Argumentative Essay On Sexual Violence
A middle aged business man holding a leather briefcase, dressed in a sleek black tailored suit, wearing a gold watch that clasps on his wrist, walks
into a gas station located in the run down part of town holding a leather briefcase. After entering and paying the cashier for the gas he is about to
put into his newest edition sports car, another man walks in with a gun. The robber demands the business man's watch and all the money in his
wallet. After the businessman safely makes it to the police station, he begins calling his family and friends to share the incident. His audience only
responds with the usual responds to a crime, "Oh my goodness, how tragic" or "They need to catch the robber so he can spend time in jail." Not
once did they question what he was wearing or blame it on his expensive attire. Not once did they ask if he said anything to lead the robber to make
him think it was okay or if he was telling the truth. In this situation the victim is not being blamed for the incident, but today in many sexual assault
cases society has tried to turn the blame from the attacker to the victim. Sexual assault and rape is a major issue luring over America and the rest of the
world and society is playing a major role in the degrading the seriousness of it. Society has normalized sexual assault by trying to blame the conditions
on what the victim was wearing or their prior activities of the night. Society reduces assault to a "normal" behaviors of the sexes. The common uses

Sexual Violence: A Victim Analysis
For the past 2 years, I have gotten the opportunity to share about being a victim of sexual violence. Being able to talk on it should make it feel easier
to overcome but, in my experience I've never felt more like; a liar, more silenced and vulnerable than the times I have spoken on my sexual assault and
rape. Summer 2015, walking back from a friend's place at 3 am, the entire night unfolded from getting stalked by a stranger, twice my size in an
alley to him ripping my clothes and forcing himself on me. No screaming, no fighting, I watched the time go by so that if I was lucky I'll make it
home alive and wouldn't remember it the next day. For months, I blamed myself; maybe I shouldn't have been out so late, maybe I should have kicked
or screamed.

Rape and Sexual Violence Essay
Rape and Sexual Violence
Rape and sexual violence is a very serious problem that affects millions of people each year. Rape is someone taking advantage of another person
sexually. Sexual assault can be verbal, physical, visual, or anything that forces a person to join in unwanted sexual contact or attention. ("Sexual
Assault.") Rape is one of the most underreported crimes. In 2002, only thirty–nine percent of rapes and sexual assaults were reported to law officials.
("Sexual Violence: Fact Sheet.") Victims sometimes do not report that they have raped because of shame or feeling that it was their fault. It is never
the victim's fault. "Victim blaming" is holding the victim of a crime to be in a whole or in partly responsible for what had...show more content...
Women may also flirt with men but if later the women are victimized, that does no mean the rape was their fault because they were flirting. Just
because the victim does not fight back does not mean they are giving their consent. It most likely is because it might be the best way they can
protect themselves from further injury. Consent is when a person says it's permissible to have sex. They do not object to it so it is not considered
rape. ("Myths and Facts about Sexual Violence.") Some reasons that perpetrators rape or sexually abuse people is alcohol and drug use, sexual
fantasies, hostility towards women, witnesses family violence as a child, or has a childhood history of sexual abuse. Perpetrators of sexual violence
are at a high risk of committing the crime again. Most perpetrators of sexual violence are men. One hundred percent of rapes, ninety–two percent of
assaults, and ninety–seven percent of stalking acts were by men. ("Sexual Violence: Fact Sheet.")
In a number of criminal cases, men convicted of rape were found to have given Rohypnol to their victims. ("Carson–Dewitt.") Rohypnol is a drug that
is used medically; however, it has become a widely abused drug in many countries including the United
States. ("Carson–Dewitt.") Rohypnol is known as the "date rape drug" and can be slipped into a victim's drink unnoticed. ("Carson–Dewitt.") When
used properly, this drug is not dangerous, but illegal use can cause many

Well are they? The answer is no, they are not doing enough to prevent sexual assault and harassment. According to an article written by Angela Brauer
and published by Indianapolis' CBS 4, just in Indianapolis Public Schools last year as of 2016 the schools recorded 1,760 such allegations and within
only three months into the 2017 – 2018 school year there was more than 190 claims (Brauer). This straight out of the gate makes someone wonder how
can a number be so high if schools are allegedly taking action to prevent this. Here is an easy answer, they either aren't doing anything at all or they are
not doing enough. Brauer also mentions that, "While it requires school districts to report bullying and harassment cases, Indiana's Department of...show

Well if schools aren't doing enough to prevent sexual assault and harassment then what should they be doing in order to prevent it? Well that's a
question that an article by authors Poco Kernsmith, Joanne Smith–Darden, and Megan Hicks answer perfectly. One step towards reducing risks and
decreasing sexual violence would be investing in prevention programs that address the causes of sexually abusive behavior. These programs typically
focus on teaching girls to stick together at parties, or to be aware of their surroundings, and even some programs include self protection strategies.
However these programs prove to be ineffective because they, "fail to address the realities that most assaults are committed by someone known and
trusted". (Kernsmith, Smith–Darden, Hicks). While these programs may reduce some risks prevention should focus more on the potential perpetrator
versus the victim that can be harmed by them in the future. The article not only suggests that we need to educate those who can be the potential
perpetrator in order to have real prevention, it also says that in order to have real prevention we must rid of the false belief that sexual

