1. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have
learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
Looking back to our prelim, we feel we have madea lot of progress in
terms of knowledgesinceSeptember. When compared with our
individualprelim tasks, our film demonstratesbetter editing,
camerawork, as well as many other things.
Everythingpractical to do with our film (the camerawork, editing,
location decision etc.) wasnew to usand thus required us to become
proficientin these aspects quite quickly. Wemadea number of
‘rookie’ errorsin our prelim that we learnt from and madesurenot
to make in the finalproductof our film. The main oneof these was a
lack of quality in the sound, which we addressed by featuringa
number of relevant sound effectsand a soundtrack in our film. This
comparesto our prelim, which only used poorly enhanced portions
of speech. Another mistake wemadein the prelim that we learnt
from was the overallunderstandingof the importanceof the position
of the camera. In the prelim, wereally just positioned the camerain a
place where the actors were in view, neglecting to think of any other
angles that may have enhanced the product. In our film however, a
number of differentcamera angles and movementswereused, to
give the film a larger variety and keep it relatively unique.
In termsof editing, our understandingasa whole has increased
massively. Wewent from simply editinga match-on-action in our
prelim to cutting together a number of differentcamera shots and
scenes. Wefeel we have improved massively in this aspect, evidenced
in our finalcut.
Our research and planningskillshave also improved, asevidenced by
such tasks as our animatic storyboard. Wehave efficiently planned
out every aspect of our film.
