3. Introduction
Research Productivity is the main key component to measure the research contribution of
any university from an academic perspective.
The higher education system in India has practiced measuring all the universities
annually and released the NIRF Ranking of the educational institutions.
Measuring Research productivity includes research publications, Citations, Self-
Citations, H-index, G-index, Impact factors, research funding, patents, PhD awarded and
most important ranking of authors or institutions.
NIRF Ranking, MoE, Govt. of India (Research Productivity, Impact, IPR – 100 Marks;
Combined Metric for Publications–45 Marks; Combined Metric for Citations–45 Marks;
IPR-10 Marks).
QS World University Ranking (Research citations per faculty member- 20%).
Times Higher Education World University Rankings ( Research papers published per
faculty member -6% + Research citations-30%).
Shanghai Ranking -Academic Ranking of World Universities (Highly Cited
Researchers - 20% + Research Papers in Nature and Science -20% + Research Papers
indexed SCI + SSCI - 20%)
4. Statement of Problem/ Research Questions
The doctoral theses are the ultimate intellectual product of academic
research activity. These are being examined and evaluated through the
bibliometric analysis to find out the efficiency, effectiveness and usefulness
of the policy of collection development of a library.
For this proposed study, the problems are listed below in the form of
research questions like
What are the different sources of information, commonly cited journals in
different subjects, the trend of authorship pattern, cited in the doctoral
theses on the library science at central university of Northeast India from
2012-2022 ?.
How are the citations distributed according to the subject, country and the
core journals on the library sciences ?.
How does the University Library satisfy the researchers' needs regarding these
frequently cited journals ?.
5. Objectives
To study and analyse the authorship distribution, subject-wise distribution,
country-wise distribution, year-wise distribution of Ph.D thesis in the discipline
of Library sciences at Central Universities of Northeast India during 2012-2022;
To find out the number of citations per thesis and average number of citations
of the doctoral theses;
To analyse the chronological distribution of citations of these to determine the
productive years;
To examine the rate of collaborative research within and outside of India;
To identify the different types and most cited documents used in Ph.D thesis;
To find out the half-life period of the literature and obsolescence of literature;
To verify the result with different laws of bibliometric study;
To suggest a need-based acquisition policy to the library for journals/books for
the discipline of library science.
6. Research Methodology
The methodology for this study will be bibliometric
analysis, which is used to study the details of the
bibliographic feature of the Ph.D theses and citation
analysis of the reference & bibliography appended at the
last of each thesis submitted to the discipline of library
science at central university of northeast India from 2012-
2022.
The descriptive statistics will apply during the analysis of
various measurements. The database of bibliographic
information of the citations of each thesis will be prepared
by using a spreadsheet, and the data for the analysis will
be done by using excel or other related software.
7. Division/Requirement/Duration/Implications
Chapter-1 Introduction, Review of Literature, Methodology, Chapter-2 Data
Analysis and Interpretation, Chapter-3 Findings Suggestions and Conclusions.
One Project Assistant is required for the period of one year to assist in the data
collection and compilation. Rs.3,00,000- (Three Lakhs) is minimum expenditure
for conduct of this project.
Under this research project, all the publications related dataset have to collect
for the analysis and evaluation. One year required for this research project to
complete.
The finding will surely help to library science researchers, teachers and
librarians. The policy and guidelines will also help to funder for evaluating the
research in library science in India and abroad. The finding will add to the
exiting stock of knowledge for the students and researchers.