Did you know according to the national sexual violence resource center, 1 in 5 women, and 1 in 16 men will face sexual assault during their time
at a college? And from rainn.org women in school are 3x more likely to face it than women out of school( ). Hopefully that's as frightening to you
as it is to me. It is important that one day these statistics are lowered to 0. Today, I want to give everyone more insight on how sexual assault can
be stopped by letting you know about the problems we face being in college when it comes to sexual assault and the laws and reasons that make it
difficult for victims to report. After stating the problems, I will present you with solutions and the benefits your actions will have. So, let's get started.
Because we are in college, most of us probably spend some weekends out at the bars, parties or other events where alcohol is presented. Around
89,000 cases of rape are reported annually and of those cases 7.2% occurs at parties or other events, according to statistic brain. To be put that in a
better Boone Pickens has 56,790 seats (O' Colly). So, that's almost 1.5 stadiums filled with people that have been sexually assaulted at a parties.
Just think about that for a moment, we ourselves either know people or are the people who go out and have too much to drink sometimes, but is
anybody asking to be belittled or taken advantage of? Being at social events make people less aware, especially when they are drinking, so their
guard is being put down, which is how they may be taken advantage of. Not only does sexual assault occur out at public events, but it also occurs in
people's private time as well. Put yourself in the shoes of someone who may just experienced sexual assault. Who did it to you? Someone you've
never met? Well, guess what if I told you it was your best friend, a relative, or your boyfriend/girlfriend. According to the National Institute of Justice,
approximately 90% of sexual assaults reported are committed by someone that they know ( ). You probably never thought of that, just as most victims
didn't. Because most victims do experience this from someone they know, an estimated 63% of sexual assaults are never reported, according to
NSRVC( ).

Essay on Violence
Violence is one of the most problematic issues society faces today, and it has been increasing day after day, in the streets of our cities. The most
common description of what violence really is can be given as negativity towards something or someone either through physical or verbal actions,
which often causes the victim to suffer pain. The different types of violence that exist in our multi–cultural society are out–numbered, but the most
evident ones are domestic, gang, sexual, and racial violence. While violence can definitely be reduced, it will never be eliminated due to the nature of
humans.
Domestic violence, also known as spousal abuse, occurs when a person in an intimate relationship or marriage tries to dominate and control...show more

On October 24 2000, a news article headline read, "Gang wars 6 Dead". This event had taken place in Etobicoke, and the news article contained
sentences like "Six victims in six months" and "calculated executions". It also contained terms like "Bloods" and "Crips". These terms and sentences
have officially crossed the border and have become all too familiar in Canadian cities. In order to cut back this outlaw behaviour, we need to educate
our youth about the ill effects of gangs, drugs, guns, and should try to persuade them to instead make friends with those who accept you for who you
are and use all their time in doing something positive and proactive. As a result of reducing and preventing gang violence, many cities have created
special task forces and given schools their own police officers.
Sexual violence is another form of violence that has plagued our cities. This crime involves violence that is specifically sexual in nature, to which the
victim does not give consent. According to 2005 statistics, 51% of all Canadian women have experienced at least one incident of sexual violence. 6
out of 10 victims who reported being sexually violated were under 17. These numbers are alarming and scary. It is extremely important to get rid of
such sinister crimes in our communities because it robs the victims of their innocence, self–esteem, confidence, and even trust in our society. The

Sexual Violence In America Essay
Sexual violence is a significant social and cultural problem within America and all over the world. Within the United States nearly 1 in 5 women– or
nearly 22 million – have been raped in their lifetimes. Arrest rates for sexual assault cases are low as they are hard to investigate because of the effects
of the trauma itself. According to the National Crime Victimization Survey, approximately 12% of the 283,200 annualrape or sexual assault
victimizations from year 2005–2010 resulted in an arrest at the scene or during a follow–up investigation. Findings from the same survey revealed that
more than one–third of women reported experiencing a sexual assault at some point during their lifetime. Within American society, rape constitutes an

These shows that most of time males are the victims of assaults not females. According to Russell Wynne in his article "Sexual Violence against Men
and Boys," Sexualised violence against men and boys can emerge in any form of conflict – from interstate wars to civil wars to localised conflicts –
and in any cultural context. Both men and boys are vulnerable in conflict settings and in countries of asylum alike. Both adult men and boys are
most vulnerable to sexual violence in detention. In some places over 50% of detainees reportedly experience sexualised torture. However, both adult
men and boys are also vulnerable during military operations in civilian areas and in situations of military conscription or abduction into paramilitary
forces. Boys, meanwhile, are also highly vulnerable in refugee/IDP settings. He also starts with a wonderful quote "It is well known that armed
conflict and sexual violence against women and girls often go hand in hand. What is less widely recognised is that armed conflict and its aftermath
also bring sexual danger for men and boys." This explains that society considers sexual violence against women's and girls more rapidly than that of
men's and

Interpersonal violence against perceived or a real weaker partner is a widespread incident. Sexual violence is a profoundly negative and traumatic
life event with widespread psychological and sociological effects on the victim irrespective of their gender. It often gives rise to a wide range of
negative emotions, embarrassment, and existential questions such as, "Why me?," and, "iIf I say something", will I be believed?" It increases feelings
of helplessness and powerlessness in the victim affecting their self– esteem and producing feelings which suggests that they may be vulnerable to
further violence. It is likely that the fear of sexual violence in women will restrict their freedom and occupational opportunities and affect their
long–term psychological well–being. In short, these types of situations create complete fear which is no way a person should have to live. When

