INTRODUCTION The global economy could not function without the shipping industry. It is a bold statement, but one hard to argue with when you consider that 90% of world trade is carried by sea. The International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) is a technically based organization consisting of twelve marine classification societies. Belong to IACS the twelves most reliable ranking companies in the world. The societies members are BV, RINA, DNV, ABS, NK, RS, PRS, CRS, CCS, KR,IR. IACS provides a forum within which the member societies can discuss, research and adopt technical criteria that enhance maritime safety. More than 90% of the world's cargo carrying ships’ tonnage is covered by the classification standards set by the twelve member societies of IACS.
