Brief History
Jack Welde founded Smartling in 2009 to give globally-minded, technology-driven businesses a
software-as-a-service solution for boosting global customer engagement. Today, Smartling has
expanded its translation software platform to enable companies to deliver their digital content to
customers in any language or country. The Smartling platform synchronizes and accelerates the
creation, transfer, and delivery of websites, documents, and applications to help businesses build and
strengthen relationships with their global customer bases. In May 2014, the company announced a
$25 million investment round led by Iconiq Capital with participation from all prior investors, including
First Round Capital, Harmony Partners, IDG Ventures, Tenaya Capital, U.S. Venture Partners and
Venrock.