Argumentative Essay About Sexual Assault
Are you okay? Please do not cry. You are not alone. You do not know me but I am listening; I will wipe your tears, and stand by your side. Because
what happen to you is not right, it is unjust, unmoral, and revolting. Although I was not there, I am here now. Although I have not experienced it, I am
listening. However, I will never truly understand what you went through because I have not lived it. Sexual assault is "illegal sexual contact that usually
involves force upon a person without consent or is inflicting upon a person who is incapable of giving consent", according to Webster Dictionary. I
will not judge you, I will not patronize you, and you can trust me. What happened that night? Can you remember? What started out as a fun night with
drinking and dancing; ended with your cold naked body lying upon the ground. You were intoxicated, incoherent, and unconscious. Your blood alcohol
level and your dashing good looks should not make you vulnerable or a victim to inhumane acts of sexual violence.
Where you at a party? What were you wearing? Who did you go with? Where you drinking? Where you flirting with anyone? Quite frankly, it does
not matter where you were, what you wearing, who you were with, and if you were intoxicated. That does not justify that you were sexually assaulted.
Your perpetrators "misunderstanding" of the night is a poor excuse of how the night ended. The way you dressed that night, how you swayed you hips,

Sexual Violence Sociology
Any behavior or physical contact of any sexual form that causes an individual to be uncomfortable is sexual violence. This occurs in situations
whereby an individual is taken advantage of or is coerced, taken by force or by use of manipulation to participate in undesirable sexual acts. This can
be in the form of acts of rape, incest or sexual abuse against children. Sexual violence causes intense trauma that surpasses the damages caused
physically. It causes a great shift in the victim and interferes with their personality, their trust towards others and causes them to question the kind of
world they live in. Sexual violence symbolizes the distraction of one's ability to control their life, feelings of unsafety in the world, and lack of trust

reflective, having a sense of clarity, ability to paraphrase, positivity and being able to reframe. The various way in which support can be portrayed

them that they have a safe place to stay, giving the necessary information and providing resources for dealing with immediate problems and pressing

I never dared to dream that I would be able to piece my life together after experiencing domestic and sexual violence. I was a student then and by the
time the violence caused me to be unable to attend my classes, the withdrawal deadline had already passed. I was too afraid to talk to my professors or
University officials about my situation. After I failed the semester and dropped out of University of Alaska, I was able to end that relationship and
move back home to Springfield, Virginia. I got a job in retail and a new relationship with someone I would find out was even worse.

That's when I noticed that there was a comment from Nassim Taleb on the front, saying "If you're not a mathematician this book might make youwant

Imagine beginning your day with a comfortable pair of sweatpants matched with a loose fitted t–shirt. It is just like every other day, you go to school,
see your friends, and enjoy your day. There is just one thing different, you take a ride with a male friend. You are not afraid, nothing could happen to
you, you are perfectly safe. The next thing you know he's on top of you, forcing himself onto and into you. This type of behavior is known as sexual
assault, which is defined as "any type of sexual contact or behavior that occurs without the explicit consent of the recipient" (Department of Justice).
Sexual assault has become an increasing issue in the world according to the Huffington Post, "2,780,000 (is) the estimated number of men who have
experienced an attempted or completed rape since 1998" (Alanna Vagianos). Some believe that the number of sexual assault is increasing due to the
population growing, others believe that sexual assault cases increasing is a result of the increase in reports in general. Due to the increase in mental
issues among millennials, an increase in crime such as sexual assault has become a larger issue, heavily affecting the way society is balanced.
Sexual assault is an extremely large issue in today's society, most are aware of this; however, the public has not set guidelines to prevent sexual
assault. According to a study titled "Students' Perceptions of Sexual Violence Resources," there are many resources campuses try to offer to students.
One campus has begun to draw attention to a link between alcohol and sexual assault. A student reports seeing posters around campus with slogans
such as: 'no means no, and if there is alcohol involved yes means no too.' Nationwide, most college campuses have physical resources to prevent
sexual assault such as safety lights and call boxes. Some campuses allow security officers to escort and transport a student if one requests. Campuses
also provide programs to educate students about preventing sexual violence. Other resources include online resources, counselors, and therapists. If all
these resources are available, how are sexual assault cases reported so frequently?

Sexual violence is detrimental towards its victims. The act itself is damaging for many reasons and that individual's life will be forever changed,
however society often plays a big role as to why it is so harmful as well. The victim can often be looked at negatively as if they deserved what
happened to them. The first questions that will be asked when telling anyone will be, what were you wearing? How much did you drink? Did you say
no? Did you fight back? The fear of all the judgement alone can convince the individual not to discuss what has happened to them. Not talking about it
can make the outcome much more severe because they are dealing with it alone. Often sexual violence results in the victim developing depression, post

Along with that, in most cases the person that was assaulted does not feel that they can tell the school or other authority what happened because they
have doubts their school's actions involving sexual violence, which allows the offender to get away with out any consequences. Furthermore, the
schools themselves appear to want to keep the incidents hidden or quiet so they may not always feel like a welcoming place to come and report to.
The individual that comes in to make a report of sexual violence will more than likely want some form of justice and the universities may not be able
or willing to do what is needed in every case. This happens because the schools want to keep the number of incident reports low so that it does not give
a bad image and deter other students from coming to their institution. As time goes on the government and other authorities are creating more rules and
regulations that the institutions must follow. They still allow the specific school to make their own methods of handling certain situations however

