I have graduated in civil engineering in Jan 2014. I have gained valuable experience during
2-month work placement with a civil engineering contractor working on hydraulic modelling
for clean water, waste water and flood management. I am keen to pursue a career in civil
engineering using my team work, IT, problem solving and management skills gained through
2-year experience in a construction environment with local builders.

Skills Profile
Communication
 Giving presentations are vital part of my degree and it has greatly improved my
communication skills and self-confidence.
 Successfully trained a new staff member to deliver high levels of customer service on the
office floor by utilising my communication and mentoring skills.
 I had to do technical discussions with engineers during my work experiences from
different teams to find out what needed to be done.
Teamwork/Project Management
 Worked with different teams during work experiences and enjoyed working towards the
completion of projects and obtaining results was very satisfactory.
 Group presentations during my course enhanced my teamwork and interpersonal skills.
 Group work in practical lessons has further developed my teamwork skills and has
provided me with hands on experience with a variety of techniques used in the civil
engineering industry such as surveying.

2.  As a construction engineer I have learned key project management skills.
Numerical/Problem Solving (Estimation)
 Modules like structures, hydraulics and mathematics has provided a variety of
challenges and has enlightened me with the capabilities of solving numerical problems.
 Providing calculations for high pitch roof, low pitch roof, different foundations, suspended
floors, piling and construction materials were few of my critical duties as a construction
engineer.
IT Skills
 I have gained working knowledge of various software including MS Word, MS Excel, MS
PowerPoint, MS Project, EngiLab, MapInfo, AutoCAD and ISIS.
Organisation/Time Management
 We were able to visit and investigate several water pumps in one day.
 River Tame Project of my work placement required the use of AutoCAD so I developed
my skills by working and learning AutoCAD through tutorials at home.
Work Experience
June 2013-July 2013 Work placement (CH2M HILL-Halcrow Group Ltd Birmingham)
 Worked in the water department with three teams’ clean water (Liverpool project), waste
water (Manchester project) and flood management (River Tame Project).
 Visited Liverpool FC stadium, hospital and oil refineries to assess pipework’s for
installation of pulse units.
 Loggers for hydrants were updated, which included 10 bars and 20 bars loggers.
 Measured angles between River Tame and floodwalls which required good skills of
AutoCAD. The MapInfo software was used to do sub catchments for Manchester project.
September 2015-July 2016 Work experience (K.M. Builders Bolton)
 Checking and generating calculations for refurbishment and new construction regarding
different pitched roof, foundations, piling, suspended floors and construction materials.
 Investigating ground and roof conditions to provide alternative solutions.
 Managing paper work like checking contracts, letters, bills and writing emails to clients.
August 2014-May 2015 Work experience (E Choice Business Links Ltd Bolton)
 Duties included: Handling orders and money, training and supervising staff on
construction sites, organising shift rota, writing letters to clients, checking inventory and
ordering construction materials.
