3. OPENING SEQUENCE
• In the opening sequence it shows Mike Lowry (Will Smith) and Marcus Burnett
(Martin Lawrence) driving around the city in Mike’s expensive car whilst
Marcus is busy eating fries and a massive burger. Whilst eating his burger, his
fries drop and creates a mess meaning that Mike had to pullover so that
Marcus can pick all of them up. As that is happening, a very attractive woman
is walking past the car to try and distract them so that at the same they can
get robbed.
4. MISE EN SCENE
• Props – For this scene, as they are mostly in Mike’s car so the props are very limited. In the car Marcus is eating burger, fries
and is drinking a milkshake which is later used as a weapon by throwing it into the bad guys face. Also guns are being used to
try and lure Marcus and Mike out of the car so that they could try and rob them.
• Costume – Most the clothing that you see from all characters are all mainly based on the era of 1995, from one of the robbers
wearing a leather waistcoat with no shirt underneath, the woman wearing a seductive white dress to try and seduce Mike,
Marcus wearing a shirt that is 2-3 sizes bigger than his original size plus Mike and one of the robbers are wearing the same
round shaped sunglasses.
• Lighting – Throughout this whole opening sequence, there is a main colour which is maintained which is the colour orange. I
think the director has used this colour throughout the whole thing because at the beginning of the scene, it is showing the sky
and clouds using the colour orange, it then has a shot of the a river bank and reflecting off it, it is the colour orange. So I think
the director has tried to maintain throughout the whole scene, also, it has low key lighting for the first two minutes until they
get out of the car and it is like the brightness level is turned up.
5. CAMERA
• When the car is being driven, they have a couple still shots and a couple shots of the
cars movement throughout the city.
• E.g. when it first shows the full car, it pans from the front tyre all the way to the front
of the car in a space of seconds.
6. SOUND
• In the beginning of this scene there is a song that is used throughout the
whole of the movie, whenever there is action that song will come on.
• Also there is the sound of the engine from Mike’s car.
7. EDITING
• As most of this scene is in the car, the cuts that are used in this are very quick as they are in a fast
car so they are capture where it looks like there is fast movement e.g. where there is dialogue
between Mike and Marcus, the cuts are happening every time someone speaks and when someone
is not one speaking for a couple of seconds, it cuts to the cars movements throughout the city
