1. The Challenge
With the increasein vehicleproduction atGM Holden and the re-introduction of the 2nd
shiftthere was a significantneed for increasingproduction levels.Roles to fill included
Production,Logistics and Quality positionson an ongoing basisas well as ad-hoc daily
basis. All staff had to be thoroughly screened, inducted, trained and ready for the increase
to meet customer needs.
The Solution
Havingbeen the major provider of staff for the last4 years at ZF Lemforder the business
was very comfortablewith our knowledge and understandingof the job, skillsand
workplaceenvironment. Havingdelivered a detailed plan to recruitand inductstaff over a
6 week period the ZF Lemforder Management team led by CraigNothard was confident
and satisfied thatKelly Services could deliver.
A strongemphasis on pre-screeningand assessingcandidates with the need of trialing70
production staff in a 2 week period prior to the startdate was imperative. It was agreed to
rotate new starters through the trainingtwo weeks prior to the go-live date.
The Results
Over 70 production casuals wereput through intensivetrainingand considered suitableto
continue on a regular basis or for extra daily requirements. ZF Lemforder was very
satisfied and pleased that with the change from 1 to 2 shifts thatwith Kelly Services
assistancethey were ableto maintain output standards to their customers satisfaction.
Both supervisors had littleor no labour concerns duringthe initial startup and as of May
2011 they are pleased that they are still ableto get on with business as usual.Kelly
Services received regular feedback from ZF Lemforder and were congratulated on our
commitment and dedication to meeting high delivery standards. This has also led to an
extension of our already long-term relationship.
