Enclose and protect the other external
reproductive organs.
hair growth occurs on the skin .
contain sweat and oil-secreting glands.
4. Labia minora
Lie just inside the labia majora.
Surround the openings to the vagina and urethra
Skin is very delicate and can become easily
irritated and swollen
6. Clitoris:
The two labia minora meet at the clitoris.
A small, sensitive protrusion
Covered by a fold of skin, called the prepuce.
Very sensitive to stimulation and can become
erect.
9. Vagina:
Canal that joins the cervix (the lower part of uterus)
to the outside of the body.
Known as the birth canal.
Diameter – 2.5cm
Structures – mucous coat, submucous layer,
Muscular layer
Blood supply – cervicovaginal branch of the uterine
artery, vaginal artery, middle rectal & Internal
pudendal
10. Uterus (womb):
The uterus is a hollow, pear-shaped organ.
8cm long, 5cm wide, 1.25cm thick
Divided into 3 parts:
Cervix
Isthmus
Corpus

1. Cervix - 2.5 cm, extends from isthmus to
ext.OS
2. Isthmus – 0.5 cm, between body & Cervix
3. Corpus- Fundus & Cavity
13. Ovaries:
The ovaries are small, oval-shaped glands that
are located on either side of the uterus.
It ovaries produce eggs and hormones.
Blood supply - ovarian
14. Fallopian tubes:
These are narrow tubes that are attached to
the upper part of the uterus.
Serve as pathways for the ova (egg cells) to
travel from the ovaries to the uterus.
Fertilization of an egg by a sperm normally
occurs in the fallopian tubes.
The fertilized egg then moves to the uterus,
where it implants to the uterine lining.
