3. SUPPORTING STRUCTURES
• Supporting structures of maxillary denture bearing area are:
• Primary- i) Maxillary tuberosity
ii) Hard Palate on either side of palatal raphe
Secondary - i) Residual Alveolar ridges
ii) Rugae
RELIEF AREAS:
Relief areas of maxillary denture bearing area are :
i) Incisive Papilla
ii) Cuspid Eminence
iii) Mid Palatine Raphe
iv) Fovea Palatine
4. Labial Frenum
• It appears as a fold of mucous membrane extending
from mucous lining of lip to the crest of residual ridge on
the labial surface.
• It may be single or multiple with fan shape
• Significance:
• 1.Recording:Lip elevated and extended
outward,downward& inward.
• 2.Sufficient relief should be given to avoid
pain&dislodgement of denture
• If the frenum is attached close to the crest,frenectomy is
advocated.
