Microsoft recently released the new office 365 software. It is packaged with all the in-
house Microsoft office services and some extra business enabling services. It is cloud based
and on subscription basis.. It enables the user to easily access, edit, and share files from any
device; you can get work done in the office and on the go, online or offline.
Office 365, though cloud based, Does not require online Internet connection to work. It
requires Internet connection for the first installation and once every month, connects to
cloud to ensure the subscription is still active. So in summary, your experience will be
almost exactly like installing disc based Office 2010, 2013, etc. Where you can run Office in
areas with no internet connectivity.

1) Office Online
Office 365 provides a suite of cloud-based applications to complement and enhance the
Office desktop client experience.
 SharePoint Online.
Instead of deploying and managing SharePoint internally, SharePoint Online gives
you a complete hosted SharePoint experience. You and your business users have
anywhere access to the rich collaboration, information management and business
intelligence capabilities of SharePoint.
SharePoint Online gives you access to sites for:

Through SharePoint Online, A user has access to Microsoft Office client applications which

Documents can be retrieved using SharePoint Online via the Web, and can also be shared
with others within or outside the organization using granular permissions controls.
Share point enables simultaneous coauthoring and collaboration on documents in real
time. This eliminates the need to constantly e-mail version updates, and also eliminates
error resulting from version overwrites.
2) Real-Time Communications
Office 365 provides a robust, hosted communications infrastructure, using Exchange Online
and Lync Online. Exchange Online and Lync Online provides e-mail, calendar, contacts and
tasks infrastructure, as well as the complete functionality of an internal Exchange
deployment, including presence information, publishing free/busy data, and MailTips.
Exchange Online has a feature; Exchange ActiveSync . It enable the user to synchronize
services from full Outlook desktop client, the Outlook Web and mobile devices.
Mobile devices supported: Windows Phone, Palm devices, iPhone and iPad, and some
specific Android phones. Exchange Online supports BlackBerry devices on certain plans.
This level of cross-platform compatibility ensures our client has anywhere, anytime access

Lync Online gives our client anywhere, anytime communications across instant messaging,
audio and video calling, online meetings and Web conferences. A customer can move
seamlessly between instant messaging conversations and online meetings; conduct online
presentations to customers or partners using audio, video and screen sharing; invite
external contacts to participate in online meetings; and view presence status of other users
within Lync and other Office applications.
Both Exchange Online and Lync Online support a coexistence deployment model. This
facilitates integrating in-house and hosted services. Coexistence gives you the flexibility to
migrate to cloud-based services at your own pace. You can keep some users on internally
hosted servers, while migrating other users to Office 365

 24-hour monitoring of data centers.
 Multi-factor authentication, including biometric scanning for data center access.
 Internal data center network is segregated from the external network.
 Role separation renders location of specific customer data unintelligible to the
personnel that have physical access.
 Faulty drives and hardware are demagnetized and destroyed.
Logical security
I. Lock box processes for strictly supervised escalation process greatly limits human access to
your data.
II. Servers run only processes on whitelist, minimizing risk from malicious code.
III. Dedicated threat management teams proactively anticipate, prevent, and mitigate malicious
access.
IV. Port scanning, perimeter vulnerability scanning, and intrusion detection prevent or detect
any malicious access.
Data security
I. Encryption at rest protects your data on our servers.
II. Encryption in transit with SSL/TLS protects your data transmitted between you and
Microsoft.
III. Threat management, security monitoring, and file/data integrity prevents or detects
any tampering of data.
Admin and user Account control
I. Rights Management Services prevents file-level access without the right user
credentials.

III. Office 365 Message Encryption allows you to send encrypted email to anyone.
IV. Data loss prevention prevents sensitive data from leaking either inside or outside
the organization.
V. Data loss prevention can be combined with Rights Management and Office 365
Message Encryption to give greater controls to your admins to apply appropriate
policies to protect sensitive data.
4) Provisioning and Administration
With Office 365, a customer pay for what they need on a per-user basis. There are three
subscription tiers available:
 Office 365 for Enterprise,
 Office 365 for Small Business
 Office 365 for Education.
Each delivers the appropriate set of services based on the organization’s size and
requirements. A customer can easily provision new users as they come on board. You can
also manage existing users with an online IT Management Dashboard.

Plus. This features the latest version of Office desktop applications with integrated Office
