Fitness myths
1.
2. I’m glad you As you can clearly see
from this picture, there
asked! is a difference when it
comes to gender
difference in fitness.
Men have the ability
to develop each fiber
of a muscle due to a
sex-specific male
hormone. Woman
don’t have the same
specific hormone. Photo

3. Well here’s a question for
you, do you think oranges
turn into apples?
Muscles and fat are
completely two different
elements. Muscle cells
increase in size when you
engage them in weight
training. Fat cells on the
other hand will increase
when you have a high
caloric intake without
weight training.

4. Your metabolism increases due to
weight training because developed
muscle tissue will use more energy
than fatty tissue.
An individual that has a practice of
strength training will assist in
controlling ones own weight and
prevent possible obesity.

5. One might think free weights are
better and you might look cooler
in the mirror, however, using
either the free weights or
machines are both fine.
The benefits you might find with
the machines though, is the ease
of working thru your workout
because you only have to change
the pin to adjust the weight; you
don’t have to worry as much
about form as the machine helps
direct you. One other benefit to
machines would be the ability to
work out your hip flexion and
abduction which can only be done
on a machine.

6. Core work means focusing on
your abdominal muscles as
well as your oblique's, hip
muscles (front and back) as well
as your upper and lower back
muscles. By strengthening
your core, this will enhance your
ability to maintain a strong spine
and pelvis as well as the added
benefit of having a nice posture
and balance, especially if you are
playing any sports, your core
strength is important!

7. Visceral fat is fat that accumulates around our
internal organs and increase your risk for heart
attaches and strokes; this type of fat will also
increase the likely hood of chronic diseases.
Subcutaneous fat is fat primarily just under
your skin and the health issues are not the same, it
is still important to assess your body mass
regularly as this is where you can identify that you
are starting to accumulate excess fat.
Keep in mind those that tend to accumulate fat
primarily around the waist are at a greater risk for
disease.
