• Open source software is software provided for use,
modification, and redistribution with no restrictions
from copyright holder.
• Shareware is copyrighted software that is distributed
at no cost for a trial period.
• Freeware is copyrighted software provided at no cost

• Public-domain software is free software that has
been donated for public use and has no copyright
restrictions

– Desktop is an on-screen work area that has a graphical user interface.
– Icon is a small image displayed on a computer screen that represents a

– Button is a graphical element that is activated to cause a specific action to
occur.
– Pointer is a small symbol displayed on a computer screen whose location
and shape changes as a user interacts with a mouse or other pointing
device.
– Menu is an item on the computer screen that contains a list of commands
from which a user can make selections.
– Command is an instruction on a menu that causes a program to perform a
specific action.
– Window is a rectangular area of a computer screen that displays data or
information.
– Title bar is a horizontal space, located at the top of a window, that contains
the window's name.
