This presentation contains the Operations and Maintenance Practices of the Water Supply System in Rajshahi City Corporation. The survey and information gathering project was completed by a group of final year student of Civil Engineering department of Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET). 3. Rajshahi is a divisional city situated in the northwest region on the bank of the river
Padma. It is one of the largest cities in Bangladesh, so the population is increasing
rapidly.
To meet the requirement of the city dwellers the government is providing water
supply to the households. Rajshahi WASA is currently responsible for the supply of
potable water inside the city corporation area.

6. ▪ Currently Rajshahi WASA serves as the only authority to supply water in Rajshahi
City Corporation Area.
▪ Rajshahi WASA has divided the whole city corporation area into three zones for the
convenience of water supply.

7. ▪ A large number of manpower is engaged in this water supply program. Rajshahi
WASA has listed the whole organogram on its website. Most of them are engaged
in the operation, distribution, and maintenance sectors.

13. ▪ Storage of water: When water is not available, the people store it in their personal
drums in their homes and use it when necessary.
▪ Flow of water: The flow of water is normal all the time. But it reduces mostly in the
afternoon.
▪ Water for drinking purposes: Most of the families bring water for drinking
purposes from the tube well situated nearby while some drink the water that is
supplied.

16. ▪ Quality of water: The quality of water is satisfactory, though it contains iron
sometimes.
▪ Maintenance: When they face any sort of problem, they repair it by themselves
rather than informing the people who are engaged in the maintenance program.
▪ Level of satisfaction: People are somewhat satisfied with the service and quality
of water they receive. But they think that the quality should be better with
continuous supply throughout the day.
