2. WORDS TO STUDY
*Girth Measurements- taken horizontally
and most of them go around the entire
circumference of the body
*Length Measurements- taken vertically
and their primary purpose is to measure
the distance between reference points of
the body.
3. Rules in Taking Body Measurements
1. Use a tape measure that does not stretch.
2. Make sure your client wears well-fitted undergarments
and outer garments
3. Tie a string around the natural waistline of the client.
4. Ask the client to stand in a relaxed, upright position.
5. Take girth measurements, then vertical measurements.
6. Insert two fingers in the tape measure in taking
circumferential measurements.
7. Be sure to keep the tape measure parallel to the floor.
8. Pull the tape snug, but not too tight.
9. Record accurately all measurements on a chart

6. Procedure in Taking Body Measurements
1. Horizontal measurements
2. Circumferential
measurements
3. Vertical measurements
20. Let us remember
1. Measurements should be accurate
and exact, not tight or loose.
2. Accurate body measurements help
produce correct patterns and well-
fitted garments.
3. Time in constructing a garment is
saved if body measurements are
taken.
21. ACTIVITY
1. Find a pair and measure their
horizontal, vertical and
circumferential measurements using
a tape measure.
2. Record your measurement on a 1
whole sheet of paper.
3. Use the layout given by your
teacher.
