The document discusses how the author used, developed, and challenged elements from various sources they researched for a magazine cover, movie poster, and trailer. For the magazine cover, they used a similar shot type and layout as the research material but developed a non-flat design. For the poster, they used elements like the background and title placement but challenged the shot type and purpose of empty space. For the trailer, they used ideas like two female protagonists and an over-the-shoulder shot but developed the horror stereotypes and challenged how fear and the beginning are portrayed.
2. USE
I have used a few
things on my
magazine cover
similar to the
one I researched;
a similar shot
type, the title
shown large
towards the
bottom of the
page and a
barcode in the
bottom left
corner.
3. DEVELOP
There are a few
things I
developed on
from their
magazine; my
title has a drop
shadow, looks
less flat, which is
the same with
the title at the
bottom, their
whole page looks
flat, which I
noticed and
made sure I
didn’t do.
4. CHALLENGE
There are a few
things from their
magazine that I
challenged;
similar to theirs I
included a
coverline with a
quote which
related to the
feature film, but
rather than leave
a large space like
they did I
‘challenged’ this
because I think it
looks better with
coverlines.
5. USE
I have used
some elements
from the poster
that I
researched in
my own; the
background,
clouds, the title
placement and
colour scheme,
and the film
credits.
6. DEVELOP
As well as using
some of theirs I
also developed
on some
aspects, I show
when its
released rather
than empty
space,
7. CHALLENGE
Similar to the
magazine I
challenged some
elements on the
poster; the
similar shot type
but different
colour / light, I
show my
background
similar to theirs
but for different
reasons.
8. USE
Here we have used an idea from the trailer “Amusement” we used the
idea of having two females as the main characters and that is because
they are stereotypically vulnerable.
9. USE
From this screenshot you can see that we used the same camera shot
as they did, which is an over the shoulder shot, we used it because it is
creepy and good that we can see the villain near them but they don’t
know.
10. DEVELOP
Here we liked the idea that they used but we developed it to fit the
general horror stereotypes. To challenge we changed the colour of the
font.
11. DEVELOP
This shot is similar to “Amusement” but we developed it slightly but
changing the angle of which the clown comes from and the lighting is
darker.
12. CHALLENGE
The first thing that we challenged is the way that we started the
trailer, their trailer starts showing their character looking worried but
ours starts of much more relaxed with the two friends walking
together.
13. CHALLENGE
Another thing we challenged is the way that we show fear. They used
close up camera shots to show emotion but we decided to show the
characters looking worried. Give examples.
