Life Cycle Assessment: * What does LCA really mean for the marine industry? * Example of the full LCA on a typical family size boat from cradle to grave. Including cost of raw materials, manufacturing, energy input, energy consumption, emission of greenhouse gases and dismantling/recycling at EOL. * Example of the full LCA as above on a typical family car. (ISO 14040 standards as used by Audi.) * How can the LCA principle be employed to drive down costs for boat builders as it has in other industries? The Circular Economy: * What does it really mean, and how could/should it relate to the Marine Industry? * How are other industries (aerospace/automotive/consumer goods manufacturing) accepting and adapting to the CE Concept? * Practical examples of pioneers in our industry who are embracing and moving towards the CE Concept. Designing and constructing boats for easier dismantling and more environmentally responsible recycling in future: * The naval architects/designers viewpoint. Practical examples of how design principles are changing (or not) to meet this requirement. * The boat builder’s viewpoint. * Developments in sustainable materials. What is actually out there now, or possibly coming in the future, which can genuinely meet the demands of marine use, and still be 100% recyclable or biodegradable at an acceptable cost level? * What can we learn from other industries that may already be moving more positively in this direction?
