show
1.Check it out
Before go to a show take time to visit a few
similar events so we can know what is involved
and your dog can get used to the slight, sounds
and smells.
2.Bath time
It’s probably better to bath your dogs the day
before a show rather than on the same day itself.
Because your dog’s coat will also have had time
to dry properly and won’t be as fluffy and fly
away.
Use good quality shampoo and conditioner which
are suitable for your dog’s coat and rinse of all
product very thoroughly.
5. 3.Brush up
Give your dog a good groom the day before the
show.
Make sure you remove all tangles from the coat,
clean around the eyes and ensure your dog’s
claws are neat
If it ‘s time for a visit to the groomer’s, Book this
well in advance so that your dog really looks his
best on the big day.
4.Get packing
A plastic box with a lid and carrying handle makes an
ideal show box.
6.
7. Items to take include:
Water bowl and water.
Money to pay for entry fees.
Safety pins to attach your entry number on to
clothing.
Grooming kit.
Show collar and lead.
Cool collar in case the weather is hot.
Camera.
In addition, a coat, jumper, sun hat, umbrella ,
sunglasses , over trousers and most
importantly comfy shoes.
14. Other useful tips:
Avoid crowding the dog in front. Make sure your
dog is always on the same side as the judge so
his view is not blocked.
If you have dark –haired dog ,wearing light-
colored trousers or a skirt will help to show him
off. Alternatively, dark clothes contrast nicely
against a dog with light fur.
You may be asked to walk your dog in a straight
line or a triangle so the judge can assess his
movement.
Stay alert and pay attention to what the judge and
the steward say.
15. If the judge asks you to stand your dog he wants
you to make sure the dog is standing straight and
looking his best.
Stand behind your dog while you lure him into
position with a treat. Feed once the judge has
walked past.
Most fun dog shows allow handlers to take treats
into the ring, so prepare a range of tasty titbits to
keep your dog interested. like small pieces of
cheese, chopped sausage, chicken etc.
And wear a treat bag around your waist.
16. Principles of training of dogs
There are five principles must keep in mind when
training of dogs:
1. Know how
2. Repetition
3. Patience
4. Praise
5. Correction
17. The most fundamental principle in dog training is
that the handler must know how each act,
technique, method and position is accomplished
before he/she can properly train the dog.
18. The handler must apply the principles with
interest, enthusiasm and a desire to attain
perfection.
Therefore, it is essential that handler possess
personal discipline. This is especially true during
the time that you are apply the principle of
repetition.
19. Patience is one of the most important
requirements of dog trainer or handler to make a
dog perform same exercise repeatedly.
When a handler loses his or her temper, they
have lost control and this confuse the dog.
Patience along with firmness results in a better
trained dog.
20. The dog trainer who display patience can
motivate the dog properly through praise.
When it is praised highly, the dog senses that it
has done the correct things and does it more
readily next time the same command is given.
21. A dog doest not understand right from wrong as
human do.
Reward and correction are the means by which
dog is taught.
If dog does exercise incorrectly do not allow it to
go. Withholding praise or the simple “No!”,
spoken reprovingly, usually proves to be sufficient
for correction purposes.
