting held under the chairmanship of Rajive Kumar on Tues- day reviewed the status of compliance of its or- ders by the promoters. The meeting was at- tended by its members Kalpana Misra, Bhanu Pratap Singh, Secretary Rajesh Kumar and se- nior officers. The Authority noted with displeasure that some of the promoters have indulged in non-compliance of its orders besides the Au- thority granting them sufficient time for the same. The Authority is making constant efforts to ensure enforcement of itsordersandprovide speedy justice to the agreed allottees. The ac- tion of penalty against the guilty promoters is an important step to- wards compelling them to comply with the or- ders of the Authority . Taking the above facts in to account, the Authority decided to impose appropriate penalty against the pro- moters to ensure com- pliance of its orders and protect the inter- ests of the home buyers. The Authority, using its powers under section 38/63 of the RERA Act which empowers it to penalise the non-com- pliant promoters with up to 5% of the cost of the project, decided to impose penalty against the promoters. The Authority fur- ther directed the pro- moters to submit the compliance report of its orders within 15 days and deposit the amount of penalty within 30 days, otherwise the amount of penalty shall be recovered as arrears of land revenue. First India Bureau Lucknow: The Azamgarh Lok Sabha seat is set to witness a triangular contest as BJP, Samajwadi Party and BSP have joined the fray in the byelec- tion to be held on June 23. The Congress has decided not to contest the elections at both places- Azamgarh and Rampur. While direct contest between the BJP and SP is on the cards in Rampur, Azamgarh battle has become in- teresting with two Ya- davs-SP’s Dharmendra Yadav cousin of Akh- ilesh Yadav and BJP’s Dinesh Lal Yadav “Nirahua” have been making determined ef- forts to win over the community’s vote, which is in dominant position. The BSP, while refraining from joining contest in Ram- pur, has fielded a formi- dable candidate Shah Alam alias Guddu Ja- mali with the hope to make dent into SP’s Muslim electorate. Guddu Jamali, who was expelled from BSP before UP Assembly elections, had contest- ed assembly election on AIMIM ticket and suc- ceeded in garnering around 35000 votes of Muslim community. Interestingly on the last day of nomination on June 6 the SP had announced candida- ture of Dharmendra Yadav from Azamgarh as earlier the name of Dimple Yadav wife of Akhilesh Yadav was in circulation. Earlier the SP announced the name of a dalit leader Shushil Kumar. But he withdrew from the fray paving way for Dhar- mendra Yadav to file nomination papers. Azamgarh had been a strong bastion of SP as Mulayam Singh Ya- dav won this seat in 2014 and in 2019 Lok Sabha election Akh- ilesh Yadav retained it. In 2022 assembly elec- tions SP had won in all ten assembly segments in the district. The bye- lection has been neces- sitated following the resignation of Akh- ilesh Yadav from this seat after his victory from Karhal (Mainpu- ri) in assembly elec- tion. Even as the SP has been trying to keep control over the seat, BJP, with an eye on 2024 Lok Sabha elec- tions, has launched hectic efforts to make inroads in SP citadel as saffron juggernaut was stopped in Azamgarh both in 2019 and 2022 elections. While BJP is hoping to wean away a sub- stantial chunk of Ya- dav vote and wrest seat from SP with the sup- port of other backward communities and up- per castes, the SP is largely banking on for- midable combination Yadav-Muslim to main- tain lead. But the BSP, which was ahead of all the party in announcing the candidature of Guddu Jamali is look- ing to divide Muslim votes. BJP, betting on Bhojpuri singer “Nira- hua,” has veered round to the view division in Yadav and Muslim votes would help the party in the elections. However in view of past records even in ad- versities the SP leaders are confident of retain the base. People were so fascinated by his art- works that they start- ed comparing him with aliens. They had started raising ques- tions like ‘Leonardo Da Vinci’s mysteri- ous disappearance be evidence of an alien encounter?’ They be- lieved that his mas- terfulpaintings,high- ly technical hand- drawn sketches and private journals re- veal knowledge of otherworldly technol- ogy and extraterres- trial beings. Because of his visionary arts, which were beyond time and science, somecalledhimama- gician, some de- scribed him as God! Let’s take a look at what science has to say about geniuses. When National Geo- graphic caught Isaac- son by his phone at his home in Washing- ton, DC, he explained why Monalisa’s grin represents the con- clusion of a lifetime of investigation, why Michelangelo and Leonardocouldn’ttol- erate each other, and whyLeonardo’sdefin- ing attribute was cu- riosity . We have to start with the most famous and mysterious smile in the world. Where does the “Monalisa” fitintoLeonardo’slife and work—and how has she managed to enchant us for 500 years? The Monali- sa’s beautiful smile is the fruition of a life- time spent studying art, science, optics and every other pos- sible field to that he could apply his curi- osity, including un- derstanding the uni- verse and how we fit into it. Leonardo spent many pages in his notebook scruti- nising the human face to figure out eve- ry muscle and nerve that touched the lips. One finite example wasseeninthosepag- es, you see a faint sketch at the top of the beginning of the smile of the Monali- sa. Leonardo kept that painting from 1503, from the time it starts to his deathbed in 1519, trying to get every aspect exactly right in layer after layer! During that pe- riod, he dissected the human eye on cadav- ers and was able to understand that the centre of the retina sees detail, but the edges see shadows and shape better. Leonardo tried ex- plaininghisemotions in that favourite painting of his, if we look straight at the Monalisa’s smile, the corners of her lips turn downward slightly, but shadows and light make it appear like it’s turn- ing upwards. The beauty of the paint- ing is when you move your eyes across her face the smile will flicker on and off. He had tried his magical hands to depict the inner feeling the lady is holding. Not only this, he carried his notebook around as he walked through Florence or Milan and always sketched people’s expressions and emotions and tried to relate that to the inner feelings they had and a clear picture can be seen in his “The Last Sup- per.” Even after at- tending to perfection in portraying emo- tionshisunbelievable “Monalisa” is still the culmination because the emotions that she’s expressing, just like her smile, are a bit elusive. Every time you look at her it seems slightly differ- ent. It tries to depict the inner emotions. His ‘the most spell- binding narrative painting in history - The Last Supper’ takeusinsideitscrea- tion and explain why it is such a ultimate workof art.TheDuke of Milanaskedhimto paint it on the wall of a dining hall of a monastery . Unlike other depictions of “The Last Supper,” Leonardo doesn’t just captureamomentbut he understood that there is no such thing as a disconnected in- stant of time. He re- written the trance of motion in the paint- ing and created ‘The Last Supper’ a dra- matic narrative. As wewalkinthedoorof vision, weseeChrist’s hand then, going up the arm, stare at his face. He’s saying, “One of you shall be- tray me.” As our eyes move across the pic- ture, we see that soundalmostrippling outward as each of thegroupsof apostles reacts. In the Book of Matthew, Jesus says that the one who dipped his hand into the bowl with him is the “betrayer”. Also Vinci had those at the table sitting in a pat- tern:33133,mightbea numerological mes- sage and considering this, Vinci ignored convention in his creation by not plac- inghalosaboveJesus. Many art historians believe that Vinci believed in nature, not in God. L UTTKARSHA SHEKHAR uttkarsha.shekhar@firstindia.co.in
  • 12. ETC www.firstindia.co.in I www.firstindia.co.in/epapers/lucknow I twitter.com/thefirstindia I facebook.com/thefirstindia I instagram.com/thefirstindia LUCKNOW | WEDNESDAY, JUNE 8, 2022 11 lowers are without a doubt one of the most photographed subjects. It isn’t hard to see why, we are surrounded by them, and their wide range of colours, shapes, and sizes means that you rarely have to venture far before you find one that catches your eye. Unfortunately, many people make fundamental er- rors when photographing flow- ers. This can result in shots that lack “punch”, appearing much less interesting and vibrant than they did in person. There are several principles that you can follow to give your flower photos more impact, capturing lots of detail and making them engaging to the viewer. By