4. History Repeats Itself
Now there was a famine in the land,
besides the former famine that was in the
days of Abraham. And Isaac went to Gerar
to Abimelech king of the Philistines.

So Isaac settled in Gerar. When the men
of the place asked him about his wife, he
said, “She is my sister,” for he feared to say,

Stay out of the type of sin. Was probably thinking about going to Egypt. Gerar was his first stop.
Remain in God’s will
Isaac had heard about the promises of God. Now he experiences an encounter with God personally.
Raise your kids to be able to hear from God themselves.

Be obedient- stay out of Egypt and stay in the promised land Sojourn , to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams” (1 Sam. 15:22)
Presence I will be with you- 2 Chronicles 15:2b
The LORD is with you while you are with him. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will forsake you.
Bless you- following God’s direction leads to a blessed life
Inheritance Land- Starts now with Isaac
Establish Covenant – The promises made to his father
Multiply descendants – like the stars of heaven
Universal blessing – Inclusion of the Gentiles
Galatians 3:16 (ESV)
16 Now the promises were made to Abraham and to his offspring. It does not say, “And to offsprings,” referring to many, but referring to one, “And to your offspring,” who is Christ.

Obeyed- when God talked Abraham listened and obeyed
Charge- worship in a fitting way
Commandments- refers to a code of wisdom. God had to tell him
Statutes- living according to God’s principles

I am afraid- fear of the unknown. How do you prepare ?
1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.
Confrontation- bully, controller, situation
1 Peter 4:12 Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you.
I’ll lie consequence. Decisions made from a point of fear are seldom good.
2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test!

God’s will is perpetuated by sin
Genesis 26:10 Abimelech said, “What is this you have done to us? One of the people might easily have lain with your wife, and you would have brought guilt upon us.”
