This document discusses using FIWARE to enable data sovereignty in manufacturing. It describes a use case where milling machines and coordinate measuring machines (CMM) in a factory share operational data to enable predictive maintenance and zero defects. The FIWARE platform allows the machines to break information silos by sharing select data between manufacturers in a controlled manner. This helps machines improve configurations and maintenance by leveraging each other's data, bringing better service to the factory. Data sovereignty is ensured as manufacturers control what data is shared and how it is used.

§ Most manufacturing plans incorporate two types of machines in the production chain:
• Milling machines, producing objects by means of using rotary cutters to remove material from a
workpiece of raw material
• Coordinate-Measuring Machines (CMM), for measuring the physical geometrical characteristics
of manufactured objects in order to detect defects, etc.

10. Use Case: Zero break-down / Zero defects manufacturing: benefits
§ Each machine could improve its configuration and maintenance by means of
using data produced by the other machines, bringing overall a better service to
its customer (the Factory):
• Data produced by the CMM could be useful for improving predictive maintenance
of the milling machine (e.g., identify that the milling machine is about to start
producing relevant defects so better to plan certain maintenance task)
• Data produced by the milling machine could be useful for improving CMM
recommended actions (e.g. what has to be reconfigured in the milling machine to
sustain qualiry of manufactured components)
§ The Factory are guaranteed that:
• the manufacturer of the machines it has deployed only uses certain data from
measurements it decides
• such data is used only for defined purposes (e.g., improve maintenance)
• data from the company will not be disclosed to other competitors by the
manufacturer of the machine
§ Machine manufacturers are guaranteed that only data they license under
certain terms and conditions will be used by machine manufacturers which are
capable to certify they will comply with the defined terms and conditions
