The Reconnection Journey through the Tree Rings

Introduction to the Reconnection Journey Wheel

The Peacemaker’s message of peace, strength and righteousness is the unified
foundation of the Haudenosaunee (the people of the Longhouse). The principles of the
Great Law are symbolized by the White Pine Tree and buried under the White Pine Tree
are the weapons used for bloodshed. The significance of the tree’s four white roots
extends in the four directions to share the message of peace across the land.

The Reconnection Journey wheel is symbolically representing one of the four white roots
of peace that extends in the four directions. Its purpose is to help nourish the person to
reconnect and inspire our people to develop mental, spiritual, emotional and physical
wellness. The focus is to empower our people to pursue what they seek whether it is
balancing birth, life or death, our traditional knowledge and traditions are for the
maintenance of health and wellbeing.

The Reconnection Journey through the Tree Rings was developed by Cindy Martin from
Six Nations of the Grand River. The teaching is based on the Great Law and upholds the
traditional people to support the original instructions of the Peacemaker.

The Reconnection Journey wheel is white as the root of the Tree of Peace. The centre of
the wheel is yellow to represent the energy within the root.

The Reconnection Journey wheel is composed of three segments but one only potential
pathway to focus on for personal development. Each layer of the wheel revolves to
identify a pathway toward the knowledge they are seeking. The teachings identify areas
of three.
    • Body, mind, spirit
    • Birth, life, death
    • Past, present, future
    • 3 clans of the elements (excluding fire)
    • Water, air, land
    • Clan Mothers, Faith Keepers, Chiefs
    • Traditional Knowledge Carriers, Medicine People, Seers

Within the person, they hold their life experiences and they also hold the decisions to
make right in their life. The Reconnection Journey wheel is a tool to assist with cultural
guidance to gain a sense of empowerment and responsibility while coping with the
significance of birth, life and death. Our life journey may have experiences and choices
that burden our existence from birth and well into our life until our death. Our traditional
teachings help our people unburden, release and repent at any time in our lives. The
challenges that we experience are believed to be spiritually pre-determined and our
spiritual existence continues beyond this realm as long as we follow our teachings.
Since we do not know how long we have before we return home, we are encouraged to
live with happiness and wellness for as long as possible.
