Introduction: Today I will persuading my audience the benefits of getting adog as a pet. Dogs can offer companionship, protection and even improve
your health. Sixty eight percent of U.S households own a pet according to the 2017–2018 National Pet Owners Survey calculated by American Pet
Products Association (APPA), and majority of the pets owned are dogs, weighing in at sixty percent. Dogs are domesticated animals that consist of
various breeds such as Yorkie Terriers, German shepherds and more. There are over three hundred breeds according to the World Canine organization.
This organization is the largest registry of certified dog breeds. This canine organization recognizes three hundred and thirty nine breeds of dogs
which are classified into ten groups based on the dog's function or size. There are various unique breeds that can fit into one's specific lifestyle, giving
no excuse not to have a dog to compliment ones personality.
Main point one: Companionship is important to have in your life, even if it comes from your dog. When life gets stressful it's nice to have a
companion to play with, take a walk with or even cheer you up. Companionship can be hard to come by with humans sometimes and easily found
in dogs. While their personalities vary according to the breed of the dog, one characteristic remains the same, their loyalty. Dogs make great
listeners, maybe because they can't tell you to stop talking, but either way they seem to listen with interest. Many dog owners find themselves

good, or if I was upset. When I was in third grade, we got another dog, Oscar, and everything changed. He is a German Wirehair Pointer, they are bred
to be hunting dogs. Now I had two dogs to play with.
During the school day, before my younger brother, Wyatt, had started Kindergarten, he and my
I started to spend more time with Oscar and he became the dog I went to when I was depressed or something was wrong.
All of the sudden, Boomer stopped eating and wouldn't stand up to go outside. I was scared that my dog would die. A couple of days later he did.
I recall waking up and him being gone. I asked my mom, "Where is Boomer?" and she answered, "Your dad and grandpa took him to the vet to be
put down." I started crying as soon as she gave me this tragic news. Boomer dying was one of the worst things that has happened in my life. At
school that day, I told Will all about it. I cried at school and didn't want to do anything. I wanted his food and water bowl taken away so I would
forget all about what happened. Most mornings I would wake up crying about Boomer. I would dream of him most nights as well. My dad was very
upset with Boomer dying too. He would talk to my mom about him a lot. I was upset for about a week when Boomer died.
One day, Oscar and I went outside to throw around the dove. It brought me some relief that I still had Oscar to play with. I hung out with Oscar
more than ever before. He would lay down with me, go outside with me, and follow me like a shadow. Oscar was upset too. He never barked before
and now he would howl and bark like crazy because he was looking for Boomer. I spent more and more time with Oscar and he became my new best
friend.

The Life Of A Dog Essay
Ever since I was a child, when I would return home I always looked forward to that fluffy, "ball of fur" who ran to the door every time I walked into
the house, jumping in circles, wagging his or her tail relentlessly with a big smile on its sweet, furry face. That would instantly put a smile on my face,
no matter how bad my day was.
Growing up, we always had a dog in the family. Each one lived a long life in dog years, and each dog we had was as much a member of the family as
any human member. First, there was BJ (Figure 1). He was a "mutt" my mother adopted while in college, and was part of the package deal" when
she got married. I was still quite young when BJ passed, but I was old enough to have a million pictures and vivid memories of our time together.
What I remember most about BJ, was he never barked . . . literally, never. A few years after BJ passed, we adopted Toby (Figure 2), a black Labrador
/German Shepard mix. She was a beautiful, soft–furred dog who was as gentle as she was soft . . . except to the boys who came to our home. Anytime
a boy got too close to my sister or me, Toby would bark at them and let them know she was watching them; she nipped quite a few in the buttocks
who didn't heed her warning. When Toby passed, I realized I had lived in the home with Toby longer than I had lived with my sister, my only sibling.
Toby and I were very close. Finally, there's Bentley (Figure 3). My parents brought Bentley home after they became "empty nesters." My
