To Whom It May Concern:
During the past two years, I have had the opportunity to work with Ms. Felicia Warfield
in a number of capacities. As an eager young student in my Introduction to Journalism
and Public Relations class, Felicia made herself known to me immediately. She asked
intelligent questions. She worked hard, always seeking feedback and striving to improve.
More than that, she pushed others around her to work harder, setting the bar high for her
classmates and refusing to be associated with anything but the best work.
That kind of dedication could have made her seem unlikeable to her classmates.
However, nothing could be further from the truth. Her intelligence is matched only by her
diplomacy. I have watched her cope with several stressful, tense situations during the past
couple of years, and she never shirks from the challenge. One of her greatest skills is
recognizing what people need – whether it is reinforcement, praise or just plain loyalty.
She delivers it all, and her classmates, teachers, subordinates and friends always know
they can count of her.
Her leadership skills really shined through when she took a major leap of faith in the
spring of 2014. I advise Salisbury University’s chapter of the Society of Professional
Journalists, and we were facing a real leadership crisis. There was no communication,
and little was being accomplished. In the face of this adversity, it looked as though we
might not survive another year.
Most students would run away screaming from a challenge like this. Felicia viewed it as
an opportunity to do something great. Knowing little about what would be expected of
her, Felicia stepped in from being a non-member to assuming the role of president for the
2014-15 school year. She rallied a group of virtual strangers around her as her executive
board, but each of them would be the first to tell you they became much more than that.
Thanks to Felicia, this group became a family, and what they were able to accomplish
together is nothing short of a miracle.
Under Felicia’s direction, we saw a record number of students turn out for every meeting.
Meetings featured fascinating speakers and workshops, all of which were successful at
helping members network and learn more about the media business. We also took the
largest-ever student contingent to the SPJ regional conference in March – a feat that
would not have been possible without Felicia’s leadership skills.
In spite of all these phenomenal achievements, I would say her greatest will be her
legacy. Although she is graduating, Felicia is leaving us with a new group of well-
trained, enthusiastic officers, who have basked in her example all year long. They know
2. they have big shoes to fill, and I am confident they will because they have learned from
the best.
I also had the pleasure of taking Felicia to Scotland as part of our winter study abroad
program. While overseas, Felicia conducted herself with a sense of decorum and
professionalism that well surpasses her years. Her final project – a documentary
examining communication, culture and identity in the country – was far and away one of
the finest I have seen.
It is also worth noting that Felicia was inducted into the Omicron Delta Kappa society – a
national honor society for the top one percent of campus leaders. This is no easy feat, but
with her track record of success, it certainly was no surprise. Felicia joined the most elite
of Salisbury University’s leaders, and continues to shine in that capacity.
I have grown quite reliant on Felicia in these past couple of years. She epitomizes what a
learner and leader can and should be. We will miss her terribly as a student here at
Salisbury University, but I am confident she will do great things. Felicia has a lot to be
proud of, and she certainly has made us proud. I know whatever job she considers in the
future, she will continue to uphold the high standards she set for herself as both a scholar
and a person.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call. Should you consider Felicia for a
position with your organization, I know you will not be disappointed.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Cox
