 The emergence of the corona virus pandemic
(Covid-19) in the last quarter 2019 altered
dramatically a number of ways of doing
BUSINESS not only in China where it originated
but globally.
 This paper set out to do an impact assessment of
the pandemic on a popular e-commerce platform
in Nigeria.
 The tentative assumption behind the study was
that given the lockdown and the spate of
restrictions that were imposed, in the wake of the
pandemic, there was a high propensity to
patronise online /e-commerce platforms by
existing and new customers.
 Two data collection tools were deployed
for data collection and the target
respondents were the customers of Jumia
and a Jumia centre in Lagos.
 The sample was purposively selected.
Descriptive and inferential statistics were
used
 Results obtained after analysis corroborated the
three apriori assumptions behind the study
which revealed that more customers including
those who had not previously patronized the e-
commerce platforms joined the online
shopping train thus confirming the earlier
assumption that there was a tendency for an
increase in the volume of trade and numbers of
customers occasioned by the onset and
circumstances of the global pandemic, others
said they use online platform to keep safe from
crowds during the pandemic
 The paper concluded by recommending further
use and encouragement of online trade and e-
commerce because of its many benefits even
after the end of the pandemic.
 The paper suggested a higher number of
subjects, more relevant independent variables
and more online platforms in Nigeria for
further studies in order to have a better picture
and more sweeping generalizations.