The research study that was done by Decker, Raj, and Silverman which focused on the impacts of sexual violence in teenage girls. This research study
hits on a major social issue that happens throughout society that has been going for many decades now, it emphases whether or not immigration and
acculturation are related factors in sexual violence amongst this age group. Sexual Violence and victimization is a topic that we study on in the school
of social work at Ryerson, as we take an anti–oppressive approach to social issues that happen around the world. Violence against women has been a
topic explored by several researchers over the years. Unfortunately, they never studied sexual violence against adolescent girls who come from
immigrated families. Violence against women can happen in many different forms such as physical, sexual, emotional or psychological (The Line,
2016). As social workers, we need to make sure that the service users have access to all the services that they need "spanning outreach, primary and
secondary prevention education, medical advocacy, legal services, and crisis counseling, to meet the needs of immigrant adolescents experiencing
sexual assault." (Decker, Raj, & Silverman, 2007).
This study used a quantitative approach to research as this was just based on numerical data that was collected through small groups or done
individually by participants. Quantitative analysis allows us to "to determine how thing affects another in a population."

Gender–based violence is understood, explained, or justified in terms of gender roles, gender difference, or gender inequality. Most of the violence is
perpetrated by men against women. Gender–based violence is often physical abuse, often involving sexuality, but it may also be psychological. Violence
against women occurs in every segment of society. It doesn't matter what class your in (upper, middle, lower), ethnicity (Black, White, Hispanic, Asian),

Although most of the public attention to sexual harassment has focused on specific relations within workplaces, harassment also takes place in
public places among strangers. This shows how commonly women are subjected to "abuse, harryings, and annoyances" on the basis of their gender,

harassment outlined by Carol Brooks Gardner. The types are exclusionary (discouraged from entering a specific place), exploitative (when men
following women around and invade their privacy), and evaluative (unwanted evaluations of their bodies, hair, or clothing). Often this behavior is
trivialized as "people are just playing around" or "just trying to be helpful". These types of experiences results in women being fearful of going into
public places. Even though sexual harassment laws have become stricter, most women still do not complain about it for rear that they would be
penalized for complaining. Harassment amounts simply to taking the gender–based communication, which is easy for men to fall into the habit of
engaging in behavior that women find offensive and harmful (Sapiro, 397). Sexual harassment has taken on more specific legal

I choose this topic because sexual assault is one of the most offensive crimes committed in our society. Not only is it a threat to the community, but it
has a physically and psychologically effect on the victim in many ways. For the last couple of decades, sexual assault, rape, and child molestation has
become the focal point of public concerns today. According to a 1993 NationalCrime Victimization Survey conducted by the U.S. Department of

The Violence against Women Act (VAWA) of 1994 marked a turning point in our national response to the problems of both sexual assault and
domestic
violence. For the first time it considered the ways in which sexual assault and domestic violence were similar: they are both crimes of violence against
women, rooted in historical and cultural traditions and attitudes. VAWA also addressed the ways our laws failed to prosecute and punish perpetrators of
these crimes of violence, while often increasing the trauma experienced by victims. The act included measures designed to protect crime victims' rights
and provide crime victims with compensation, establish hotlines for sexual assault and family violence victims, establish sex offender registration and
community notification, protect women from "date rape," and coordinate law enforcement and social services to deal with crime in a unified manner.

Domestic violence, also labeled as family violence and intimate–partner violence, is psychological, physical and sexual violence that takes place within
home environment. Adults and children can both be victims. Domestic violence is a major human rights issue across the world, and one of New
Zealand's most serious social issues. One in three women in Aotearoa will experience an abusive relationship, with many more coming dangerously

Reason Domestic violences occurs when the abuser wanting to rule their other half because they have low self–esteem, easily jealous, struggling to

Ecological Theory was coined by Urie Bronfenbrenner during 1917–2005. This theory attempts to link violence in the family to the broader social
environment. This includes the culture, the formal and informal social networks of the family, the closer family setting and circumstances, and the
family history. This type of framework sets up a basis for a risk–theory of domestic assault based on the given criteria
Some of the abusers are with very traditional beliefs that believe that it is appropriate to take charge of their partner, and that women are not equal to

