I’ve been a freelance copywriter since 2001. I work directly for clients and on
client / personal projects for design and branding consultancies including Bostock

Telecoms & Tech
EE, Orange, T-Mobile I was a member of the Orange copywriting team from 2001 until the
purchase of EE by BT in 2015, working on everything from naming to
tone of voice, corporate and social responsibility reports to parental
guidelines, copy guides to internal presentations for senior management.
I also worked with the brand team on the transition to Everything
Everywhere, and on the launch of the EE brand
Microsoft Ventures Working with each new tranche of entrepreneurs to articulate their key
messages and sales pitches
Mass Challenge Worked with the global accelerator in spring 2016 to define their unique
proposition, and articulated this within a one-pager
iCrossing Took part in a one-day branding / brainstorming session in spring 2016,
working with Creamer+Sundt and iCrossing’s senior US / UK
management, to generate ideas for a new tone of voice and positioning
for this global digital marketing agency
Tech City UK Tone of voice, brand strategy, advertising and web copy for the new UK-
wide brand
Digital Business Tone of voice; web, email and ad copy for free online academy for
Academy entrepreneurs, set up by Tech City UK
Phish’d Tone of voice and web copy for anti phishing online security service
First Point Group Consultancy for FPG, a global recruitment company specialising in the
telecoms industry, starting with creation of their tone of voice in 2010.
Went on to write the web copy (firstpointgroup.com), including 20 or so
stories based on notes scribbled down during snatched phone interviews
with their consultants across the world. Other work includes site updates,
awards submissions and induction material.
Retail/brands
Diageo Letter inviting a handful of global tastemakers to join the Diageo Reserve
Club, Feb 2016, working with brand and influencer strategist, Katlist
Brook Taverner I write up to eight catalogues a year for this Yorkshire-based gentlemen’s
clothing retailer
Young’s Worked with Young’s pub chain to articulate a tone of voice, and
provided copy for newsletters, website and elsewhere, including the
quarterly inspiration / briefing document for pub landlords. I also ran
writing training for the young landlords, and worked one-to-one with one
member of the marketing team who wanted to develop her writing skills
so she could take over the copywriting of the newsletters
Burt’s Bees Created materials for tone of voice / language workshop in the US
(working with Creamer & Lloyd), including detailed analysis of Burt’s
Bees’ tone of voice and language as it appears online / on packaging,
and comparison with and analysis of the way some companies, such as
Howies, use language in a more meaningful, engaging and distinctive
way
Heinz Global brand bible (‘The H-Z of Heinz’), working with BrandGym,
Amsterdam

Background
I’ve been a freelance brand consultant / copywriter since 2001. Before that I was a partner in
WORK (1995-1999), a design company that created three zones in the Millennium Dome and
staged The Modern Guide to Sunglasses, a one-off exhibition held during London Fashion Week.
I’d previously worked for Blenheim Exhibitions for 6 years, writing sales and marketing materials
across the group, and running Top Drawer, the design-led gift fair.
My poem about Dylan Thomas was included in 26 Treasures, a poetry collection launched at the
V&A in September 2012, and in 2014 another poem was featured in an exhibition at the Oxford
Story Museum.

Went on to write the web copy (firstpointgroup.com), including 20 or so stories based on notes scribbled down during snatched phone interviews with their consultants across the world. Other work includes site updates, awards submissions and induction material. Retail/brands Diageo Letter inviting a handful of global tastemakers to join the Diageo Reserve Club, Feb 2016, working with brand and influencer strategist, Katlist Brook Taverner I write up to eight catalogues a year for this Yorkshire-based gentlemen’s clothing retailer Young’s Worked with Young’s pub chain to articulate a tone of voice, and provided copy for newsletters, website and elsewhere, including the quarterly inspiration / briefing document for pub landlords. I’d previously worked for Blenheim Exhibitions for 6 years, writing sales and marketing materials across the group, and running Top Drawer, the design-led gift fair. My poem about Dylan Thomas was included in 26 Treasures, a poetry collection launched at the V&A in September 2012, and in 2014 another poem was featured in an exhibition at the Oxford Story Museum.
