2. Who is your target audience?
Young men seem to be one of the main
audiences for Urban Drama Films as it's exciting
and ruthless and gives the audience an insight
on gang life. Also young adults from 14 upwards
possibly from London would be interested
possibly by the Urban Drama genre as it shows
them what actually occurs near where they live.
3. Questionnaire – Survey Monkey
For our audience research, I used the website
survey monkey to distribute a questionnaire.
This helped me significantly as it was easy
access for my target audience and allowed
me to put the feedback easily into graphs.
4. Questionnaire - Feedback
Here are some examples of the audience feedback from using
the source, survey monkey.
On the top left, is the different replies to, ‘what you would expect
to see in an Urban Drama poster’ question. This question was
extremely useful during the production process of my poster and
magazine front cover as I referred to these responses multiple
times during construction. Also, it gave me greater understanding
of what mise-en-scene to incorporate in the iconography of the
trailer, poster and magazine.
The feedback in the bottom left corner, helped significantly with
the colour scheme of
the poster and
magazine.
Finally, the last question
gave me an insight to
what type of urban
drama is preferred by
the demographic, as an
Urban Drama film can
fit into many different
pockets. It also helped
with the structure and
storyline of the trailer.
5. Questionnaire - Feedback
We asked the target audience, from a list of Urban
Drama films, ‘what ones they have seen and liked’.
We purposely ask which one they ‘liked’ so we could
see the top Urban Drama films and focus on the
aspects they include. ‘Kidulthood’ was clearly the
most popular answer which reflects back to previous
questions. From this information it is evident that a
gang type of story line is preferred in genres
audience and we used this infomation.
This question was very useful as it sparked many
ideas on what to involve and base the trailer
around as this is what the target audience think of
when hearing the words 'Urban Drama'. Some
responses were: ‘violence’, ‘estates’, ‘crime’ etc. As
you can see we have taken this information in and
used it throughout the whole trailer.
6. Audience Mood Board & Brainstorm
This is my genre mood board showing the
genre, Urban Drama that significantly relates
to the target audience. These images consist
of the clothing, foods, music and technology
the target audience relates to signifying. From
completing this I felt that I gained some
knowledge of what mise-en-scene could be
involved in each production & what the
audience find appealing.
This is the brainstorm based around
the genre, Urban Drama. It highlighted
all the key aspects of the audience we
were targeting. This allowed us to
directly link this information with the
trailer, poster and magazine.
7. Trailer Feedback
We decided to show everyone the clips that we had
previously filmed (not edited fully) to gain some
reference of what was good and what we needed to
improve on. We recorded this feedback and some
responses were:
“need more dialogue scenes”
“when filming the shots, extend them for editing”
“more close-up shots”
These comments were crucial as from the critical
feedback we went and took more shots in relation to
their comments which improved our trailer significantly.
8. Trailer, Poster and Magazine
Throughout the construction of filming and
editing, we also received feedback from our
class teacher, students and unknown people
(YouTube viewers). This was very helpful as they
gave critical, honest opinions on what we done
and what needs to be added/improved. This
prove to be effective feedback as it allowed us
to make our trailer look more impressive and
professional.