Argumentative Essay On Sexual Violence

  • 1. Argumentative Essay On Sexual Violence A middle aged business man holding a leather briefcase, dressed in a sleek black tailored suit, wearing a gold watch that clasps on his wrist, walks into a gas station located in the run down part of town holding a leather briefcase. After entering and paying the cashier for the gas he is about to put into his newest edition sports car, another man walks in with a gun. The robber demands the business man's watch and all the money in his wallet. After the businessman safely makes it to the police station, he begins calling his family and friends to share the incident. His audience only responds with the usual responds to a crime, "Oh my goodness, how tragic" or "They need to catch the robber so he can spend time in jail." Not once did they question what he was wearing or blame it on his expensive attire. Not once did they ask if he said anything to lead the robber to make him think it was okay or if he was telling the truth. In this situation the victim is not being blamed for the incident, but today in many sexual assault cases society has tried to turn the blame from the attacker to the victim. Sexual assault and rape is a major issue luring over America and the rest of the world and society is playing a major role in the degrading the seriousness of it. Society has normalized sexual assault by trying to blame the conditions on what the victim was wearing or their prior activities of the night. Society reduces assault to a "normal" behaviors of the sexes. The common uses Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Sexual Violence: A Victim Analysis For the past 2 years, I have gotten the opportunity to share about being a victim of sexual violence. Being able to talk on it should make it feel easier to overcome but, in my experience I've never felt more like; a liar, more silenced and vulnerable than the times I have spoken on my sexual assault and rape. Summer 2015, walking back from a friend's place at 3 am, the entire night unfolded from getting stalked by a stranger, twice my size in an alley to him ripping my clothes and forcing himself on me. No screaming, no fighting, I watched the time go by so that if I was lucky I'll make it home alive and wouldn't remember it the next day. For months, I blamed myself; maybe I shouldn't have been out so late, maybe I should have kicked or screamed. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Rape and Sexual Violence Essay Rape and Sexual Violence Rape and sexual violence is a very serious problem that affects millions of people each year. Rape is someone taking advantage of another person sexually. Sexual assault can be verbal, physical, visual, or anything that forces a person to join in unwanted sexual contact or attention. ("Sexual Assault.") Rape is one of the most underreported crimes. In 2002, only thirty–nine percent of rapes and sexual assaults were reported to law officials. ("Sexual Violence: Fact Sheet.") Victims sometimes do not report that they have raped because of shame or feeling that it was their fault. It is never the victim's fault. "Victim blaming" is holding the victim of a crime to be in a whole or in partly responsible for what had...show more content... Women may also flirt with men but if later the women are victimized, that does no mean the rape was their fault because they were flirting. Just because the victim does not fight back does not mean they are giving their consent. It most likely is because it might be the best way they can protect themselves from further injury. Consent is when a person says it's permissible to have sex. They do not object to it so it is not considered rape. ("Myths and Facts about Sexual Violence.") Some reasons that perpetrators rape or sexually abuse people is alcohol and drug use, sexual fantasies, hostility towards women, witnesses family violence as a child, or has a childhood history of sexual abuse. Perpetrators of sexual violence are at a high risk of committing the crime again. Most perpetrators of sexual violence are men. One hundred percent of rapes, ninety–two percent of assaults, and ninety–seven percent of stalking acts were by men. ("Sexual Violence: Fact Sheet.") In a number of criminal cases, men convicted of rape were found to have given Rohypnol to their victims. ("Carson–Dewitt.") Rohypnol is a drug that is used medically; however, it has become a widely abused drug in many countries including the United States. ("Carson–Dewitt.") Rohypnol is known as the "date rape drug" and can be slipped into a victim's drink unnoticed. ("Carson–Dewitt.") When used properly, this drug is not dangerous, but illegal use can cause many Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Sexual Violence Essay Well are they? The answer is no, they are not doing enough to prevent sexual assault and harassment. According to an article written by Angela Brauer and published by Indianapolis' CBS 4, just in Indianapolis Public Schools last year as of 2016 the schools recorded 1,760 such allegations and within only three months into the 2017 – 2018 school year there was more than 190 claims (Brauer). This straight out of the gate makes someone wonder how can a number be so high if schools are allegedly taking action to prevent this. Here is an easy answer, they either aren't doing anything at all or they are not doing enough. Brauer also mentions that, "While it requires school districts to report bullying and harassment cases, Indiana's Department of...show more content... Well if schools aren't doing enough to prevent sexual assault and harassment then what should they be doing in order to prevent it? Well that's a question that an article by authors Poco Kernsmith, Joanne Smith–Darden, and Megan Hicks answer perfectly. One step towards reducing risks and decreasing sexual violence would be investing in prevention programs that address the causes of sexually abusive behavior. These programs typically focus on teaching girls to stick together at parties, or to be aware of their surroundings, and even some programs include self protection strategies. However these programs prove to be ineffective because they, "fail to address the realities that most assaults are committed by someone known and trusted". (Kernsmith, Smith–Darden, Hicks). While these programs may reduce some risks prevention should focus more on the potential perpetrator versus the victim that can be harmed by them in the future. The article not only suggests that we need to educate those who can be the potential perpetrator in order to have real prevention, it also says that in order to have real prevention we must rid of the false belief that sexual Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Persuasive Speech On Sexual Assault Did you know according to the national sexual violence resource center, 1 in 5 women, and 1 in 16 men will face sexual assault during their time at a college? And from rainn.org women in school are 3x more likely to face it than women out of school( ). Hopefully that's as frightening to you as it is to me. It is important that one day these statistics are lowered to 0. Today, I want to give everyone more insight on how sexual assault can be stopped by letting you know about the problems we face being in college when it comes to sexual assault and the laws and reasons that make it difficult for victims to report. After stating the problems, I will present you with solutions and the benefits your actions will have. So, let's get started. Because we are in college, most of us probably spend some weekends out at the bars, parties or other events where alcohol is presented. Around 89,000 cases of rape are reported annually and of those cases 7.2% occurs at parties or other events, according to statistic brain. To be put that in a better Boone Pickens has 56,790 seats (O' Colly). So, that's almost 1.5 stadiums filled with people that have been sexually assaulted at a parties. Just think about that for a moment, we ourselves either know people or are the people who go out and have too much to drink sometimes, but is anybody asking to be belittled or taken advantage of? Being at social events make people less aware, especially when they are drinking, so their guard is being put down, which is how they may be taken advantage of. Not only does sexual assault occur out at public events, but it also occurs in people's private time as well. Put yourself in the shoes of someone who may just experienced sexual assault. Who did it to you? Someone you've never met? Well, guess what if I told you it was your best friend, a relative, or your boyfriend/girlfriend. According to the National Institute of Justice, approximately 90% of sexual assaults reported are committed by someone that they know ( ). You probably never thought of that, just as most victims didn't. Because most victims do experience this from someone they know, an estimated 63% of sexual assaults are never reported, according to NSRVC( ). So why Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Essay on Violence Violence is one of the most problematic issues society faces today, and it has been increasing day after day, in the streets of our cities. The most common description of what violence really is can