The document discusses the use of various new media technologies in the construction, research, planning, and evaluation of a media project. Photoshop and Adobe Premiere Pro were used to edit images and video, while PowerPoint and YouTube helped with planning and research. A video camera, tripod, and LED lighting were also used to film footage. Planning involved creating presentations and a blog, while construction required editing software, and evaluation used presentation tools and a blog to analyze the project.

Evaluation question 4
1. HOW DID YOU USE NEW MEDIA
TECHNOLOGIES IN THE
CONSTRUCTION, RESEARCH
AND PLANNING AND
2. MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES
Media technologies Media technologies consist of many different types of software,
programs, and other forms of digital technology that contribute to the creation of
media texts and supporting material. Examples of media technologies include:
Photo editing software (Photoshop, iPhoto, etc.)
Video editing software (Adobe Premiere, iMovie etc.)
Publishing programs (Microsoft Publisher etc.)
Presentation programs (Microsoft PowerPoint, Prezi etc.)
In addition to those already mentioned, other examples of media technology I
engaged with whilst making my A2 coursework was:
Slideshare (presentation-sharing website)
3. ADOBE PREMIERE
Adobe Premiere Pro is a
timeline-based video editing
software application. It is
part of the Adobe Creative
Suite, a suite of graphic
design, video editing, and
web development
applications developed by
Adobe Systems.
I haven’t had previous
experience with Adobe
before hand therefore the
school put on classes to we
could become familiar with
the programme by the time
we were editing our trailer.
I downloaded the
programme through the
school facilitating it for us
and it enabled me to edit my
teaser trailer at home, as
well using it at school.
Adobe Premiere is the
industry standard for
video editing today.
It is a program that
allows the user to be
very hands on with
images and videos.
Can manipulate the
characteristics of each
frame or picture in
whatever way they feel is
suitable.
Adobe Premiere added a
compress tool that allow
anyone able to design
and create as they see
fit.
4. PRO’S AND CON’S
Pro’s
Edit your work with a sleek,
modern programme, up to
date with modern facilities
Get professional results
with greater editing
precision.
Benefit from a fast and
quick programme that one
understood is easy to use
Cons
Unless explained and
seen on a tutorial can be
confusing to use
Can be a long process if
you're including lots of
different shots and
editing styles.
Its an expensive
programme to run, unlike
cheaper programmes
such a Movie Maker.
5. PHOTOSHOP
Photoshop is a photo-
editing program created
by Adobe. It is used both
professionally and
casually for everything
from magazine covers to
simple family pictures.
The best thing about
Photoshop is it’s wide
range of tools and
features that make it
simple for everyone to
edit images the way they
would like.
I downloaded the
programme through the
school facilitating it for us
and it enabled me to edit
my ancillary text pictures
at home, as well using it
I have had previous
experience with before
hand using during AS
Media Studies when
creating my front
cover, so I got to apply
my knowledge to my
ancillary texts.
It was perfect for
putting together my
magazines front cover,
as the layers feature
allowed me to really
fine-tune the different
parts of the image and
focus on individual
sections.
It helped when
constructing a simple
structure, and then
laying everything on
6. PRO’S AND CON’S
Pros
Ability to have different
layers
can change parts of the
image without accidentally
ruining the whole thing
Tools are easy to use and
very extensive
It adds a professional
element
Allows you to layer images
and add interesting effects
(once you get the hand of it)
Cons
If you’re not careful, you can
end up accidentally deleting
everything
The above is due to the
attention you have to pay to
the layers you are isolating
Can be really confusing if
you haven’t used it before
Has a lot of features that
could be useful but are
difficult to understand
7. POWERPOINT
PowerPoint is created by
Windows and is a program used
for making presentations. I
used it a lot for my planning
and research, due to the fact
that it is an easy and creative
way to display lots of
information. I also transferred
my PowerPoints onto slideshare
so I was able to make it
available to view on my blog.
8. PRO’S AND CON’S
Pros
Easy to use and quick to understand
Lots of themes to choose from
Makes information interesting and
fun to read through
Doesn’t take long to upload in photo
Cons
Can be repetitive, as there are
only a few ways of presenting
text
Not much to work with except
simple slides
9. EQUIPMENT
I eventually got to grips with using a video
camera and tripod whilst filming. I began
with no experience but once I had practised
and became familiar it became easy to use.
The tripod was extremely benefiting as it
secures the camera on to ensure steady and
firm handling. This was extremely important
as some shots would lose effect without a
still frame. The tripod also had features
which allowed us to easily change the
movement and direction of the shot without
making the camera have an unsteady
“wobbling” effect. We managed to produce a
range of shots as the tripod allowed us to
alter the length of the tripod legs; therefore
changing height of shots. The tripod meant
that the production of our trailer was
efficient and professional; the end result of
our shots was much more effective.
I also used LED to light add to some scenes
to create more artificial lighting so the shots
10. PLANNING & RESEARCH
Planning and research started with a checklist given at the beginning of the year, but as
I progressed down the list, I also created an independent blog alongside to add to my
work. I didn’t have to use much ‘advanced’ forms of media technology whilst doing my
planning and research, because all I needed was a way to present my ideas than a way to
change or edit them. I needed different ways to present large amounts of text and
analysis, and so presentation programs were the most important things I needed to find.
PowerPoint was an obvious and classic one, which allowed me to choose different
themes and layouts.
YouTube was an important technology that I used in pre-production. It helped when
doing research on teaser trailers. With YouTube, I was able to watch trailers and to
analyse them and find out their conventions. YouTube is a video sharing and hosting
website. It became a useful tool also when I wanted to import video like my short film
onto the WordPress blog. YouTube is web based and uses the flash video format which
means that it can be turned into a HTML code and therefore be embedded into my blog
which was useful.
YouTube was a great benefit to me and I did not experience any difficulties using it.
To take still images for location shots and other pictures we used our iPhone. It has an
11. CONSTRUCTION AND EVALUATION
For construction, I needed to edit my work. This would involve a lot
more media technology than just presenting m work. I needed to find
things that would be suitable for the fine-tuning and drama that
came with making a video or ancillary text. the classics came to mind
– Photoshop and Final Cut Pro. These were the simplest for me to
use, and the most efficient at editing the video and ancillary texts,
and putting them together from scratch. Evaluation, on the other
hand, required more presentation: much like in planning and
research. I decided to look at the four questions different and see
what I needed the most. for example, questions that required a lot
more text in response would be best presented on Prezi or
PowerPoint, as well as in Blogger post alongside various forms of
evidence and accompanying research.
