Because of the Populist politicians, philosophers and other demagogues, we are today engulfed in a tremendous maelstrom of dangerous individualism and selfishness, even the brand-new species of collective selfishness in the form of any group – national, racial, ethnic, sexual, religious – entirely locked up onto themselves and only considering their narrow-minded and mostly blind interest.

2. This book would never have been possible without the encouraging support of two academic
organizations: the International Society of Applied Psycho-Linguistics (ISAPL, Brazil) and the
Ideas Forum International Academic and Scientific Association (IFIASA, Romania). Let them
be thanked here.
Because of the Populist politicians, philosophers and other demagogues, we are today
engulfed in a tremendous maelstrom of dangerous individualism and selfishness, even the brand-
new species of collective selfishness in the form of any group – national, racial, ethnic, sexual,
religious – entirely locked up on themselves and only considering their narrow-minded and mostly
blind interest. In this book I try to follow the thought of some of these ideologues who pretend to
be philosophers, sociologists, anthropologists, or even scientists in physics or chemistry, at times
medicine. I also open and close the book with two recent articles of mine that try to go beyond this
state of affairs and open up some trails or paths to some reasonable and collective future with and
within all our differences.
3. IS THE WORLD CRAZY?
This volume is an extended, comprehensive image of the jungle we are living
in today. We are bombarded daily, nightly, and in any period in-between, with
messages on all sorts of machines, on all kinds of media. These messages are
presented with absolute certainty and vanity as being the truth, meaning the
perfect, accurate, and true image of reality, as being reality itself in the fetishist
way these machines and media excel in pretending and assuming. And be sure
there are architects behind these matrixes and a lot of Mr. Smiths.
If you have diverse sources for your information, machines, access providers,
and media you find in a jiffy that this pretension from most of them, and from the
puppets that speak or appear on them, is an absurdity since in ten minutes you
may find ten different visions and they all pretend to be the truth. The public is
mostly illiterate, as for confronting and reading these machines and these media.
Most people only listen or watch one of these ideological channels characterized
by selective tunnel vision, and they are manipulated through and through, from
end to end, with no escape possible.
We know what it produces. We are still in the midst of the worst possible
media-manipulated ideological campaigns, the worst manipulation of all media by
a few populist politicians in the world and we have just discovered, thanks to the
4. Pandora investigation, that many of these people have been putting aside what
would be their golden retirement if they had to leave the political stage, scaffoldings,
gallows (for others of course, if possible their enemies or challengers who are not
necessarily better).
Donald Trump is the name. He was impeached twice. He was finally defeated
with a seven-million margin of voters against him. Yet he has tried on January 6 to
reverse the election and he nearly succeeded. We have learned since then the
military authorities had decided to block any military initiative on his side if not
actually justified. They even had contacts with China to reassure them that no
military attack was imminent nor envisaged. Yet he still goes around pretending
the election was rigged, and he was the winner. Hundreds of lawsuits, legal
procedures, and court decisions at all levels have been added to the “debate”
5. proving that the dubious votes amounted to something like 0.001%, one in one
hundred thousand votes. Nothing to change the result of the election anywhere.
Even the US Supreme Court has not intervened and couldn’t intervene due to the
dozens of appellate-court decisions taken in the various state courts and federal
courts.
And yet…
Some intellectuals like Marcel Gauchet or Jean-Claude Michéa, or some
movements like the Yellow Vests in France or the anti-vax people all over the world
build up all sorts of discourses and sermons and panegyric oratory jaw-dropping
and jaw-flapping cogitations that have little to do with any “Cogito ergo sum” since
it is only “Rating and raving ergo sum” meaning these people are what they rant
and rave about, pure illusion and delusion trying to give us the illusion of logic and
a close-by apocalypse.
6. When more than 90% of the COVID-19 hospitalized people are unvaccinated
in countries where vaccination has reached over 80% of the population, when
these 90% even go higher for people ending up in Intensive Care Units where
some of them die, we are quite justified to say that vaccination is the best
protection and that the 0.001% or 0.0001% of people who have complications,
including death, because of the vaccination, due to some undetected allergy to the
vaccine itself or a component of it, do not infirm but confirm this efficacity.
And yet…
Enter this book, the way you would enter a forest of redwoods or sequoias if
it is not burning, or even a forest of Douglas pines or oak trees. The richness of
the forest is on the ground more than up in the air. So let yourself be transported,
follow the various lines, read the English or the French, when both are available,
search the internet to find the original articles or books, and of course, Marcel
Gauchet’s retirement seminar that would have been a good, even excellent
twenty- or twenty-five-page article but is here a five hundred page momentous (by
the number of pages) verbose delirium on the end of democracy in and by
democracy itself, his vision of the apocalyptic democracy, or the democratic
7. apocalypse that is no revelation, as the only future of the planet to be imposed
onto everyone and every country, with ONE single final page, if not a paragraph
or couple of sentences, suggesting maybe, perhaps, eventually, if circumstances
permit or change, a slight doubt about it.
We simple human beings have become the slaves of such ideologues who
are only thinking of the selling of their opuses and pamphlets, definitely by the
pound, or, if you prefer the metric system, by the hundred pages. It negates the
whole emerging process of Homo Sapiens over the last 300,000 years and
decides history started in the 18th
century (the famous Declaration of
Independence of the United States, which did not even abolish slavery, or the
French Revolution, though forgetting to say that in this case, the declaration of
human rights is always the declaration of human civic and civil rights) just the same
way as the same ideologues have decided once and for all that civilization started
around 50,000 years ago, at the most 70,000 years ago, when all migrations out
of Black Africa were finished, so that then in such conditions we can finally speak
of serious matters now and keep out of this dark continent that becomes in their
minds a cosmic black hole. AUKUS is so good as a new military alliance among
three English-speaking, white, Christian Anglo-Saxon countries de facto male by
their three leaders. The fourth one who is a woman will not follow, but was she
invited anyway?
