2. This is the magazine advert which
we created for our music video;
the genre of music for our band is
indie/indie pop and therefore we
wanted to follow the conventions
to make sure our product was
appealing for the target audience.
As our advert is representing our
indie band and song we thought it
would be most likely seen in
magazines such as Q and NME
as they are well-known indie
magazines.
3. The name of our band is „Laps
Around The Lake‟; we wanted the
name of our band to be the main
focus of our advert and therefore we
felt it should be placed above
everything at the top of the page. The
font is very simple but is eye catching
as it is quite bold- we didn‟t want to
have a complicated font as we still
want to have some of the focus on
the image and also the album name.
An example of where bold and simple
font has been used is on a magazine
advert of Rhiannas. The font is bold
but not very complicated and is
backed by a black border, this where
our inspiration came from as not only
is the title simple like the her advert
but it has also been placed on its own
at the top with a black background to
help it engage with the audience.
4. The album name is placed at the
right hand side of the page along
with the information about the
music and what the digipak offers.
The font of this text is again
simple but what we aimed to do
was to keep the font consistent
through out the digipak and
magazine and this font worked
well against the font of the band
name. we wanted the magazine to
have a professional and
sophisticated look and so having
simple font like the one used
added this effect.
5. We felt it was really important to
include quotes and star ratings on
our magazine cover. When an
audience sees an advert they like to
know what other people have
thought about it and we thought by
having well-known magazines rate
and comment on the music would be
a good idea so this is what we
included. NME and Q advertise
many indie bands so if the indie
audience see that they have given a
music video a 5 star rating and said
something so positive as “Best
Album of 2013” will make it more
appealing for them and will become
something they want to look in to.
We wanted the yellow stars to stand
out on our magazine and therefore
made them colourful which would
contrast well with the black and
white.
6. “Pre Order Now” is written in big
font across the bottom of the
advert; we felt offering a pre
order option would encourage
the audience into looking at our
band and also purchasing what
they were offering. When there
are quotes such as “Best Album
of 2013” on the advert the
audience will know that the
album will probably be very
quick to sell and have a large
audience interested so also
offering this this pre order option
allows the audience to put in
there order before the album
potentially sells out. We wanted
the option to be clear but not to
take away to focus of the image
and what they were selling and
so that is why the “Pre Order
Now” quote was placed at the
bottom.
7. The image was something which we
wanted to stand out and therefore getting
the lighting and effects correct was
crucial. I had seen on a Rhianna advert
the choice of black and white and it made
the image look powerful and so this was
what we wanted to do with our magazine.
The image was also placed on the rule of
thirds and this was also something we
wanted to use as we felt it captured the
audience attention better especially with
the artist looking down as it let the
audience create an their own image of
the more in depth details. When taking
the photo we ensured that the lights were
focused on the artist so it gave the bright
effect mainly around just the artist to
again bring focus to him. The black and
white effect and the fact that the artist is
looking down was to create a more
mysterious advert which didn‟t reveal to
much about the artist as this was a way
of intriguing the audience.
