3. Bauhinia purpurea is a species of flowering plant in
the family Leguminosae, native to South China and
south east Asia, commonly called Tanki in Nepal. It
is a small to medium sized deciduous tree which can
grow up to 17 ft and found in sub-tropical region of
Nepal.

 Primarily cultivated as an ornamental shrub and for erosion control.
 The leaves and flowers are used as fodder.
 This species has also medical uses such as a febrifugal, antidiarrheal and
antidysentery remedy and it is also used as an astringent.
 The bark is used for dyeing and tanning.
 The wood is used for making fuelwood.
