2. L I G H T S O U T
• I think that this short film is very impressive in my opinion as the aim for short films are also that the audience need to
understand what is going on and know who each character is very quickly, therefore it is hard as the producers have
to make it very clear who the protagonist is and that she lives on her own in an apartment, which is made clear in the
first 10 seconds.
• The thing that stands out about the short film is that it is from the exact audience we are aiming for around 15 - 30,
also it has the same topic we are aiming for as we are planning to have 1 protagonist and 1 antagonist, the 1
antagonist has to haunt the protagonist and make it the fear of the unknown. Therefore our product can relate to this
quite accurately, such as the shot patterns are going to be similar to ours as it will start off slow like in Lights Out,
then when the scenes become more tense the camera shots will speed up therefore the length of the shots will
become shorter to give it a more tense feel and to also get the audience on the edge of their seats.
• I like this short film a lot as it makes us as the audience feel like we are isolated lie how the protagonist feels, and
they do this very well as thing like the lights flickering in the room are shown at a low angle shot to show that they are
more powerful than the protagonist therefore it feels like we are seeing it from her point of view.
3. S K Y P E M A R E
• I think that this short film is very impressive in my opinion as they follow the usual protagonist being a vulnerable
promiscuous woman, but it has the biggest twist at the end which i don't think any audience would of expected as it
ends up that they pranked the protagonist therefore there wasn't any real antagonist, but the protagonist ends up in
trouble by slipping up on a knife. I feel like this film makes the audience adapt to the main character very quickly as
we feel very on edge and tense for her situation in the film.
• This film can also relate to our production as we have the same target audience aimed around 15 - 30, also people
who are very into horror films. This horror film also ends on a cliffhanger which is what we are aiming to do as well
therefore it would be good to use a few ideas from these movies as they are both also very successful with a lot of
views and high ratings online.
• This horror makes the audience feel like we are in the protagonists position as a lot of the camera shots are eye level
such as when the protagonist is on Skype, they make it feel like the audience is on Skype with the person at the
receiving end.
• The very interesting point about this short film is the ending as it is a massive twist that no one saw coming therefore
our production may contain some elements from this film as we found that the twist at the end made it a lot more
interesting, with the ending also left on a cliffhanger which makes it very interesting as well.
