2. I N T R O D U C T I O N
Skinfold calipers are used in measurement
of skinfold thickness and estimation of
total body fat.
HARPENDEN CALIPER
The resolution is 0.2 mm units, though it
may be accurately read from the scale to
the nearest 0.1 mm. It is a very well made
sturdy instrument, and quite expensive.

 Dial Graduation: 0.20 mm
 Measuring Range: 0 mm to 80 mm
 Measuring Pressure: 10 gms/mm2 (constant over range)
 Accuracy: 99.00%
 Repeatability: 0.20 mm

4. SITES FOR MEASURING SKIN FOLD THICKNESS

Chest, Triceps, Subscapular, Axilla,
Suprailiac, Abdomen, Thighs
Specially in males:- Biceps, Triceps,
Chest, Abdomen, Thighs
Specially in females:- Biceps, Triceps,
Suprailiac, Thighs, Abdomen

5. C A R E A N D U S E
a) Ensure that your Calipers are clean and open freely and smoothly.
b) Always clean the Caliper before and after use on a test subject.
c) Check for repeatability of the zero reading within one division
(0.2mm).
d) Do not open and shut the calipers rapidly or allow the calipers to
snap shut. This can cause damage to the Indicator mechanism.

6. C A L I B R A T I O N
a) To re-set the Dial Indicator to zero, rotate the Bezel
to the appropriate position.
b) The Calipers are now ready for use.

instrument designed for use in the performance of
Skinfold thickness measurements
(from which estimates of body fat are derived).