learning these guidelines, you’ll be able to spot an underwhelm- ing photo before you capture it, and reframe the shot in a more interesting way . POSITION FLOWERS INTO YOUR FOREGROUND One of the easiest, most impact- ful ways to add fresh flowers into your images is to add them to the foreground of your image. Add- ing flowers into the foreground adds another dimension to the photo you’re creating. Doing this will blur the flowers, yet keep the person you’re photographing in focus. Focus on the subject’s eyes, and voilà, your camera will do the rest. USE FLOWERS TO CONCEAL PART OF YOUR SUBJECT’S FACE Rather than concealing part of the frame, try using a flower to conceal part of your subject’s face. Whether it’s your model holding the stem of a beautiful peony covering one of her eyes, or carefully placing dai- sies on the back of your mod- el’s head, try using a flower to leave something to be discov- ered in your image. FLOWER POWER MEETS WILD CHILD If you’re shooting with a model that has long hair, you’re in luck! This can be a really beauti- ful way to create festival-vibe photos. Using small flowers or petals like baby’s breath, dai- sies, or elderflower take the flowers and start pulling the fluff into your hand until it’s in tiny pieces. Once it’s in tiny pieces, depending on the size, you can either place the flowers carefully in your model’s hair or gently drop them on top of your model’s hair. One look is more staged, and one more natural, best suited for wildflowers. CREATING FLORAL BACKDROPS IN STUDIO SPACES If you have a ton of flowers, you can easily create a flower wall to provide an impactful back- drop for your image. But, if you don’t have the time or the ener- gy to create a full floral back- drop, you can carefully place flowers on the ground and have your subject lie in them. GET INSPIRED BY ART FOR CREATIVE FLOWER PORTRAIT PROJECTS Pick a flower that inspires you, or one that can be easily found in your geographical area, and create a series of portraits around that flower. You’d be surprised by how creative you can get when you open your im- agination. FEEL THE FEEL THE FLOWER FLOWER POWER POWER SHUBHANSHI PATHAK cityfirst@firstindia.co.in F

The culture of a comedic performance to a live audience has grown tremendously over the past few years and thanks to millennials and Gen-Z it’s thriving via the social media platforms. And while the industry is still warming up to the crowd of Lucknow, City First asked standup comedians and man- agers about its developments of chuckle clubs. MONICA PRABHAKAR cityfirst@firstindia.co.in I SATISHSRIV ASTA V A A Standup comic talked about comedy culture in Lucknow, and said, “The city of Nawabs is carved with beautiful culture and a rich tradition of literature, music, and comedy giving many popular comedy art- ists to the world, like Raju Srivastava, Varun Grover, Kaka Hathrasi, K.P. Saxena. However, despite comedy be- ing part of daily conversa- tion and giving birth to so many great comic artists, the capital city lacked a proper platform for budding comics until now. Today, lo- cal comics are being invited to do opening acts in the shows of celebrity comics, and also to perform in pri- vate and corporate events. SAMIR AHMED, The Lucknow comedy scene is growing and establishing itself in the city. It was initial- ly started in the cafés that were not high-end but located near col- leges so that we could have a young crowd. Recently we have tapped in on the more prominent locations of Lucknow enabling us to perform to a much more mature audience. As the scene is new, the only set- back that we are fac- ing is finding new ca- fés/clubs to perform as the owners are re- luctant but they’re warming up to it. MAYANK SINGH We faced rapid growth in the Comedy scene after the pan- demic. Earlier in 2018, there were few comics (2-3) who used to do mics regularly . Those mics were organised by basical- ly poets. We used to perform in poetry open mics. Sooner we re- alised that we need a separate space to grow comedy culture. So, we decided to curate sepa- rate comedy mics in Lucknow. Started with Mr James(near Engineering college crossing) and today , I think we have around 10 comics we do mics regularly and 3-4 venues in the city every weekend. We are proud to say that we have a ded- icated space for comedy and po- etry separately in Our city named Oneness( near Gudam- ba thana, Lucknow).