be given as negativity towards something or someone either through physical or verbal actions, which often causes the victim to suffer pain. The different types of violence that exist in our multi–cultural society are out–numbered, but the most evident ones are domestic, gang, sexual, and racial violence. While violence can definitely be reduced, it will never be eliminated due to the nature of humans. Domestic violence, also known as spousal abuse, occurs when a person in an intimate relationship or marriage tries to dominate and control...show more content... On October 24 2000, a news article headline read, "Gang wars 6 Dead". This event had taken place in Etobicoke, and the news article contained sentences like "Six victims in six months" and "calculated executions". It also contained terms like "Bloods" and "Crips". These terms and sentences have officially crossed the border and have become all too familiar in Canadian cities. In order to cut back this outlaw behaviour, we need to educate our youth about the ill effects of gangs, drugs, guns, and should try to persuade them to instead make friends with those who accept you for who you are and use all their time in doing something positive and proactive. As a result of reducing and preventing gang violence, many cities have created special task forces and given schools their own police officers. Sexual violence is another form of violence that has plagued our cities. This crime involves violence that is specifically sexual in nature, to which the victim does not give consent. According to 2005 statistics, 51% of all Canadian women have experienced at least one incident of sexual violence. 6 out of 10 victims who reported being sexually violated were under 17. These numbers are alarming and scary. It is extremely important to get rid of such sinister crimes in our communities because it robs the victims of their innocence, self–esteem, confidence, and even trust in our society. • 7. Sexual Violence In America Essay Sexual violence is a significant social and cultural problem within America and all over the world. Within the United States nearly 1 in 5 women– or nearly 22 million – have been raped in their lifetimes. Arrest rates for sexual assault cases are low as they are hard to investigate because of the effects of the trauma itself. According to the National Crime Victimization Survey, approximately 12% of the 283,200 annualrape or sexual assault victimizations from year 2005–2010 resulted in an arrest at the scene or during a follow–up investigation. Findings from the same survey revealed that more than one–third of women reported experiencing a sexual assault at some point during their lifetime. Within American society, rape constitutes an experience...show more content... These shows that most of time males are the victims of assaults not females. According to Russell Wynne in his article "Sexual Violence against Men and Boys," Sexualised violence against men and boys can emerge in any form of conflict – from interstate wars to civil wars to localised conflicts – and in any cultural context. Both men and boys are vulnerable in conflict settings and in countries of asylum alike. Both adult men and boys are most vulnerable to sexual violence in detention. In some places over 50% of detainees reportedly experience sexualised torture. However, both adult men and boys are also vulnerable during military operations in civilian areas and in situations of military conscription or abduction into paramilitary forces. Boys, meanwhile, are also highly vulnerable in refugee/IDP settings. He also starts with a wonderful quote "It is well known that armed conflict and sexual violence against women and girls often go hand in hand. What is less widely recognised is that armed conflict and its aftermath also bring sexual danger for men and boys." This explains that society considers sexual violence against women's and girls more rapidly than that of men's and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Interpersonal violence against perceived or a real weaker partner is a widespread incident. Sexual violence is a profoundly negative and traumatic life event with widespread psychological and sociological effects on the victim irrespective of their gender. It often gives rise to a wide range of negative emotions, embarrassment, and existential questions such as, "Why me?," and, "iIf I say something", will I be believed?" It increases feelings of helplessness and powerlessness in the victim affecting their self– esteem and producing feelings which suggests that they may be vulnerable to further violence. It is likely that the fear of sexual violence in women will restrict their freedom and occupational opportunities and affect their long–term psychological well–being. In short, these types of situations create complete fear which is no way a person should have to live. When police come to a domestic violence scenethe scene of domestic violence it is one person's word against another unless the crime has been witnessed. Even though there are laws to help protect the victim, an adaptation of said laws is used in court to allow the accused to walk free. Sexual assault consists of many different things such as rape, sexual battery and sexual harassment. These are just a few of offenses that occur every day regardless of your gender, race or age. This happens at home, in the workplace, and social media just to name a few. The current Tennessee classificationslaws on Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Argumentative Essay About Sexual Assault Are you okay? Please do not cry. You are not alone. You do not know me but I am listening; I will wipe your tears, and stand by your side. Because what happen to you is not right, it is unjust, unmoral, and revolting. Although I was not there, I am here now. Although I have not experienced it, I am listening. However, I will never truly understand what you went through because I have not lived it. Sexual assault is "illegal sexual contact that usually involves force upon a person without consent or is inflicting upon a person who is incapable of giving consent", according to Webster Dictionary. I will not judge you, I will not patronize you, and you can trust me. What happened that night? Can you remember? What started out as a fun night with drinking and dancing; ended with your cold naked body lying upon the ground. You were intoxicated, incoherent, and unconscious. Your blood alcohol level and your dashing good looks should not make you vulnerable or a victim to inhumane acts of sexual violence. Where you at a party? What were you wearing? Who did you go with? Where you drinking? Where you flirting with anyone? Quite frankly, it does not matter where you were, what you wearing, who you were with, and if you were intoxicated. That does not justify that you were sexually assaulted. Your perpetrators "misunderstanding" of the night is a poor excuse of how the night ended. The way you dressed that night, how you swayed you hips, and batted your eyelashes earlier in the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Sexual Violence Sociology Any behavior or physical contact of any sexual form that causes an individual to be uncomfortable is sexual violence. This occurs in situations whereby an individual is taken advantage of or is coerced, taken by force or by use of manipulation to participate in undesirable sexual acts. This can be in the form of acts of rape, incest or sexual abuse against children. Sexual violence causes intense trauma that surpasses the damages caused physically. It causes a great shift in the victim and interferes with their personality, their trust towards others and causes them to question the kind of world they live in. Good advocacy relations should entail supporting, accepting and empathizing. Skills that supportive advocacy possess entail being reflective, having a sense of clarity, ability to paraphrase, positivity and being able to reframe. The various way in which support can be portrayed include the reassurance of the victim that it was not their fault, whatever actions they might have taken were right because they survived, affirming them that they have a safe place to stay, giving the necessary information and providing resources for dealing with immediate problems and pressing needs. It is also very crucial for the advocacy to show acceptance to the victims and this can be expressed in several ways: body language will be very clear nonverbally, encouraging victims to express themselves by providing them with a friendly atmosphere and a listening ear and giving the victim space to do it at their own Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 13. Sexual Violence-Personal Narrative I never dared to dream that I would be able to piece my life together after experiencing domestic and sexual violence. I was a student then and by the time the violence caused me to be unable to attend my classes, the withdrawal deadline had already passed. I was too afraid to talk to my professors or University officials about my situation. After I failed the semester and dropped out of University of Alaska, I was able to end that relationship and move back home to Springfield, Virginia. I got a job in retail and a new