2. IMNCI
• This programme was developed by the United
Nations Children's Fund and World Health
Organization in 1995.
• The current Infant Mortality rate (as per 2011
census) is 34 per 1000 live births.
• The current Under-5 mortality rate (as per 2011
census) is 45 per 1000 live births.
3. • Strategy – Integrated Management of common
Childhood diseases.
• Aim – To Improve Health Worker skills in
identifying, treating and preventing common
childhood diseases and problems which if
identified and tackled in an integrated way result
effectively in reducing Morbidity and Mortality
rates in Under-5 Children.
4. • The common core problems IMNCI tackles are:
1) Acute respiratory Infections (ARI)
2) Diarrhea
3) Measles
4) Malaria
5) Malnutrition and of common
associated conditions.
5. Also emphasizes the importance of :
• Immunization
• Vitamin-A supplementation
• Improved infant feeding including exclusive
breastfeeding.
