EGAP I:
Pilates method
The pilates method was created by Joseph Pilates, who combined
exercise/movement, philosophy, gymnastics, martial arts, yoga, with mind/thoughts
into an approach for healthy living.
Pilates uses a systematic practice of specific exercises designed to stretch,
strengthen and balance the body.
Pilates can be used alone, by itself, or in conjunction with sport training,
rehabilitation and dance.
Pilates is also important to give peace to the spirit when you have a problem. Many
psychologists advice this method to restore the soul and body at unison.
There are two types of Pilates
Mat work: In this method, all the work is on the floor.
Reformer: The exercises are in a sliding bed-like apparatus.
Principles:
This program of mind-body exercise is based on 6 key principles: centering,
concentration, control, precision, flow, and breath.

2. EGAP II:
¿Can people with postural problems practice pilates?
My name is Evelyn Araujo. My last presentation was about the Pilates method I
talked about the different types of pilates, and the benefits.
Pilates have a a lot of good benefits. But, Can everybody practice pilates?
The classes are particularly good for back problems because the exercises
strengthen the muscles that support the spine. But there are a few investigations
which shows that pilates can be dangerous for people with scoliosis .
The increased pressure and strain of the exercises can aggravate the weakened
spine, causing the disc to rupture, and pressing on the nerve.
The damage could be so extensive that the only way for round it is surgery to trim
the disc.
In this days, doctors seeing an increasing number of patients who have muscular
strains or aggravated degenerate discs after attending Pilates classes because
they thought it would help with their back problems,’
Pilates is a very good rehabilitation method but if exercises are carried out
incorrectly they can weaken the back and cause existing conditions to deteriorate.
