Career Objective
The end goal for my career is to be the Lead Structural Engineer of a team developing and
coordinating construction of large civil projects such as buildings, hydro-electric dams,
mineral and oil and gas facilities. I attained six weeks work experience with Jacobs
Engineering in my third year; and am currently a casual graduate engineer with SMEC. My
next career milestone is to secure a full time graduate position where I can begin to work
towards a Chartered Professional Engineer status. As a part of my career advancement I
would like to challenge myself by working overseas, I would take the opportunity to work on
projects in the Middle East or Africa to further myself and look at specialising in my field or
take on a leadership position.

April 2016 - Present
Graduate Engineer with SMEC Australia Pty Ltd in the Brisbane Rail and Structures Teams.
 Beerburrum to Nambour track duplication and upgrade business case, I collated
data from site photos and previous feasibility reports for options analysis.
 Queensland Rail Bridge Protection Beams, reviewed site surveys and service maps
to put forward options for pile placement and protection beam construction as well
as basic structural calculations for a column/pile layout option.
 Melbourne to Brisbane Inland Rail Feasibility Project, collated the bulk earthworks
data from the various alignment options along a section of track to compare with
the base case for costing and feasibility purposes.

2. Jan 2015 – Feb 2015
Undergraduate work experience with Jacobs Engineering, in the Darwin ANZ
Infrastructure Office.
 Preliminary design calculations for costing and tender purposes of the Gateway cycle
overpass ramp, this required reviewing past geotechnical and weather data for the
area and designing a concept layout.
 Detailed design of columns and foundations for the Gateway Project, this entailed
design capacities which included overturning, flexure, punching and soil capacity.
 Detailed design of the Darwin Turf Club underpass, conducted detailed analysis of
the slabs and concrete block walls and submitted sketches to draftsman that
detailed reinforcement specifications.
 Produced a concept model using sketch up for tender of an underpass for the Darwin
Turf Club horse track, this required discussion with Structural Division Manager on
underpass requirements and applying Australian standard requirements for the
structure made up of a staircase, disability ramp and main culvert structure.
Feb 2014 – June 2014
Sessional Academic tutor for Mechanical and Thermal Engineering at Queensland
University of Technology.
 Running tutorials has vastly improved my confidence in speaking to large groups (25-
30 people).
 Tutoring has also improved my skills in communicating with people from other
cultures, I often spent time after class translating lecturer jargon. I was also required
to ensure that students were on track with assignments so it was essential to
manage my time as well as the students.
July 2011 – Feb 2013
Full time labour hire, with MacMahon Contractors Northern Territory Maintenance
Workshop, now Territoria Civil.
 During my time at MacMahon Contractors I was granted access to both of the
projects running at the time, the continuing Shoal Bay Refuse and Recycling Project,
and the Marine Supply Base expansion project. I learnt a lot about time management
and forethought through these projects, site entry was monitored and restricted so I
needed to ensure that brought everything I would need as I could not leave and
come back.
 My responsibilities at both of these project included; assisting diesel fitters with
maintenance of earthmoving machinery. I was also required to assist operators with
alignment and marking out the site, I learnt a lot about the difficulties that arise in
the construction phase of a project.

 Use vibration theory to test the use of accelerometers to detect failing members in
cable structures
 Carry out testing using scale suspension bridge to try and replicate computer model
results of Wasanthi Wickramasinghe.

Design of 60x40 m Steel Warehouse in Northlakes Brisbane Project
 Carried out a site analysis to form site land profiles as well as a detailed wind analysis
 Used the appropriate Australian standards to design all structural elements as well
as covering cost analysis.
 Used space gas software to combine pressure loadings, for 2D frames as well as a 3D
structure analysis.
