Stratified rocks are formed from sedimentary processes where visible layers of sediments are piled on top of each other over time. These sedimentary rocks form particle by particle in beds that make up distinguishable rock layers or strata. Stratigraphic laws help geologists understand the spatial and temporal relationships between rock layers, such as the law of superposition which states that older layers are below younger layers due to sequential deposition of sediments over time.
