SUMMARY OF EXPERIENCE
RELEVANT PROJECT EXPERIENCE
Bachelor of Science, Civil Engineering, The Pennsylvania State University
Engineer-in-Training PA
Mr. Sorber is an entry level Civil Engineer specializing in Water Resources.
Working under the supervision of Mr. Leonard J. Smith II, P.E., Mr. Sorber is
responsible for preparing erosion and sediment pollution control plans,
performing hydrologic and hydraulic analyses on watersheds and
infrastructure, and designing stormwater management systems.
Computer Experience:
HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, HY-8, VTPSUHM, MicroStation/InRoads, ARCGIS
SR 3046, South Valley Parkway, Hanover Township/City of Nanticoke, Luzerne
County, PA
Acted as an integral member of an extensive team of engineers across
multiple disciplines tasked with constructing a new 3+ mile highway through
mountainous terrain. Graded multiple drainage swales, berms, access roads,
and PCSM basins using Bentley InRoads software. Exercised creativity in
placing necessary E&S controls and BMPs beyond the most typical. Exhibited
flexibility in designing various stormwater management systems across the
project.
I-476 Pennsylvania Turnpike Work Order #7 Bear Creek/Dennison Township,
Luzerne County, PA
Designed the proposed stormwater management system for the entirety of this
3 mile stretch of interstate full-depth reconstruction. Involved in the final check
and placement of E&S controls and compiling of Erosion and Sediment
Pollution Control Plans. Overall assisted the abnormally expedient turnaround
of a large project for a key client.
Bloomsburg Flood Protection, City of Bloomsburg, Columbia County, PA
Evaluated Existing and Proposed Condition hydrology of the site to be
protected using HEC-HMS. Implemented extensive historical data from rainfall
and stream gauges to create valuable visuals highlighting correlations
between rainfall and river stages and identifying peaks and lag times. Placed
E&S controls and performed field visits to verify important features.
SR 1017 Bridge Replacement over UNT to South Branch Tunkhannock Creek,
Borough of Factoryville, Wyoming County, PA
Assisted in the hydraulic modeling of the existing and proposed structures and
the writing of associated H&H Report. Independently laid out preliminary E&S
controls and BMPs including placement of compost filter sock, location of
cofferdams, and points of access. Completely prepared and compiled the
required Erosion and Sediment Pollution Control Plan and GP-11 Permit for
structure replacement over a waterway opening and submitted using
PennDOT’s JPA2 system.
SR 3014, Atherton Street, State College Borough, Centre County, PA
Performed a hydrologic and hydraulic analysis on the existing Atherton Street
corridor stormwater system and provided preliminary suggestions on drainage
improvements.
SR 0023 Bridge Design-Build, Valley Forge Road over Pickering Creek, Schuylkill
Township, Chester County, PA
Prepared the Erosion and Sediment Pollution Control Plan and compiled the
necessary GP-8 Permit for the placement of a causeway in the waterway
immediately downstream of the Pickering Reservoir Dam.
