Personal Summary
I am a civil engineer with four years experience in the engineering industry in New Zealand, having
worked as a geotechnical engineer since my graduation from the University of Canterbury with a
BE (Hons) degree and have worked as a civil engineering technician prior to studying for my degree.
I have a passion for geotechnical and pavement engineering and am looking to learn and develop a
broader range of experience within these areas of the civil engineering industry and gain a wide range
of project experience to become a versatile engineer and to become achieve chartered professional
engineer status.
I have recently been working as a bicycle mechanic and salesperson since January 2016 at the
Bike Barn Lyall Bay store.

Bicycle Mechanic and Salesperson January 2016 – June 2016
Bike Barn - Lyall Bay, Wellington
I worked as a member of the staff at the Bike Barn store in Lyall Bay, Wellington until the store was
permanently closed.
My role included:
• Engaging with customers to help them make a choice that suits their needs in terms of the
product they wish to purchase, from bicycles to accessories and helping with any bicycle
repair related matters.
• Identifying and making repairs to customers bicycles, scooters and other items of bike related
equipment and booking them in for service.
• Managing any incoming stock, keeping the store displays stocked and liaising with other
stores regarding transferring items for customers.
• Opening, closing and running the store when the Manager and 2IC were not rostered on duty.
• Meeting the key performance targets set by the company.
• The assembly of bicycles and other items for customers and to keep the floor stocked.
• Participating as a Bike Barn representative at events such as the Weetbix Kids Tryathlon.
Geotechnical Engineer (graduate) February 2012 – September 2013
GHD Ltd – Geotechnical section Christchurch
I worked as a geotechnical engineer in the Christchurch office of GHD Ltd, and participated in the
GHD graduate training programme. The day to day projects I worked on include:
• The organisation and completion of geotechnical inspections of residential and commercial
properties damaged as a result of the Canterbury earthquakes, including hand auguring and
scala penetrometer testing and logging to New Zealand Geological Society (NZGS) standard.
• Organisation of intrusive geotechnical testing (boreholes and CPT testing) by drilling
companies, including services clearance, access and location of the testing.
• Communication with clients and property owners to provide information about the
organisation of the geotechnical investigations.

• The preparation geotechnical reports of residential and commercial properties for clients and
due diligence work for new projects.
• Liquefaction susceptibility assessments based on data acquired from intrusive geotechnical
testing (CPT machine testing).
• Construction monitoring of various bridge replacement projects and commercial construction
projects and preparation of site inspection reports.
• Contaminated land sampling (soil and water) of sites based on historical land use in
preparation for future development.
• Monthly well monitoring for the SH1 Assessment of Environmental Effects report.
• Secondments to City Care Ltd reviewing CCTV footage ofthe earthquake damaged pipeline
networks within Christchurch and coding the defects according to the New Zealand Pipe
Inspection Manual; and to the Stronger Christchurch Infrastructure Rebuild Team (SCIRT)
geotechnical investigation section supervising drilling operations and preparing borehole logs
and reports.
Casual Contract Employee February 2011 - February 2012
GHD Ltd – Transport and Water sections
Continuing on from my Summer Student role, I worked for GHD on a casual basis during the period of
time when Canterbury University was closed due to the February 22nd earthquake. I assisted with the
immediate recovery operations following the earthquake performing RAMM inspections of earthquake
damaged roads and recording of the locations of excavated silt piles dug out from residential
properties resulting from the liquefaction.
Summer Student November 2010 – February 2011
GHD Ltd – Transport and Water sections
I worked for the transport and water sections as a summer student in the Christchurch office of GHD
during the summer before my third professional year. I worked on the Main South Road Four Laning
scoping report, Canberra bus lane development project and provided draughting assistance for the
Transport section. For the Water section I worked on the Christchurch City Council approved
materials documents, Hutt Stream flood modelling and other various tasks for the section.
Surveying Assistant November 2009 – February 2010
Porirua City Council – Asset Management and Operations (AMO) section
I worked as a surveying assistant for the summer period between my first and second professional
academic years; the work required performing GPS surveying of the underground service features
managed by the AMO section. The work involved going out to a site and recording the positions of the
manholes, sumps, valves, tobies and other service features associated with the services located in
the area. The work was based around the larger Porirua region. I spent time updating the digital as-
built record using the surveyed data on Microstation, on the days where I was not able to perform the
surveying work and also assisted other members of the section with their duties as required by
performing such tasks as bridge inspections and site visits with clients.

Civil Engineering Technician March 2004 – Feb 2007 and Nov 2007 – Feb 2008
Beca Infrastructure Ltd – Infrastructure section
I worked as a draughtsperson in the Infrastructure section of the Wellington office. During my time at
Beca I worked upon small and large scale projects including State highway upgrades, local city
council roading projects, Airport maintenance and development projects. I also spent time working
with other sections within the company including the Water section dealing with water and wastewater
projects and with the Planning section providing draughting for international city planning and for
resource consent applications. I spent two months working solely for the Industrial and Power
sections.
IT Support Officer May 2006 – February 2007
Beca Ltd
I performed the IT support duties of the Wellington office for the IT section based in the head office of
Beca in Auckland. I did this job concurrently with my position as Civil Engineering Technician. My
duties included ordering and setting up new computer workstations and equipment, liaising with the
Head IT section on problems, attending the weekly IT conference call, dealing with the individual IT
problems staff members were experiencing, organising the rollout of new computer equipment and
software to staff, replacing printers, maintaining the network server equipment and being on call for
emergencies. This required communicating with people in the IT section and performing tasks with
their guidance and instruction.
Surveying Assistant September 2003 –March 2004

My job involved assisting with site surveys of stormwater and sewer networks and doing surveys of
stormwater catchments as required on a casual basis while I was studying for the Diploma in Civil
Engineering.

• proficient with the use of Autocad draughting software and have had exposure to other

My daily interests are related to outdoor activities, including mountain biking, white water kayaking
and other outdoor activities; I volunteer my time with local mountain bike trail building groups building
trails in the Polhill Reserve in Aro Valley and at Makara Peak in Karori and I have volunteered as a
race marshal at mountain bike events in the Wellington region.
I also enjoy reading when not outdoors and I enjoy travelling, having last been travelling overseas
through Australia, Thailand, the United Kingdom and Europe.
