2. BASIC TERMINOLOGY
• DESIGN OF EXPERIMENT - Experimental are concerned with examination of the
effect of independent variable on the dependent variable, where the
independent variable is manipulated through treatment or intervention & the
effect of those interventions is observed on the dependent variable.
• EXPERIMENTAL UNITS – The basic object on which experiment is done are
known as experimental units. It may a plot of land, a plant and an insect etc.
• EXPERIMENTAL ERROR - Variation in experimental units due to different
treatments, blocking etc are known to experimenter, constitute assignable part.
The part of variation which can not be assigned to the specific reason or causes
are termed as experimental error.
3. • FACTOR - The variable whose effect on the response variable we wish to study
may be termed as an independent variable or a factor like fertilizer, spacing,
irrigation schedule and pesticide are known as factor.
• TREATMENT – The objects of camparison, which an experimenter has to try out
in field for assessing their values are known as treatments. Example - seed
varielies, manures & fertilizer, Insecticide and pesticides etc.
• BLOCKING – Blocking is technique by virtue of which the whole experiment area
is sub-divided into number of small plots each having homogenous nature.
• REPLICATION – Repetition of treatments under the investigation is known as
replication.
4. • RANDOMIZATION – The allocation of treatment to different plots by a random
process is known as randomization. It can be done by the reffering random
table or follow lottery or chits method.
• LOCAL CONTROL – The principle of making use of grater homogeneity in groups
of experimental units to reducing thr experimental error is known as local
control.
• LAYOUT OF THE FIELD – It is the logical arrangement of treatments with a view
to obtain data for deriving valid conclusion.
• FIELD – A field is an area of land enclosed or otherwise, used for agricultural
purpose such as cultivating crops or other enclose for livestock. A filed may also
be an area left to lie or fallow or as arable land.
5. • YIELD – Yield is measurement of the amount of agriculture production harvested
per unit land area.
• TOOLS – Tools amd equipment are instruments we use in farm to aid us in farm
work, thereby making it easy. Such equipment include sickle, shovel etc.