relationship with someone I would find out was even worse. Within a few months, I realized that this would be the rest of my life if I did not get an education: working retail and being stuck in relationships that I did not...show more content... I was aimless, until shortly after the Christmas of 2013. I had left work, but wasn't quite ready to go home yet, so I stopped by the bookstore. The store was almost completely empty–most people had already bought the items they wanted and returned the items that they didn't and the exceptionally bitter December wind deterred everyone else. While I taking a shortcut through the abandoned mathematics section, a blue cover caught my eye. When I picked it up, I saw that it was titled Love and Math, was written by an Edward Frenkel from the University of California, Berkeley, and unlike other math books, it had no spiral or Mobius strip on the cover. Instead, there was a Vincent van Gogh painting. Love, math, and Vincent van Gogh didn't seem to mix and I went to put the book back on the shelf. That's when I noticed that there was a comment from Nassim Taleb on the front, saying "If you're not a mathematician this book might make youwant to become one." With that comment, the book had gone from just "weird" to "intriguing". I did need direction in my life and the quote almost seemed like a dare–I had never wanted to be a mathematician and I didn't think any book could change Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Essay On Sexual Assault Imagine beginning your day with a comfortable pair of sweatpants matched with a loose fitted t–shirt. It is just like every other day, you go to school, see your friends, and enjoy your day. There is just one thing different, you take a ride with a male friend. You are not afraid, nothing could happen to you, you are perfectly safe. The next thing you know he's on top of you, forcing himself onto and into you. This type of behavior is known as sexual assault, which is defined as "any type of sexual contact or behavior that occurs without the explicit consent of the recipient" (Department of Justice). Sexual assault has become an increasing issue in the world according to the Huffington Post, "2,780,000 (is) the estimated number of men who have experienced an attempted or completed rape since 1998" (Alanna Vagianos). Some believe that the number of sexual assault is increasing due to the population growing, others believe that sexual assault cases increasing is a result of the increase in reports in general. Due to the increase in mental issues among millennials, an increase in crime such as sexual assault has become a larger issue, heavily affecting the way society is balanced. Sexual assault is an extremely large issue in today's society, most are aware of this; however, the public has not set guidelines to prevent sexual assault. According to a study titled "Students' Perceptions of Sexual Violence Resources," there are many resources campuses try to offer to students. One campus has begun to draw attention to a link between alcohol and sexual assault. A student reports seeing posters around campus with slogans such as: 'no means no, and if there is alcohol involved yes means no too.' Nationwide, most college campuses have physical resources to prevent sexual assault such as safety lights and call boxes. Some campuses allow security officers to escort and transport a student if one requests. Campuses also provide programs to educate students about preventing sexual violence. Other resources include online resources, counselors, and therapists. If all these resources are available, how are sexual assault cases reported so frequently? Society has constructed several standards that makes sexual Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Sexual Violence Sociology Sexual violence is detrimental towards its victims. The act itself is damaging for many reasons and that individual's life will be forever changed, however society often plays a big role as to why it is so harmful as well. The victim can often be looked at negatively as if they deserved what happened to them. The first questions that will be asked when telling anyone will be, what were you wearing? How much did you drink? Did you say no? Did you fight back? The fear of all the judgement alone can convince the individual not to discuss what has happened to them. Not talking about it can make the outcome much more severe because they are dealing with it alone. Often sexual violence results in the victim developing depression, post traumatic stress...show more content... Along with that, in most cases the person that was assaulted does not feel that they can tell the school or other authority what happened because they have doubts their school's actions involving sexual violence, which allows the offender to get away with out any consequences. Furthermore, the schools themselves appear to want to keep the incidents hidden or quiet so they may not always feel like a welcoming place to come and report to. The individual that comes in to make a report of sexual violence will more than likely want some form of justice and the universities may not be able or willing to do what is needed in every case. This happens because the schools want to keep the number of incident reports low so that it does not give a bad image and deter other students from coming to their institution. As time goes on the government and other authorities are creating more rules and regulations that the institutions must follow. They still allow the specific school to make their own methods of handling certain situations however there are a few items that are Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Purpose: The research study that was done by Decker, Raj, and Silverman which focused on the impacts of sexual violence in teenage girls. This research study hits on a major social issue that happens throughout society that has been going for many decades now, it emphases whether or not immigration and acculturation are related factors in sexual violence amongst this age group. Sexual Violence and victimization is a topic that we study on in the school of social work at Ryerson, as we take an anti–oppressive approach to social issues that happen around the world. Violence against women has been a topic explored by several researchers over the years. Unfortunately, they never studied sexual violence against adolescent girls who come from immigrated families. Violence against women can happen in many different forms such as physical, sexual, emotional or psychological (The Line, 2016). As social workers, we need to make sure that the service users have access to all the services that they need "spanning outreach, primary and secondary prevention education, medical advocacy, legal services, and crisis counseling, to meet the needs of immigrant adolescents experiencing sexual assault." (Decker, Raj, & Silverman, 2007). This study used a quantitative approach to research as this was just based on numerical data that was collected through small groups or done individually by participants. Quantitative analysis allows us to "to determine how thing affects another in a population." Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Gender-Based Violence Essay Gender Base Violence ENG 122 Alfred Penny Jr. Saint Leo College Gender–based Violence Gender–based violence is understood, explained, or justified in terms of gender roles, gender difference, or gender inequality. Most of the violence is perpetrated by men against women. Gender–based violence is often physical abuse, often involving sexuality, but it may also be psychological. Violence against women occurs in every segment of society. It doesn't matter what class your in (upper, middle, lower), ethnicity (Black, White, Hispanic, Asian), culture (African–American, German, French), or country (Europe, United States). Various forms of violence and coercion are against women. Most of these crimes against women are...show more content... Although most of the public attention to sexual harassment has focused on specific relations within workplaces, harassment also takes place in public places among strangers. This shows how commonly women are subjected to "abuse, harryings, and annoyances" on the basis of their gender, in spaces that are supposed to be open to everyone states Carol Brooks Gardner who studied public harassment. There are three types of public harassment outlined by Carol Brooks Gardner. The types are exclusionary (discouraged from entering a specific place), exploitative (when men following women around and invade their privacy), and evaluative (unwanted evaluations of their bodies, hair, or clothing). Often this behavior is trivialized as "people are just playing around" or "just trying to be helpful". These types of experiences results in women being fearful of going into public places. Even though sexual harassment laws have become stricter, most women still do not complain about it for rear that they would be penalized for complaining. Harassment amounts simply to taking the gender–based communication, which is easy for men to fall into the habit of engaging in behavior that women find offensive and harmful (Sapiro, 397). Sexual harassment has taken on more specific legal

