Learning aims:
During this lesson, learners will be able to…
- Learn new vocabulary about insects and bugs in English.
- Develop knowledge through socioconstructivism
Learning focus:
- Vocabulary related to Insect and bugs: ant, bee, butterfly, and
ladybug.
Revise old vocabulary related to colors.
Integration of skills:
- Linguistic skills. They will focus their attention in order to
understand what the teacher say.
- Creativity thought painting
- Respect their peers when it is not their turn.
Multiple intelligences:
Linguistic Intelligence. Children will listen to the teacher while
she is talking about insects
Naturalistic Intelligence. They will learn different things about
insects.
2. Bodily kinesthetic intelligence. They will be able to coordinate
when playing with the dice.
Materials and resources:
Flashcards about insects:
The dice will have the same images. Two of the insects will be
repeated to have the 6 parts of the dime completed.
Students will also paint the next image
3. Possible contingencies:
Since it is our last class, as a goodbye gift I am going to give them
a ‘’bon o bon’’. One of the possible contingencies is that they
would want to eat it right away. To avoid this, I am going to give it
to them at the end of the class after they paint the butterfly.
- Students speaking at the same time as the teacher
- Students shouting more than they should.
-They could get distracted with each other.
Classroom management strategies:
- Explain everything as clear as possible
- Make them sit while the teacher is speaking.
- Tell them that we do not have to shout because our throat can get
hurt.
- Ask them to ‘’close their mouth with a zipper and turn up the volume
of their ears’’ while pretend to do it with our hands.
Lesson stages:
Lead-in & Presentation
To start, I will welcome the students to the class. I will wait for them to
get ready and when they are, I will invite them to sit on the floor right in
front of me so we can have a chat all together.
Development of the sequence of activities
I will start the class by asking if they remember last class when we saw
the Old Macdonald farm: Today we are going to continue with some
animals, but these are different! They are insects.
I will ask them if they know some insects:
Can you tell me any insects? My favorite is the butterfly! They have
so many colors. What is your favorite?
They will answer in Spanish, but this will introduce the students to the
vocabulary.
I will take out the flashcards and show every insect one by one. Since
the students are acquaintance with the colors, it will help to revised old
vocabulary.

4. I will make questions such as: What color is this? Red! Very good. This
is A ladybug!
After doing this a few times and making sure they could pick up some
words. I am going to invite them to play a game with a dice!
The game consists on throwing the dice, and depending on which insect
comes out, they have to say the name very loud in English. Partners can
help if they do not remember the name. Every student will have an
opportunity to do it.
At the end, I am going to give each student a photo of a butterfly so they
can paint it. They love painting.
Closure
After they paint it, I am going to give each one a bon o bon. They can
take it home or eat it with the tea if the teacher allows them. I am going
to say goodbye to them and thank them for their attention and the love
they all showed me from the very beginning. I loved working with them.

Observations Dear Fernanda,
Few adjustments were made to this lesson plan. Remember that teaching through a
meaningful context creates a bigger impact on the learners since they can relate the
new knowledge to their previous knowledge, and even relate affectively with the
topic.
If you had decided to teach bugs through a story, for instance, your teaching could
be maximized.
Please, consider this for future pedagogical experiences.
