03/2016 to Current Community Mental Health- Dartmouth, NS
Will see clients with a wide range of mental health diagnoses, schizophrenia,
bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety disorders and personality disorders.
Will have the opportunity for individual assessment, intervention planning
and implementation and possibly group facilitation and leadership.
Will become familiar with Solution Focused Approach for Choice appointments
and CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy).
01/2016 to 02/2016 Nova Scotia Rehabilitation Centre- Halifax, NS
Worked in inpatient, Neuro/spinal cord injury department (Parkinson’s,
Multiple Sclerosis), also worked with some musculoskeletal comorbidities.
Assessed client strength, range of motion, sensory perception, and functional
capacities via standardized and functional assessments.
Interpreted results and proposed client centered intervention plans, including
short and long-range goals, frequency and duration.
Planned and administered hand therapies involving strengthening, muscle re-
education and fine and gross motor coordination.
Worked with clients on activities of daily living (ADL) skills such as feeding,
dressing, bathing and toileting and worked with clients on improving safety
and ease of functional transfers.
Educated clients on basic wheelchair skills and set up, referred to specialists
for wheelchair skills training courses and specialty seating while building
skills in these areas

to best serve clients with vision impairments and some co-morbid cognitive
impairments.
Helped clients improve indoor and outdoor navigational skills by using
mobility canes and relying on memory and auditory cues.
Assisted clients in learning to read and type Braille.
Learned about occupational performance issues related to vision loss by
observing weekly group sessions with adults who had recently experienced
declines in vision.
Observed and participated in group sessions involved in educating family
members who had loved ones with vision loss.
Monitored and recorded client progress in response to therapy daily.

Established positive rapport with residents of Alcare Place, a long term drug
and alcohol recovery residence for men.
Collaborated with social workers and other OT student to identify the possible
scope of occupational therapy in this setting.
Created a resident survey with other OT students to identify possible
occupational performance issues.
Identified the most common theme was that residents wanted improve their
nutritional intakes
Designed a presentation focused on the effects of drugs and alcohol on the
body and the role of nutrition on recovery and overall health.