  • 19. Sexual Assault Against Women Essay Sexual Assault against Women I choose this topic because sexual assault is one of the most offensive crimes committed in our society. Not only is it a threat to the community, but it has a physically and psychologically effect on the victim in many ways. For the last couple of decades, sexual assault, rape, and child molestation has become the focal point of public concerns today. According to a 1993 NationalCrime Victimization Survey conducted by the U.S. Department of Justice, about 500,000 rapes or sexual assaults occur each year (Statistics, March 2010). The Department of Justice states that, "rape crimes have risen nearly three times as fast as the total crime rate", although other studies have shown statistics that are in...show more content... This is just a fine example of the recollection of a victim. The Violence against Women Act (VAWA) of 1994 marked a turning point in our national response to the problems of both sexual assault and domestic violence. For the first time it considered the ways in which sexual assault and domestic violence were similar: they are both crimes of violence against women, rooted in historical and cultural traditions and attitudes. VAWA also addressed the ways our laws failed to prosecute and punish perpetrators of these crimes of violence, while often increasing the trauma experienced by victims. The act included measures designed to protect crime victims' rights and provide crime victims with compensation, establish hotlines for sexual assault and family violence victims, establish sex offender registration and community notification, protect women from "date rape," and coordinate law enforcement and social services to deal with crime in a unified manner. VAWA is a wide –ranging law which, among other things, mandated research into sexual and domestic violence, funded community efforts against sexual and domestic violence through grants, proposed changes in the evaluation and determination of evidence, affirmed victims' rights of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 20. Domestic Violence And Sexual Violence Essay Domestic violence, also labeled as family violence and intimate–partner violence, is psychological, physical and sexual violence that takes place within home environment. Adults and children can both be victims. Domestic violence is a major human rights issue across the world, and one of New Zealand's most serious social issues. This includes the culture, the formal and informal social networks of the family, the closer family setting and circumstances, and the family history. This type of framework sets up a basis for a risk–theory of domestic assault based on the given criteria Some of the abusers are with very traditional beliefs that believe that it is appropriate to take charge of their partner, and that women are not equal to men.
