INTRODUCTION-
Poison is any substance
that is harmful to your body.
The effects of poisoning
range from short –term
illness to brain damage,
coma ,and death.

DEFINITION-
Poisoning is one of the important
accident hazards among children. It
may occur though ingestion,
inhalation, injection or skin contact
of poisonous substances.

that are harmful and can causes
poisoning . There include -
House hold products and care
personal product like,
• Nail polish remover and
mouthwash, Which is harmful to
children.

detergent.
Paint thinner.
Pesticides chemical,
• Herbicides.
• Such as fertilizers.
• Fungicides.
Prescription and over the counter
medicine when combined or taken
the wrong way.

• Illegal drugs.
Carbon monoxide gas.
Poison plants,
• Castor,
• Caner flower.
Venom from certain snake and.

The effects of poisoning depends on the
substance, amount, and type of contact
your age, weight, and state of health also
affect your symptoms.
• Nausea and vomiting.
• Diarrhea.
• Rash.
• Redness or sores around the mouth.

• Dry mouth.
• Confusion.

firstly they will review your history
and do a physical exam.
History -
Testing - Blood test, urine test.
• C T Scan , M.R.I. ,ECG,
• Stool Culture.
• CBC

Treatment-
Treatment depend on the person and
the type of poisoning.
Stable to ABC-
A- Airway
B- Breathing
C- Circulation
Stomach wash (gastric
lavage)
Antidote Medicine
According to the treatment of symptoms

Pharmacological Treatment -
Beta Blockers- Beta blocker are a class of
drugs used to treat heart condition for ex.
Abnormal rhythms and other conditions. High
blood pressure, headache.
Emesis – The action of vomiting.
Ipecac syrup is to also be
used for emesis to treat poisoning.
IV fluids are given for
hypoglycemia [IV Dextrose ]

Nursing Diagnosis
-
Sever pain related to disease condition as
evidence by pain scale / facial expression.
Altered body temperature related to disease
condition as evidence by taking temperature.
Fluid and Electrolytes imbalance due to less
intake of water as evidence by intake / output
chart.

Prevention -
Teach your children about the dangers.
Carbon monoxide is a deadly gas you
cannot, teste or smell.
Only take prescription medications that
are prescribe to you by a healthcare
professional.
Dispose of unused ,unneeded ,or expired
prescription drugs.
Never place poisonous products in food
or drink containers.

Stay away from areas that have been
sprayed recently with pesticides or
fertilizer.
Hand washing.
Keep all potential poisons up high and out
of reach of children.
