2. Cinematography
Pros.
● One of the key things that we
did well in our pre lim task
video was the rule of thirds.
In a documentary it is
conventional for the
interviewee to be positioned
to either the left or right of the
shot which is a technique
called the rule of thirds which
is what we did.
● There is some good camera
work and movement for some
of the shots for the cutaways.
Cons.
● In terms of cinematography
our camera failed to be eye-
level with the interviewee, this
was a mistake that we can
learn from.
● During the interview, the
interviewee made eye contact
with the camera a couple of
times which is unconventional
for a documentary.
3. Mise-en-scene.
Pros
● The setting of the interview was
relevant because it was based in
a college and was about
students and what they do with
their phones. This included the
background which had a poster
about learning which is relevant
to colleges.
● Because the documentary was
light hearted, the lighting of the
documentary was high key
lighting.
Cons
● Even though the setting was
relevant to the topic of mobile
phones, it was a very simple
setting and boring setting which
could have been improved if more
time was spent on the task.
4. Graphics.
Pros
● Relevant graphics for the
relevance which related to
documentaries.. With the name
and underneath relevance
matched the target audience
and the theme
Cons
● The relevance is too large, this
is shown because the name of
the interviewee isn’t that much
bigger which could cause
confusion with the target
audience.
● The font used has no link to
phones which is unconventional.
5. Sound.
Pros
● The song was relevant
because it was a song about
calling people in a
documentary about mobile
phones.
Cons
● Audio levels on first viewing on
the projector were too high
and drowned out the dialogue.
● Audio levels on YouTube were
too low and you couldn’t hear
the music at all.
6. Editing.
Pros
● There are enough cutaways
so all the jump cuts cannot
be seen. This is
conventional for the
documentaries because the
audience don’t want to hear
the questions being asked.
Cons.
● Many of the cutaways
did not link to the
questions being
answered. This was
because we didn’t have
long to edit these videos
so the priority was to
cover the jump cuts
which is what we did.
