Arpanet started its journey
more than four decades ago
with a very limited access for
military purposes.
 1990s usage of internet
skyrocketed and the average
internet user looks almost
exactly the same as the
average television viewer.
 Internet has turned the world
into a global village by
eliminating geographic
distance.

Today there are nearly four billion active internet users.
Having high speed internet connection is compulsory.
Access to The Internet:
What happens on the internet daily:
 Social media gains 840 new users each minute
455,000 Tweets per minute in 2017
 Instagrammers upload over 46 million post every
minute.
 5.2 billion daily Google searches in 2017
 5.75 billion Facebook likes every day.
Digital Devices Used by
Audiences:
 Consumers use different devices
to access to internet such as
smartphones, tablets, desktops
and wearables.
 According to statistics in 2017,
70% of adults accessed the
internet ‘on the go’ using their
mobile phones or smartphones,
up from 66% in 2015 and nearly
doubled the 2011 estimate of
36%.
 Desktop users are 62% and
other mobile devices usage is
18%.
What Consumers Do Online:
 77% consumers state that internet is the first place they look
for information.
 Consumers also use internet to navigate themselves such as
finding the nearest train station or the best restaurant round
them.
 Purchasing is another quarries as well personal reasons like
how to achieve my goals…
What Consumers Buy Online:
 Books and consumers
electronics are leading the
list of what consumers buy
online. However personal
care products and
groceries are the least
purchased online.
Why Consumers Prefer Shopping Online:
 For the reasons above, consumers prefer online
shopping rather than going to stores. As a result of that,
the record-high rate of store closures rocked the retail
industry. This year is expected to spill into 2017, with
more than 3,600 closures already on tap for next year.

 Consumers at different age group, particularly millennials
are influenced by social media in their purchases. Some
product categories work best on social media such as
baby products, furniture, health and wellness products.
The Importance of Online Reviews:
 90% of consumers regularly or occasionally read online
reviews before visiting a business.
 84% of people trust online reviews as much as personal
recommendation.
 92% of users will use a local business if it has at least a
4-star rating.
 86% of people will hesitate to purchase from a business
that has negative online reviews.
 Graph shows that reviews are reliable as much as email
from people you know.

Online Video Consumption:
 Over 500 million people are watching video on Facebook
every day. (Video marketing)
 Internet video traffic will be over 80% of all consumer
internet traffic in 4 years.
 Cisco states that Live Internet video will account for 13%
of the total video traffic.

 Shipping
 Social shopping

content
 Mobile payments
 Omnichannel

The Digital Future:
The technology is bringing up more informed consumers.
Unless businesses manage to keep pace with it, they will
be out of the game. It is compulsory that they give their
costumers seamless experience, unique and compelling
content. The consumers know exactly what they want and
want it NOW. As a business if you can make that happen,
you are the winner.
