2. Internet of Things are used for many approaches.
Considering environmental issues garbage monitoring system and waste disposal systems
management are predominant.
The need for smart landfill monitoring system are progressed through sensor, pi-camera,
and smoke detector that are to avoid infections and pollution caused due to hazardous
gases.
Introduction
3. Organic Waste : kitchen waste, vegetables,
flowers, leaves, fruits etc.
Toxic Waste : Old medicines, paints, chemicals,
bulbs, spray cans, fertilizer
pesticide containers, batteries etc.
Recyclable : Paper, glass, metals, plastics.
BMW : Hospital waste such as cloth
soiled with blood and other body
fluids.
Municipal Solid Waste
6. Technology Status
Sanitary Landfill with recovery of organic
waste
A good option. Most of the Ulbs are
adopting this option.
Vermiculture
Practical for small volume of waste.
Large area is required.
Power Generation through bio-methanation
Can be used for source segregated
food waste with low CN ratio
An aerobic digestion for organic manure
There is a risk factor of waste water
discharge
Disposal and Processing: Few Technology
10. For onsite implementation the basic criteria are to be considered.
Mapping of constraints (This is to make a choice of potential sites).
Identification of sites.
Preliminary walk over survey is to be conducted subjected to site investigation on preferred
sites.
Attribute ranking of sites and final decision are (Deciding term in site selection criteria).
Location specific
14. Electromagnetic sensors are used for metal detection through
Eddy current based separation,
Hybrid multi sensors are used with dual energy X-ray transmission.
Inductive sensors used to measure electrical property of metal in optical based separation.
Hyper spectral imaging sensors are used to sort plastic and glass.
The ideology in sorting of municipal solid waste is to make them a valuable resource
through recycling as various fusion of electrical and electronic devices are introduced in this
system.
28. The work plan is started with design and development of mechanical waste separator
which is comprised of controller unit based on ATmega 328 datasheet with 14 digital input,
output pins and basic accessories are included to support microcontroller.
The sensor unit consist of Infra Red light proximity sensor and Soil moisture sensor.

30. 1. Evaluation of experimental model of waste segregation has been implemented
successfully with separating metallic, dry and wet solid waste.
2. The system can separate single type of waste at a time meanwhile the higher priority is
for wet waste rather than dry, metallic and substance similar to glass.
3. Treatment of the designed system may be fully controlled through automatic
programming which yields a better performance in real time monitoring process and
observed to be stable throughout the treatment.
4. Effective treatment optimization through single chip microcomputer, PLC and fuzzy
controller is recognized as effective in building Sustainable smart city development
through landfill leachate management.
5. New research Challenges in the field of robotics system for autonomous waste
segregation are developing day by day.
