7. FIRE CHIEF OUT OF COVERAGE
INTEROPERABILITY USE CASE:
CONNECTIVITY
Fire Chief out-of-town when large storm causes major flooding,
requiring department-wide effort to rescue and evacuate residents.
LMR interoperability and broadband PTT allow the Chief to use his
smartphone to communicate directly with Battalion Chiefs and
other front line commanders.
A much more efficient and effective response, with the Chief helping
to coordinate unit assignments and providing updates on resources
coming from other departments.
The Chief is out of coverage of the LMR network but still needs to
communicate with front-line personnel on radios to help coordinate
search and rescue efforts.

8. CITY LMR CRISIS SURVIVABILITY
INTEROPERABILITY USE CASE:
REDUNDANCY
A major city is frequented by strong weather patterns, including
tornados, hail, and damaging winds that often severely disrupt
LMR and commercial communications.
LMR interoperability and broadband PTT allow city and public
safety personnel to remain connected with the dispatchers and
colleagues on the LMR network.
Extensive carrier resources enable broadband PTT service to be
restored quickly. City personnel in areas without LMR coverage
remain connected.
Provide consistent and/or fast-restored communications to city
dispatchers, personnel, and public safety after storms damage LMR
network antennas and reduce coverage.
